Hi All,

This is my first post and I'm from the Philippines. I have been lurking around this thread since December 2019, and
I received my Carlinkit dongle about two weeks ago, February 1st to be exact.

I have a 2019 Chevrolet Trailblazer LT with 7" Mylink with built-IN Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The headunit seems to be the same as the ones called Intellilink in some European countries based on the home screen.

- Mylink version

Anyways, Out of the box, it has worked without flaw except for the slight lag when tapping next or back button for audio, I use Spotify most of the time, however, this is a non-issue for me. Have not updated to the "latest" firmware as indicated when connecting to "192.168.50.2" which indicates version 2020.01.22.2233 as the latest as seen below.

My question is, how do I know the current installed version on my Carlinkit Dongle?

In addition, just an input regarding why the dongle works on one car and won't on another with the same brand and model as the other and even having the same year model.
This is may be due to the headunit models/versions not being the same. Like for example, for my current vehicle, the LT variant here in the PH comes with the 7" Mylink sytem [BYOM 2.0 i0B], while the same year and variant sold in Thailand comes wth the 8" Mylink [BY0M 2.5 i06 ]. My previous car which was a 2011 Chevy Cruze came with a monochrome 2 liner radio display, while the same variant released in the US came with the 4 liner display.

BTW, there is third dongle in the market which is the same as Carlinkit and CarPlay2Air.
It is called re-STREAM C2A. [note : I am in no way connected or affiliated with re-STREAM]

Be safe everyone.

If it is an Intellilink Vauxhall version doesn’t work unfortunately.

Can you go into your settings and about and tell me versions etc please? Never had my CarLinkIt version to work ever.

Thanks

Hey all, been considering a CPlay2Air for quite some time and also been trying to figure out if the Carlinkit on Amazon is the same thing. I read the first 5-6 pages of this thread and jumped to the end. It seems we still aren't sure if they are the same thing and it seems like the bugs, like reverse killing it before full boot are still there? Am I correct? I have a Maserati Ghibli that is CP equipped. The system is UConnect. I love the idea of wireless CP, but I think the reverse issue and a 20 second boot to connect on every start will bug the crap out of me. The motivation for wanting the Carlinkit over the other is Amazon, peace of mind return.

Let me know your thoughts if you could.

Yeah this thread badly needs a wiki. Too large to sift through.

Carplay2Air and Carlinkit are exactly the same thing. They use the exact same firmware files and behave exactly the same way. Carplay2Air relabels and resells the Carlinkit under their own brand, and they provide some end-user support. But honestly (and this is just my opinion) you're better off buying it directly from Carlinkit as they're the ones who actually make the product, and I personally have had good responsiveness from their support (with the caveat that they are in China, so support hours don't align very well with the USA and their English is limited).

Carplay2Air may have a better return policy--I don't know about that aspect. But I think the lowest-risk is to buy a Carlinkit from Amazon when it's available with Prime shipping. That way your return is done directly through Amazon with little-to-no hassle. You'll find a bunch of reports in this thread of people who bought via other methods (including CarPlay2Air) having to pay for return shipping and then paying a restocking fee.

Performance of these really seems to depend a lot on your car model, so you may want to state what kind of car you want to use it on to see if others have already tested it on that or a similar vehicle I see you already stated it's for a Maserati. Hopefully someone else has tested it, or other UConnect-based models. Keep in mind you can search just this thread for those keywords to see if anyone else has mentioned it. Click the magnifying glass at the top and in the dropdown choose "This thread".

The delay upon starting has been improved in recent firmware releases. I haven't counted but my sense is that it's usually between 10-15 seconds for me. But again, that may vary on your car's headunit. I don't know about any reverse bug--has not been an issue for my Ford.

Thank you sir, I appreciate you weighing in. I have a 2017 Maserati Ghibli that is CarPlay enabled from factory. The system is the UConnect System (same as Chrysler/Jeep, etc.). I will try a Carlinkit on Amazon. They have several options to choose from which is confusing, some say they are for an Android based head unit. I have no idea if UConnect is Android based. If someone wants to take my lazy a$$ to school and shoot me a link to the Carlinkit that is for me, I would feel better before ordering.

EDIT - I found the one I need on Amazon with Prime. Just would like to here from some Chrysler car owners experience. I'll order it tomorrow with next day delivery if I can get a few people to weigh in on Uconnect experiences.

Yeah Carlinkit did not do a good job at all of differentiating between these two very different products. Sadly, I'm sure a bunch of people ordered the wrong thing because the android version is much cheaper.

What you want to look for is the word "Activator" in the product listing. And in the description it should state that it is meant for cars with factory (wired) CarPlay. All of the other listings are for a different device meant for people who mount an android tablet in their cars and then use that adapter to get wired/wireless carplay onto the android tablet screen (which I assume is not what you want).

