Received my Carlinkit finally yesterday. The pairing was really easy and fast. I really didn’t do much and it was working already. There has not been any issue since I paired it yesterday and I used it on the way to work and no problem at all. The connection was fast and it got connected in a few seconds. I was really worried about what everyone says, but I guess I’m lucky so far. I have not updated the firmware yet, so I probably will hold off until anything occurs unsatisfactory. I have not made a call yet, but everything else works perfectly. The unit was certified in Jan 2020, so I would assume that it was definitely version 2 as advertised. I haven’t figured out how to see the version and firmware numbers yet.

I have a 2019 Audi S5 Sportback.

I'm just concerned about call lag. I wouldn't stand it and that's the only thing preventing me from buying it. I've seen people saying that it lags on calls but I can't really understand how much.

If it's noticeable, I must assume that is bad and that will also give a bad experience to the person on the other side of the line.

As a Seat Leon (2018) with MIB2 I assume that the car's HU should be the same hardware, it should behave the same way. Could you please try a call and let me know about the lag? Also, the link where you've bought from?

Thank you.

I realized it was happening because when on a call, we'd talk over each other all the time. At first I was annoyed that the other person was being inconsiderate. It wasn't until I noticed audio lag in the GPS and podcast app that I realized it was probably audio lag on phone calls causing us to talk over each other.

I only talk on the phone in my car 2-3 times a week, but it's very important to me that those calls have zero issues. When I finally realized that's what was going on, I unplugged the carplay2air.

will try and report back. I got it from AliExpress and it says it was Carlinkit itself as the seller. I communicated with Carlinkit directly and you can also talk to AliExpress via WhatsApp.

Thank you. Waiting for your input as this seems to be directly related to the car's HU and I'll probably share the same HU internals as you.

I received an email from Carplay2Air last night, advising that the device would not work in my 2018 Subaru Outback and that they would issue a refund.

I was a little surprised by the response, because I thought they were going to send me a replacement to try. That said, assuming the refund appears, I’m happy with the result.

How did you update your Mazda firmware? I have a 2019 CX-5 as well. I Googled and searched around on how to do it a week or two ago. Instructions I found seemed to be a couple years old. Did you just go to a Mazda dealer and have them do it, or did you do it from home? If from home, can you link to the instructions you used? I should check which firmware version I have. See if I have what you list above. Just got my CX-5 in late July. So, maybe I got mine later than you and it already has that version??

I don't think you have the new firmware because it came out this year and I got my CX-5 last day of this year. I did it myself but it would be easier to have the dealer do it. I think it's North America only right now if that matters.

I did it at home with the instructions from here: https://www.mazda3revolution.com/threads/new-na-n-firmware-70-00-352b.237094/

All you need to do is put the firmware on a clean FAT32 USB drive and follow the condensed numbered instructions from one of the pages of the PDF carefully. They give a lot more detail than you need in the document.

Update: It didn't reconnect today when I started the car. I did a reboot of the infotainment and it worked. So it's improved but still has some issues.

Tested out the voice calls. yes, there is a little bit of delay. I can imagine if someone who talks fast and you might talk over each other. However, the call was manageable. I will find more time to test out the voice calls again. I would say if someone who doesn’t rely on using it for a lot of phone calls, it works great. I used it for Apples, Waze, music and Pandora. I didn’t have any problem yet. I will test it out again tomorrow on the way to work.

tested few firmware today on the CRF1100L 2020 the best one is 2019-12-13 also get my money back from "Michael" Carplay2air after a case open on Paypal

Great to hear it’s working. You should now send it back to carplay2air as they reimbursed you for it.

I'll probably wait a bit more until a reliable version comes out. Having calls lag is bad enough for me and the default infoentetainment from SEAT (or VAG group) works amazingly well for calls, music, maps and so on. I must admit that I rather like it more the CarPlay interface and I could use some 3rd party apps sometime, that's it. But for now, I'll probably connect the cable whenever I need to.

If only Apple could make a dongle for this that definitely works well...

I wanted to add to this thread I never saw.... I use the version meant for factory radios attached to an aftermarket Pioneer NEX 4000. It works quite well, but sometimes when I have my phone in my pocket it doesn't connect. I have to move the phone closer.

The other issue I have had is the phone dropping connection while wired to the adapter... but I have seen that before without the adapter installed so I blame the head unit.

Other than that.... it works quite well!

There is a slight lag, nothing major. I haven't noticed it on calls.

The phone number on the company’s web site does not work. I’ve emailed them for the last few days about performance issues but they aren’t responding. In my 2017 Honda the screen freezes or the wireless dongle stops working altogether about every 15-30 minutes. Also, the audio lag makes normal conversations very difficult. Anybody had success recently connecting with this vendor?

Email sales@carlinkit.com. They helped me.

Tried the voice call again today. The delay was almost negligible. I could have a conversation without much problem. However, it did lose connection once on the way home, but got reconnected shortly after. I don’t know if it’s the priority of WiFi, it didn’t get connected automatically and I had to push connect from MMI or select WiFi manually in order to get it connected.

I had to google to know that it was a honda bike. Everyone should tell which car or aftermarket head-unit is used. Good to know that a downgrade works.

Does anyone have a mirror for the 2020-01-22 .img? I can’t get the site to work

This morning it connected itself automatically after starting the car. It took about 20-30 seconds to see Apple Carplay finally showed up. I played music without any hiccups. How do I see what version my device is?

Hi All,

I purchased and received a CARPLAY2AIR last week - 2020 Audi SQ5 - I'm receiving the same stuck on "Connecting" issue as I've read in the thread. The only way for me to resolve the issue seems to be to forget the Bluetooth connection, and completely restart my iPhone.

After reaching out to the company, they've advised to update the device which now fixes the issue (why it wouldn't come properly updated, I don't understand) but I cannot for the life of me connect to the page to install the update and see if it actually fixes it. Has anyone had issues connecting to the "192.168.50.2" address? I've connected to CarPlay and directly to my phone vis USB, I've tried connecting everything through my computer - the web address fails to load every time.

Do you know what firmware it's on now? It may show it in the lower right corner of the "Connecting" screen (it will be in a date format).

In order for the 192.168.50.2 address to work, you have to make sure your phone is connected to the CARPLAY2AIR's WiFi network first. Make sure you look on your phone under Settings > WiFi and see if it's connected.

Thanks for the reply. I never realized the dongle connected via WIFI too. I ended up forgetting the Audi WIFI connection which allowed me to connect to the dongle and update it. We'll see if that makes it work consistently.

Any idea if that means I should never connect my phone to my car wifi/bluetooth systems if I want to use the carplay dongle?
