Hello all, I’ve just received my unit and it’s running the latest ota update 22/1/2020. Noticed almost immediately that my Audi A4 2017 displays a black screen if I enter reverse before the unit fully boots. Reading back though the thread, Mikejd1 reports that this issue was fixed for the Jeep back in the 30/12/19 update.
Question is, are the March updates worth going to for Audi owners? Any other Audi owners out there seen the “reverse” issue?

Given my experience with carplay i'd say you probably want your phone to be charging when running GPS and other carplay related stuff anyway. Which, unless you have an induction charger in your car means plugging the thing in...

Actually I have a CD slot mount that wirelessly charges my iPhone when I place it there. No need to plug the phone in.

For my use case, it's perfect.

My normal car trips range from 10-30 minutes, and I'm not usually utilizing navigation (i.e. my short commute, running errands around town, etc). For this, wireless CarPlay is great because I can easily navigate my music collection, see and respond to texts, etc. without having to dig out my phone and plug it in.

For long trips where I'll be actively using GPS (which for me is not that often) I'll plug in. I would be doing that anyway even if I didn't have the Carlinkit.

Another factor is what phone you have. I have an 11 Pro and even though the battery life takes a hit when I use wireless CarPlay, it's not enough to matter. Ditto for folks with an external battery case.

Try going back to 2020-03-04 (via USB) and see if you can reproduce your finding that there was no audio distortion with that FW. One problem with these rapid-fire firmware releases is we hardly have time to put each one through any kind of thorough testing.

2018 Sierra So I flashed it/down graded it back to 3-4-2020 firmware via USB method before my drive home from work. I can confirm no more shuttering audio after a 45 minute drive but touch screen is a little buggy gets stuck at times then responds a few seconds later.

I don't know if it's using my car's GPS, or if it just improved its ability to use the phone's GPS signal. Not sure how to determine that. But I'm very happy with the improvement nevertheless.

The car's and phone's GPS are independent of each other.

This is interesting. It’s almost as if they’ve abandoned OTA with release notes. The average person doesn’t know to go to the index download site and make these updates. Unless truly these are “non official” updates. Not sure what’s going on.

If the update server in China is down for even longer, why does the carplay2air website not mention the possibility of usb-updates? Don't they want that? Very few users know about this possibility of updating. There is no OTA update but the software developers are still working hard.

The Carlinkit team sent me this email yesterday in response to connection issues which indicates the latest official firmware is 2020-01-22

Thanks for the reply and picture, yes, currently the 2020.1.22.2233 is the latest version. For your problem, we need you to upload the log to us first. You can upload the log via the menu in 192.168.50.2 page. And our tech will received your errors after you uploaded it. Then the tech will check the problem and try to update new firmware to resolve the problem later. Thanks a lot!

The car's and phone's GPS are independent of each other.

We know that. Apple requires official-spec Wireless CarPlay to use the car's GPS signal. Thusfar, the Carlinkit adapter was not doing this. It was using the phone's GPS signal (and poorly--the phone would have to be sitting out on the dash to get a semi-smooth position on the CarPlay interface.). Something changed with one of the recent versions in which GPS signal is reporting regularly even with my phone in my back pocket. Would be great if others here who were experiencing choppy GPS signal before could report back whether any of these newer versions made a difference for them. It's possible that the behavior is independent for each vehicle make.

I had similar issues with my Audi Q7 2017. I was not able to get back into Carplay after entering reverse gear and viewing the reversing camera. At first I suspected that there was some bug in the Wireless Carplay adapter, but it turned out to be a bug in the Audi MMI software.

I got a free software update of the MMI system at my dealer which fixed the issue (upgraded from version 0917 to 1329). The dealer found a TSB relating to this. I don't know if it was this one (just did a quick search), but it looks similar: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10138327-9999.pdf
(The TSB number can be different depending on which country you live in etc)

I've been running the 2020-02-29 version and it has been working really well with my Q7. I updated to 2020-03-06 today. I've only tested it for a couple of minutes so far and it might have a little less delay when changing songs.

Thank you for this information.

