I probably didn't make myself clear...I have enabled them there. Unless there's another place?

Ah, were they already enabled when you first opened the app on your new phone? What happens if you turn them off and then on again - do you get the permission request from the system then?

Yes they were already enabled. If I try to turn them off I am prompted to enable notifications in phone settings. It's almost as though the app thinks they are off, but the phone sees them as on?

I have tried deleting and rebooting then reinstalling but that didn't help. Weird!

That's the next thing I was going to suggest - deleting then reinstalling the app. Hmm...

When you reinstalled the app, were the notifications already turned on in the app? I wonder if some file is sticking around in memory.

Yes they were already turned on in the app as soon as it was reinstalled

I figured out the "workaround." This time after uninstalling and reinstalling I didn't restore my premium purchase until after trying to turn on notifications. That of course failed, but prompted the OS to ask me to allow notification. Then I restored my premium purchase. All is well again.

Woohoo! Was just coming here to try to think of a workaround :p Will see if this is something I can get fixed in the next update, thanks for the heads up.

Would precipitation probability works for user in Asean countries?

p/s: It's raining right now but the app is indicating: partly moony, etc.

One tip for Carrot app on the new WatchOS 4 beta - you must have the correct watch face selected for the app to show up on your watch face. (This was an issue in Watch OS 3) By default the app had modular selected and it wasn't until I selected Utility that the the face sync'ed with the app to show current temp at the bottom of the face. Cheers!

Cheers,
Bobbie

Precipitation probability should work worldwide, though unfortunately my weather data source (darksky.net) isn't as accurate outside the US and UK. I'm working on adding another weather data source in my next big update to help with this problem.

For current version, it’s been indicating 0%.

Also, this morning when it was sunny outside, the forecast predicted rain

Will you also be adding the option for another weather source to your Mac version? I like to have CARROT on everything, even toast.

Can you explain more about the subscription change ? I'm a bit afraid to upgrade right now.

Honestly I was ok with the current app functionality.

There aren't any huge changes to worry about. Premium users will continue to get all the features they currently have, plus all the new features for iPhone users coming in the big 4.0 update.

There will also be a subscription tier above premium that's solely for people who want Weather Underground data on their Apple Watch. If you don't care about WU data, you don't need to worry about that subscription tier. (And if you do care about it, you can always upgrade to that subscription when it becomes available - you get refunded for the remaining time on your prior subscription, so you'd basically just be paying the difference between the two subs when you upgrade.)

I saw your post above around WU providing better data outside the UK and US. This might put you in a tough spot, but since moving to the US from the UK a couple of years ago, those are the two places I spend most of my time (Boo! I miss traveling Europe). Do you think the new upgrade will improve accuracy in those places too? I’ve already freaked people out here by glancing at my watch and saying “it’ll rain in 45 minutes”. :p

Weather Underground can be more accurate for some areas of the US and UK, just like Dark Sky can be more accurate for other parts of the two countries. I recommend looking up the cities you frequent on both websites, then using the Apple Weather app as an arbiter for which is more accurate.

Thanks. Is the subscription one or the other, or is it possible to have both and switch?

If you have the standard premium subscription you'll get both Weather Underground and Dark Sky on the iPhone, so you can test it on there to see which you like better before upgrading to the higher tier.

And of course if you upgrade to the higher tier, you can switch between the sources used for the Apple Watch as well.

Perfect.

Found Carrot looking for the best Watch weather app I could find, and it’s always been one of the best examples of how Watch apps should work. It’s earned permanent spaces on my iPad and iPhone widget too. One happy meatbag ;)