Edit: Here is the one you want (has Prime shipping available as of this moment): https://www.amazon.com/Carlinkit-Wireless-Activator-Steering-Original/dp/B082N1NSM1/ Note that you can "save" $40 by choosing the option to get it sent from China, but the caveats are that you'll have to wait a month to get it and returning it would involve a significant cost.

Thank you. I think I was editing my post as you were posting yours. I did find this as well and have the US version in my cart pending some feedback here on Chrysler car experiences or better, Maserati. I’m buying the US offering. I don’t want to wait, deal with returns etc. If it doesn’t work perfectly, it’s going back.

Activity on this thread seems to be waning a bit at the moment... I guess because there haven't been any new FW for a couple days. Try searching the thread for Chrysler or Uconnect and see if any previous posts have reports on them.

Will do.

Does anyone think there is any chance that Apple will develop a dongle for wireless CarPlay? That’s what we really need. They could do it so easily.

I think they would only if the rumors are true about them wanting to make iPhones with no ports. For what it's worth I have heard nothing since the flurry of speculation late last year about them planning to remove the data port. Doesn't mean they won't do it, but I also think the longer we go without subsequent leaks about it makes it more and more unlikely.

I got my cplay2air two days ago. I have a gmc Denali 2018. I have a iphone 10.
Unit works only if I plug it in each time....not bad but would like it to be better. I read above the complicated wiring fix.
Not real tech here but can't figure out how to update...get message can not connect to server...? If someone could step by step this I would appreciate.

I have tried to chat twice on the web site...no answer
Phone number is disconnected
sent a response on web site...unanswered
sent an email explaining everything yesterday so I have a written record

I am not paying any shipping or restocking.

It is their job to give me what I bought...Working unit.....They can send me one that works or come pick this one up and refund. That's it period.
I will challenge my visa charge .
I have run into this kind of thing before and won.

My adapter has been today disabled :(
I went to 192.168.50.2 to check for OTA update, then an activation screen appeared on the website.
After that also my car screen went to activation screen with QR code.

Very strange, especially as my dongle was running fine the last three months.

Update: Carlinkit support was able to solve my problem in no time.

got the same email too - more incentive to give this product another go, after returning my original purchase due to faulty connection/activation issues. Hopefully the last few months have given enough time for more bugs to be ironed out.

It's weird. My Carlinkit will connect automatically like a champ 5-10 times in a row, and then it will stop doing so almost entirely.

I've found that once that happens I need to do one of two things:

1. Turn both WiFi and Bluetooth radios off on my iPhone, then turn them both back on. If I do that, then I can hit the reconnect button on my Car's screen and it will work. But it only works once. The next time I turn the car off and get back in, I'm back to the same situation.
2. Reboot the phone. This is a better fix as it allows the Carlinkit to connect consistently each time I get in the car... but only for another 5-10 times before the whole cycle repeats itself.

Unplugging the carlinkit adapter itself and plugging it back in does not solve the problem. So that makes me think it's an iOS issue. But haven't read about people with true wireless CarPlay having this problem.

Anyone else see this issue?

I'm tempted, but $119 is $119 and if it doesn't work close to seamlessly or is sporadic, I won't have the patience or use it.

Yeah I mean this is by no means a finished, polished product. I said this earlier in the thread but if you're not an "early adopter" type personality you'd best wait for this device to mature or for other competitors to enter the market. Carlinkit hasn't posted any new firmware updates in the past 10 days or so--not sure what that means. Possible they never intended for end users to flash files downloaded from that site. So maybe they're deploying them to beta testers via a different method now. Or maybe they're just busy squashing bugs internally and won't release an update until they're confident it's been fully tested. Or maybe they're having staffing/monetary issues due to the Coronavirus. I have no idea so don't take anything in my post seriously... just spitballing.

I do think it's interesting that participation in this thread has fallen way off. I guess maybe partly due to lack of new firmware, and also people are finding more important things to spend their time on right now in this time of world crisis.

Anyway, I'm still enjoying my Carlinkit. It's annoying when it stops connecting, but a quick phone reboot solves it for a while. GPS, phone calls, music and texting work pretty much 100% now.

Yeah, the participation has me concerned that people gave up or the excitement of the functionality has wained. I actually do enjoy messing with early technology, betas and such. For me, I literally got my car a month ago. It's the first car I have had that has built in Apple CarPlay and I have wanted it for years. Seems every new car I got since if came out was one model year shy of having it. SO, I want to enjoy it even if I have to plug in. I don't want to get in my car for my 10 minutes drive home and spend it rebooting my phone, and I will, because I am OCD lol!

Anyone successfully get this to connect on a current generation GM MyLink 8” screen? I had this working perfectly in my MK7 VW GTI. I simply cannot get it to connect initially via BT on either my 2020 Malibu or my wife’s 2019 Equinox. Both with the same head unit. Frustrating.
