I ordered a CPlay2air unit last week and received it today. I tried it on 2 cars, both load up the CarPlay screen and have a search button to find a phone. Selecting the search button it never finds my iPhone and on my iPhone I never see the device. I assume you should at least see it on one device. I upgraded the firmware to 3/06 version via the USB. I've sent them email, but anybody have any suggestions?

I made sure the profiles of my phone and car were deleted, before starting.

Ok, update on my issue. Used a wifi/bluetooth scanner and determined the device is not sending out any signals. Went back and forth with carplay2air support. Needed to send a video. They now want me to return the device to China. Their website says their office is in Delaware, but that must be a shell front, looking up the address now, it's a UPS store. I would have never ordered from them if I knew I was dealing with China, rather would have gone the Amazon route, to make returns easy. Lesson learned.

Dongle is now in my car and working well.

Something is different because now my steering wheel controls now work perfectly.

I strongly suspect that's firmware related--maybe your newest adapter came with newer/unreleased (at least on their site/OTA) firmware.

Its running the most up to date OTA which AFAIR was 22 Jan.

It's definitely not as I have a V1 dongle on the same latest OTA firmware and the buttons dont work. I did some diagnosis with D3ggy and confirmed the newer dongle is definitely different somehow.

From the tests we did in my volvo, the newer dongle seems that every function is 100% even the music in the dash...

I have 4 dongles, 3 v1 and 1 v2, so plenty of scope for testing. (All on various firmwares)

I should add....there is no phone call delay......at all, but the slight lag when skipping tracks still exists.

Thanks for this. Interesting for sure. From the pics, it looks like the new one is actually bigger than the old?

I’ve ordered mine today for the same reason after talking to Alan. As we both have Volvos having the button working and the dash display showing will be brilliant.

You forgot to mention that Alan

Update, you did in a later post

Hmm, unsure how to account for that, if as you show it's using the same firmware as the original dongle. That implies that the actual hardware is identical. Furthermore, Carlinkit stated on their amazon page that "it has the exact same components inside". I wonder if you were to reach out to their support and ask about the discrepancy in operation in your vehicle if they'd be able to offer any explanation for that.

Are you going to attempt to flash it via USB to one of the newer firmwares?

Not on this dongle. At the minute it is working 100% so wont risk it until an official OTA.

I'll try it on the others though.....

Hi, sorry , I don't speak a good English.I have just installed it in my Mercedes SLC. I tested it whith deezer so when the track arrived about at 1.25 minutes , the device disconnects. I have try to reset my Iphone11 and the setting's car. I have also update car2play and when it arrived to 100% display a error code 504. I need help.

I ordered the new one from Amazon yesterday. Today I received this question from Carlinkit:
Hi Joseph:

Thank you for shopping with us. Amazon seller Carlinke requires additional information to complete your order.
Message from seller Carlinke:

Hello,
Thank you for your interest in our wireless carplay dongle in advance.
Please reply to this email as soon as possible so that we can arrange delivery as soon as possible.
I need to confirm the information with you before shipping.
What is your car model and car manufacture year?
Does your original car have a built-in factory wired apple carplay?
Looking forward to reply, I can arrange delivery as soon as possible.

Interesting they are asking before they ship. Probably a good thing for them to do so to avoid returns and heartburn. I was impressed by the question.

For anyone curious, the older-style Carlinkit is using 5GHz--I used InSSIDer on my laptop today to monitor the signal. It's 802.11n though, not ac. But 300Mbps should be plenty for Wireless CarPlay.

I'm pretty sure 5GHz is an Apple requirement for wireless CarPlay, well it is according to the Developer documentation.

I thought the same thing but apparently not. They recommend 5GHz but do not require it. Check out this PDF for details (it's a long list of presentation slides, so you have slog through a bunch of pages to find the pertinent info. You could just search it for 2.4 GHz to save time)

They asked me the same questions when I ordered mine on Jan 10th.

Looks like the CarPlay2Air will be delivered tomorrow. This is the one from China that took forever to get here. PayPal refunded me, but I’m sure the merchant will loop back and reverse the refund once they prove it was delivered. Maybe not?

Anyway, since the “new “ one is shipping today, if anyone wants a good deal on the CarPlay2Air, PM me.

Is that the old model or the new hardware? If its the old one wouldn’t you be better off cancelling and re-ordering the updated version?

Long story. It's a new CarPlay2Air, not the Carlinkit "new" one, which remains to be seen if there is anything new to it besides the case and cable. I have that coming, this is why I am offering up the CP2Air, it should have the latest software/OS on it.

I don't know how to PM on this site, but what are you wanting for your extra unit?

Ha, I don't think there is that functionality, sorry about that. I paid $119 and it's new. You can't get one cheaper shipped in the U.S. That said, the same Carlinkit's on Amazon Prime are going for $139 but not expected to be delivered for a few weeks. I'm thinking $125 including shipping in the US. This will get me my money back and get you one quick. Maybe my thinking is way off? Make me an offer.

It was delivered today. When I get home I am going to plug it in and test it out.

Curious how it is working and still wondering whether there is actually a difference in hardware in the "new" one. Did you get a chance to test the others?

I ask because the CarPlay2Air arrived and the "new" one hasn't shipped, so I can cancel it still if there really is no difference besides the case, lights and cable.

I can’t comment on whether the hardware is different (But it must be due to the addition of a USB-C port)

it’s been working 100% reliable for me so far. I can definitely confirm that the steering wheel buttons for answering the phone work perfect on the new dongle, but do not on the old dongle with the same date firmware.

Take from that what you will, but I have no regrets in my purchase of the new one.

Without pulling them apart (which obviously I will not do) I can’t see how the old internals would fit in the new internals.

It is of my opinion it IS new hardware, but using similar ICs that allow the firmware to be compatible.

It happens in every day life.....Windows or Ubuntu certainly doesn’t require the exact same hardware for each install.

Probably not helping myself here, but I’m happy to sell my old V1 dongles in UK if anyone is interested. I won’t be offering support, but I can verify they work by video before shipping :)

after reading your thoughts I’m really regretting not going for the dhl option. Mine is still in a warehouse in China somewhere waiting to get on a plane probably. Have you tried it in your seat ibiza ?