They put me to activate PayPal's Return Shipping and then to send the package to that address. I've talked with them about my concern about the return address being fake and this they answered to me :

Thank you for your reply.

I understand that have been asked to return an item to an address that you suspect are a fake address.

In order to be legible for a refund, you would need to return the item to the address that you have been given by PayPal.
This address is provided by seller as an address they can receive return goods to.

If seller have provided a fake address, or refuse to receive the item, that would be seen as sellers problem.

I will advice that you return the item to the address provided by PayPal, and ensure that you use a tracking number so PayPal can follow the package.

Furthermore I will advice that you get a receipt from the shipping company, showing the address that you have shipped your item to, as a proof of shipment.

With a tracking number and a proof of shipment showing the address you sent the item too, you have done everything correct.

Thanks for that. I'm still waiting for paypal to reply. In the meantime I've just had a Facebook message from carplay2air stating I have to return the item at my cost and they'll deduct $25 from my refund for restocking fee! That's after they've mis sold the adapter! I've forwarded it to paypal.

But restocking fee and return costs are part of their terms and conditions. I am afraid, that you have to pay it ...

To avoid these problems itˋs better to buy for a small amount more with amazon prime.
I couldn't find Carplay2air on amazon! The carlinkit may be the same adapter but the carplay2air quoted it workee with vauxhall 2016 on so I went for that one. Hopefully paypal will sort it out.

Yeh they are the same, I’ve got CarLinkIt, but CarPlay2Air seems exact same and gets same updates.

CarPlay2Air insist different products, I’ve messaged loads. It definitely doesn’t work on Vauxhall though and never has since I got it since Sep ‘19.

I’ve messaged again and said it doesn’t work, they just said it should, and wait. Then said doesn’t work bizarrely on Insignia for some reason, although it’s a Vauxhall?!?

Hi All,

This is my first post and I'm from the Philippines. I have been lurking around this thread since December 2019, and
I received my Carlinkit dongle about two weeks ago, February 1st to be exact.

I have a 2019 Chevrolet Trailblazer LT with 7" Mylink with built-IN Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The headunit seems to be the same as the ones called Intellilink in some European countries based on the home screen.

- 7" Mylink with built-in Carplay/AA [BYOM 2.0 i0B] [aka Intellilink?]

- Mylink version

Anyways, Out of the box, it has worked without flaw except for the slight lag when tapping next or back button for audio, I use Spotify most of the time, however, this is a non-issue for me. Have not updated to the "latest" firmware as indicated when connecting to "192.168.50.2" which indicates version 2020.01.22.2233 as the latest as seen below.

My question is, how do I know the current installed version on my Carlinkit Dongle?

In addition, just an input regarding why the dongle works on one car and won't on another with the same brand and model as the other and even having the same year model.
This is may be due to the headunit models/versions not being the same. Like for example, for my current vehicle, the LT variant here in the PH comes with the 7" Mylink sytem [BYOM 2.0 i0B], while the same year and variant sold in Thailand comes wth the 8" Mylink [BY0M 2.5 i06 ]. My previous car which was a 2011 Chevy Cruze came with a monochrome 2 liner radio display, while the same variant released in the US came with the 4 liner display.

BTW, there is third dongle in the market which is the same as Carlinkit and CarPlay2Air.
It is called re-STREAM C2A. [note : I am in no way connected or affiliated with re-STREAM]

Be safe everyone.

Cheers!

hey guys- 2 questions

1. is it possible to do wirless android wit carplay2air adapter? Samsung S10e.
2. how do i clear my phone from the dongle? i want to sell it

Hey all, been considering a CPlay2Air for quite some time and also been trying to figure out if the Carlinkit on Amazon is the same thing. I read the first 5-6 pages of this thread and jumped to the end. It seems we still aren't sure if they are the same thing and it seems like the bugs, like reverse killing it before full boot are still there? Am I correct? I have a Maserati Ghibli that is CP equipped. The system is UConnect. I love the idea of wireless CP, but I think the reverse issue and a 20 second boot to connect on every start will bug the crap out of me. The motivation for wanting the Carlinkit over the other is Amazon, peace of mind return.

Let me know your thoughts if you could.
