Somewhere back in this 93 page thread, there were mentions of a mysterious "Mike" at Carlinkit or CPlay2 Air tech support, (I can't remember which). In one of his commuincations I thought he indicated that the reason there was no f/w newer than the 1.22 was because of the COVD-19 pandemic's effects in China. That, of ocurse doesn't jibe with the 3.xx versions being released. I wonder if the pandemic is also affecting f/w development.

Hey anyone one with any version of firmware inserted their Carlinkit/C2playair into their computer and see if the directory structure/firmware is accessible? Just curious. Please do not do if it makes your nervous.

Did anyone ever receive release notes or change log? For now as noted a few of think 3.4 is the best firmware at least for our setups and that is posted in this forum.

Windows just sees them as a MTP USB Device / Apple Mobile Device USB Composite Device.
Which is exactly how it is supposed to function according to the developer diagrams for CarPlay.

It would seem that even though they are not MFI certified, they do follow at least some of the developer documentation to the letter.

It's not a new product per se. Just a new casing and switching away from hardwired cabling to replaceable cabling. The same hardware is inside.
I didn't realize this was confirmed. I probably shouldn't be stock piling these USBC's lol. Another reason why we need a new thread with a header with everything we know. This one is too long and things get lost.

I realized it this afternoon and posted it on the previous page. But it got lost in the HiCar discussion.

Reminder

I think you also missed where I confirmed the audio cut-off is in 3.18 still.

You have GPS built-in. It's part of the Onstar module.... unless you managed to get one that came from the factory without Onstar pre-installed.

GPS might be built-In as you say.
But, we don't have OnStar or any of it's counterpart here in the PH. hehe

Cheers!

LOL! nope, you don't! In which case, if you don't see any kind of compass indicator somewhere on your dash or mirror, you don't have GPS installed.

For those who needed to contact Carlinkit in the past for UserName and PassWord for activation purposes, can you please try logging on to http://112.74.112.110/ using those credentials provided and see what happens?

I just tried the ones I was sent back in late February when I finally got mine activated--doesn't work (says "Login failed!"). That was a good idea though--worth a try!

FYI (Carlinkit), notice the use of “official”, their words not mine:

By the way, the firmware that you mentioned 1.22 and 3.18. We need to inform you that the 1.22 is the available latest firmware for online updates, the 3.18 firmware is a beta version, and it is not available for online updating yet. Currently, if you received the 1.22 version, you are not able to update to 3.18 version yet, and if you received 3.18 version, you are also not allowed to downgrade to 1.22 version.

If you 1.22 version now, You will need to wait for the official firmware updates online then you can update it to the latest firmwares, wish you can understand, thanks a lot!

So that's a little nuts. I paid for a production unit (not from them but from their cloner CarPlay2Air) and it arrives with BETA software and it can not be flashed to the production version+ there have been no available updates for months?
Oh and the version of software on it does not allow you to play music from your phone.
I guess these are the risks one must understand they take with a product like this. It's good that all we seem to be risking is our money.

Agreed, it's par for the course I guess in terms of our experience dealing with them and questions. I also find it laughable that some folks on this thread speak with conviction about what the company is doing or not doing and what is official and not official. You are spot on, we assumed all the risk, dealing with a Chinese company that hacks Apple code. It's all good, I don't know what the right answer is with regard to firmware or what is wrong, what is official or what is beta. No release notes, etc.

It is what it is. I am happy with the product, but I do get the feeling when Apple releases an iOS update and it won't work, we may be out in the cold. 1.22 works fine for me, but that doesn't mean it always will and I don't have confidence they will be timely with firmware fixes if they release them at all.

I don't think anyone knows what the company is doing. I was pointing out that the Carlinkit folk provided official download links to March firmware updates (and February before that).

The March 4 and 6th ones are archived here in this forum. A number of us also have kept personal archives.

** What I was trying to politely dissuade was the suggestion that 1.22 was the same as the March updates**

Or that there was something sinister or unofficial about the Feb and March updates that Carlinkit provided by manual downlaod links.

I made the request because that would naturally confuse people about trying an update they might find helpful for making their device function better if they were having issues.

** As noted we are all supporting each other more then the company/s have been supporting us. Most of us can not memorize everything from the 94 pages and counting... Couple that with new users reading recent pages and I thought it might make sense as we have all been suggesting to keep the information as accurate as we have been able to determine.

The quote from the company mentions "on line" updates. Perhaps that translates to Over the Air which is true. Other updates have been made available by download only (to the best of my knowledge).

Does anyone have the 3.4 file I can download please? I remember going from 1.22 to 3.4 which seemed to work perfect then saw 3.6 and 3.6 appeared to have choppiness problems with Waze and music so I went back to 1.22 to fix that. But deleted the 3.4 file. 3.4 worked well as I recall

I don’t. I have 3.06 and 1.22 archived unfortunately. I also have the 2.0 update. It’s not like me to not have all of these. Wish I could help, but I’m sure someone does.

Here's the 3.4. file:

Interesting find last night. I know this has been done before but managed to capture the log on the way to carlinkit.

Has some interesting insights into how these work. looks like it runs a version of ubuntu which runs the fakecarplay app on top of it then establishes an airplay connection to send the audio over.

Would be interesting to see how this compares to the official apple solution. I'm guessing this is a SoC version of their Android dongles and is definitely interesting.

It also shows that it queries the cars gps so we can see that it at least looks for it and likely uses it for the carplay

Would suggest avoiding Beta IOS though just in case... Yes for many of us 3.04 is the best and 3.06 was regression to poor behavior that we had seen 1.22 after IOS updates or for Certain AV systems in certain cars. Thanks for re-linking 3.04. The original is around page 73 if I recall. if someone wants 1.22 It as well as already posted 3.04 and 3.06. I can not remember if 1.22 was already posted here as well.

Is there a support email carlinkit has? I’m having an issue where half the time I connect to it my music will start playing through the speakers but the CarPlay screen is black. Nothing I do seems to get it to come up.

MNSports geek do you know what version of Carlinkit firmware you have you can use Safari on ipone when connected and type 192.168.50.2 and it will tell you towards the bottom of the page. From the same screen you can upload logs to them as well while the problem is present (though I have never uploaded personally). They might need to the capture to diagnose if the issue is unique.

Shauder thanks did not see that it was released.. I usually wait a couple of days nice to know at least it does not break Carlinkit.

I am on the 3.18 firmware and got the following reply from them:

“Hi, friend, for this product, it has 2 version now, the one is 2020.01.22, and the other one is 2020.03.18. But the 2020.03.18 version is the beta version, it has not been released officially. So the buyers who has 2020.01.22 version, they cannot upgrade to the 2020.03.18 version yet. And also, the 2020.03.18 version cannot be downgraded to 2020.01.22 version, you will need to wait for the new version updates later, wish you can understand, thanks a lot!”

i did upload my log to them so hopefully it is improved in the next version.
