Thanks for the reply. I never realized the dongle connected via WIFI too. I ended up forgetting the Audi WIFI connection which allowed me to connect to the dongle and update it. We'll see if that makes it work consistently.

Any idea if that means I should never connect my phone to my car wifi/bluetooth systems if I want to use the carplay dongle?

I think it depends on the car. Some cars (maybe most?) with factory CarPlay will automatically drop the BT connection to the phone when the phone connects to CarPlay. Maybe look to see if your car does that too, and if not, experiment with manually disconnecting it to see if it makes any difference.

Edit: Rereading I see you mentioned that your Audi has a WiFi connection to your phone. Is that for like a hotspot? If so, I don't think you can use that when connected via Wireless Carplay, as Wireless Carplay is a completely WiFi-based connection (and you can't connect to two WiFi networks at the same time).

I found the carplay2air to be more reliable if I had my car and phone forget each other Bluetooth wise. In fact, now that I've got back to wired Carplay, I still haven't sync them back by Bluetooth. I was always annoyed in the past how it would connect to Bluetooth first, even if I had my phone plugged in for Carplay. Remove Bluetooth from the equation, and I'm having a better Carplay experience overall.

How did you update your Mazda firmware? I have a 2019 CX-5 as well. I Googled and searched around on how to do it a week or two ago. Instructions I found seemed to be a couple years old. Did you just go to a Mazda dealer and have them do it, or did you do it from home? If from home, can you link to the instructions you used? I should check which firmware version I have. See if I have what you list above. Just got my CX-5 in late July. So, maybe I got mine later than you and it already has that version??

Up until the 22nd we were getting almost daily software updates. I am guessing the engineers are in China. I hope the development team are ok and not caught up in the virus issue.

If they are I wish them well.

Hi all,

Thanks to various posts here, I was able to 'repair' my Carplay2Air module. :)

I received the device last Wednesday (delivery in 5 days, so pretty fast). Connected my car (Hyundai Kona EV, 2019 model) to my iPhone SE and in worked fine immediately - but if you start using it, might be good to make sure your car 'forgets' your phone and your phone 'forgets' your car. I didn't do this, so you get lots of connection requests that are confusing.

Anyway, I immediately upgraded to the latest firmware by browsing on my phone to http://192.168.50.2 - upgrade was successful, but from then on the device wouldn't connect properly. Yes, it connected fine to my phone, I also could access 192.168.50.2, but the screen in my car was hanging at 'connecting...'. Make the device forget my phone and my phone forget the device and starting from scratch didn't make a difference. Plugging out/in of the Carplay2Air didn't make a difference. Power cycling the phone didn't make a difference.

This morning, I did:
  1. format a 16GB USB stick to FAT32
  2. browsed to http://112.74.112.110/download/2020-01-20 (one-but-last at this moment) and downloaded the two '.img' files to the USB stick
  3. Plugged the USB stick into the Carplay2Air module's USB port
  4. Plugged the USB connected of the Carplay2Air module in a regular USB charger (not a laptop or car connection, just a charger)
  5. Waited for a few minutes - did the laundry while waiting, not sure if that makes a difference in the result ;)
  6. Plugged the Carplay2Air in the USB port of my car - and it immediately worked fine again. Only the steering wheel button for Siri commands misbehaved a bit - I got the Siri sound effect, but it didn't respond to my commands.
  7. On my phone I browsed to http://192.168.50.2 and decided to upgrade to the latest firmware - even though that one gave me the problem initially.
  8. ... but after a minute or so, the Carplay2Air device rebooted and connected fine again. And even the Siri steering wheel button behaved normally again. :)
I still need to test a bit more to see if the device works reliably, but above manual could help others stuck in a similar situation.

Un-pair it from the head unit and delete the Bluetooth pairing on your phone. Then re-pair and see if that does the trick.

There is. It’s the 10th Feb today. Look inside that and you will see an update for today. It’s a U2W image file. I believe the OTA update comes a little later

Careful, it's just some new software for "Hicar"!
I do not think this is the right software for the "normal" Carplay2Air adapter.

Look inside that folder and you will find the normal update image. Obviously at your risk.

I’ve used previous versions as mine has never worked, mines a CarLinkIt, so don’t have option of OTA

Unless its in the root of the folder i wont touch it.
Not sure what difference that makes, the image name is the same as it’s always been, and it’s been in that folder before, but ok.

Size of today's update file is increased by 50%
Hope it brings some significant changes
Is it out OTA yet or just as an image? Have you tried it? How do you find the log for what’s changed?

Wonder why so big compared, seems strange. I can’t test yet be a few days, but I’m not hopeful as mines never worked.

Downloaded today's update img file (size increased by 50%).

But unable to perform usb update on my Carplay2air. (All January updates usb update was working)

How are you unable to update? What happened? How do you know it hasn’t worked? Mine is CarLinkIt dongle, I’ve used img from these links before are CarLinkIt and CarPlay2Air same firmware, and same links?

With today update file, in USB update method I don't see the Blue and Red light. So I think USB update method for today's update doesn't work.

I tried the typical OTA update process earlier today, but it tells me I already have the latest version from 1-22. Hopefully they release it as OTA sometime soon.

Another directory appeared this morning but nothing in the root other than a couple of folders

Now there are 3 .img files in the today folder. 1 in the Hicar and 2 in the tmp folder as dated today 11 February.
I have the problem i cant reactivate my carplay2air adapter. Tried repairing and all the steps they are wrote here nothing. Wired is all ok. The adapter seems to working but i cant establish a wireless connection. Any other tips from the Professional here?
