First of all, exactly which file are you trying to flash? What folder did you get it from on the web site? Even though there are seemingly-compatible U2W_Update.img files within the hicar subfolders in various date folders, those will not flash to our adapters.

So assuming you have a valid file, the next thing to check is your USB flash drive. It must be formatted FAT32 (not HFS, ExFat, APFS, NTFS, etc.). You should try reformatting it just in case, and then make sure that the U2W_Update.img file is the only thing on it, no folders or any other files.

It will not take anywhere close to 10 minutes to flash. If you haven't seen the blue+red light within 2 minutes then it didn't work.

Try another flash drive if you can't get the one you're using to work.

BTW I'm quite sure that the account and password are unique, because Carlinkit said they needed me to upload my log file in order to generate them. Both the Account# and password were long random strings, so I really doubt it's the same for everyone.

I had good luck getting responses from Carlinkit's amazon support. Their hours of operation occur during our overnight hours. So usually I would email them during the day and then wake up the next morning with a reply.
I tried to flash the file the in 2020-02-26 folder root directory. http://112.74.112.110/download/2020-02-26/

I used a fat32 flash drive, and it was the ONLY file on the drive. Will try another one.

I contacted or emailed carplay2air but no response. I will try carlinkit amazon next.

I updated mine to 26/02/2020 and so far so good. Seems to load and connect to iPhone quicker. I haven’t had the music stuttering yet like I had before (but only tested with a 10 min drive) and I had an issue before with pixelation on every screen which hopefully is fixed now.

GPS using carlinkit is 100% using phone and not car GPS like native wired would do. Hopefully theycan integrate and fix that and would be perfect!

If no luck with another flash drive then I would try just flashing the 2020-01-22 or 2020-02-17 firmware for the purposes of getting it activated. I myself am still on 2020-02-17.

It’s most likely the flash drive. Others have reported having to try several before finding one that works. Smaller drives have worked better than larger ones. USB2 better than USB3.

I was able to get my carplay2air unit to be recognized by my infotainment system today after finally updating from Ford Sync 3 v 2.2 to 3.4, but I can’t get further than the initial connection screen (which starts to warp as shown below after a few seconds). Any ideas, anyone?

EDIT: Well, never mind. I updated the adapter to the 2020-02-26 image, "forgot" the SYNC bluetooth connection on my phone, and then the CarPlay screen popped right up almost instantly. Not sure if it was an issue with old firmware, or my bluetooth connection to SYNC interfering with the wireless CarPlay bluetooth/wifi hand-off, or both, but it works now. Have a road trip this weekend, so I'll see what the battery impact of running Waze for 4-5 hours is.

I don't know much about Uconnect, but is your phone connected to it via bluetooth? If so, you might have to forget the connection on your phone before the adapter will connect properly. I was having a similar issue on Ford SYNC - see my post right above yours.

Hey guys! So i have been reading this thread for the past few days and got me all excited. I have ordered carplay2air from their official website and looks to be delivered to me on Monday, Looking so much forward.

I think it's simple. Use it as is if it works fine. Update to the latest version if there's any problem or major upgrade is offered.

Hey yeah sure not connected to car Bluetooth. I almost tried everything in this thread except changing the mode which I didn’t find anyway to do that

Just done the 26th update via USB. Boots up quickly, not tested the other functions yet.

I use my iPhone USB power adapter. You should not use the USB from the car.
By the way: USB has 5V, and not 12V

Concur that I'm seeing a bit quicker connection with the 2020-02-26 firmware.

GPS continues to struggle and lag. It's a lot better when I set my phone on the dash (or even in the cupholder), but it's still not as smooth as it should be. So I wonder if there is some truth to the CarPlay WiFi connection causing some kind of interference with the phone's GPS signal.

I hear occasional little audio glitches, but not frequently and they only last a split second.

The only other bug I've noticed is that when asking Siri to play music, her response gets cut off. Like for example if I press my car's voice button (which triggers Siri when in Carplay mode) and say "Play Rubber Soul by the Beatles" she'll respond with something like "Got it! Now playing Rubber Soul by The Beat..."

Is anyone else seeing that issue? I need to do some more testing but so far I'm seeing that happen consistently every time.

Occasionally the screen will go black and the only way that I have found to fix this is to disable wifi on my phone then enable it again. This requires it to reconnect again. Anyone have an easier solution?

Does anyone notice any delay during phone calls? BTW I'm using the Carplay2air.

Only get the lag occasionally and noticed it seems like it’s the cell you are connected to. Had the same with straight Bluetooth to the car.

I have one journey where it comes in for just part of the journey

The last OTA update was on 2020-01-22, and you can install the file from 2020-02-29 via USB. What now? Are there no more OTA updates?

Maybe they are having issues with their OTA update server, just as there have been issues with their activation server. Everything worked in late January prior to Chinese New Year. Then, during the holiday the Corona virus thing exploded.

Just a wild guess.

I thought these were possibly beta versions not released yet- is that incorrect? If it is, I am going to flash.

Manual usb update 29-02-2020

7882bb4f493118d319d6cdb62e2bbb21.jpg

In the root Folder there is a file „Auto_Box_Update.img“. The file „U2W_Update.img“ isn‘t there anymore (01.03.2020). Can i update only with auto box file over usb? Or must be U2W img file also in the usb stick?
Seems the file in the dated folder 29.02.20 is gone...

Auto_Box_Update.img files are for older adapters that are on the previous firmware scheme. Once you're on v2, you need to use the U2W_Update.img files.

You're right that Carlinkit removed the U2W_Update.img for 2020-02-29. I didn't download it but I did see that it was there as of yesterday. I have to assume they pulled it because it caused some sort of problem. So probably a good thing that you didn't flash it. If you already have the previous update installed (either 2020-01-22 or 2020-02-17) then it's probably best to just wait for them to post another U2W_Update.img file.
