I've already got DarkSky. What can I do with Carrot that I can't already do and what will it cost me?

Probably the biggest difference is the customizable complications. CARROT Weather was the first (and still one of the only) Apple Watch apps that allows you to customize complications and add multiple complications to the same watch face with different data points displayed in each.

I (and of course many of my users) find it incredibly useful to have the current temperature, wind speed, precipitation chance - or whatever data points you care about most - all on one watch face so it's always visible without having to tap into an app.

The main app costs $3.99, and to get half-hourly data updates, alerts, and customization there's a Premium Club subscription that currently costs $2.49 / year. (That price will be going up a little for new subscribers with the introduction of version 4.0 and its new features later this month - though there will also be an ultra-low-cost monthly subscription option coming that allows you to try out the features without paying almost as much as the base app.)

Half hourly updates? How often does DarkSky update my info?

Not sure if they publish that information.

Unfortunately, my weather data provider charges a small amount for each weather data request - and this quickly adds up when the Apple Watch complication is requesting 48 updates per day. (For comparison’s sake, a user who doesn’t have a complication installed typically uses only 1 or 2 update requests per day.) Without charging extra for the subscription, in just 1 year it would cost me more to supply you the weather data than you paid for the app. The reason other apps can get by without charging extra for complications is either because they're very large companies or they're backed by venture capital.

Congratulations on the 4.0 release! What are the features exclusive to Ultra premium subscription ?

The only thing that Ultrapremium adds is Weather Underground data on the Apple Watch. Extra cost is because WU is more expensive to begin with, and I also have to download both Dark Sky and WU data at the same time.

Mine is saying to add a city in the iPhone counterpart on my watch. Sadness. Maybe a watch OS4 thing?

Hmm, I'm not aware of any issues with watchOS 4. What happens if you restart both your watch and phone?

MakerofCarrot, congrats on the launch of version 4!

I like the new look and use of colors.
I mix using Carrot and Weather Underground. I'd love to use Carrot exclusively but WU offers a few display features I find useful..
- Hourly chart includes wind speed and directional arrow
- Line graph display showing temperature and chance of precipitation similar to hourly view but spread across days in a readable way

Will the premium upgrade on version 4 allow me to add humidity and/or wind speed to the existing hourly display?
Does it give additional view options for the daily view? Are there screenshots available of what you can do with the premium version?

Thanks for your efforts!

You can indeed customize the hourly chart to show additional/different data points. Here it is with wind speed added, and I also added precipitation chance and wind speed to the daily view. You can't customize the actual design of the app yet, but that is definitely the plan for future updates.

The first thing I want to do is add an option for a vertical display of daily details, so you can see the descriptions for every day at once, like in the original app.

Excellent, you now have another premium subscriber!
I look forward to additional display of daily details!

One more request, could we get an option for a 3rd line of info in the hourly. I'm greedy and would like Humidity, % precip and wind. :)

Also, the 'smart interval' option is really cool.

Thanks again

loving the V4 update. going to go with WU on the phone and stick with dark sky on the watch for a while (right now, they seem to be almost exactly the same as each other for my location so it's hard to pull the trigger on the new subscription for the sake of it).

you know what might make me love you more than a little bit? if you could pull from both sources *simultaneously* and somehow highlight if they're wildly different (DS says clouds, WU says thunderstorms. DS says 0% chance of rain, WU says 50%. that sort of thing) or choose the worst case scenario. that'd be an ultraawesome feature.

That would be cool! I'll see if I can work something like that in.

And yeah, don't forget that WU isn't "better" than Dark Sky, they're just different sources. So Dark Sky might actually be more accurate in your area. Meteorological science is more art than science, after all...

Congratulations on the v4 design, it's excellent. I don't think the difference between the two sources is enough to justify an Ultrapremium subscription for me but doing something like nicho suggested and combining the sources to get a "accurater" forecast would be brilliant and would certainly make UP worth it.

Really nice update to v4, i like the new style and instantly subscribed ;)

Is it possible to add this weather curve for the next hours to the big comlication of the modular watch face or something more graphical to the siri watch face in the future? I dont know if this is possible at all.

Thank you and keep going you great work :)

Unfortunately it's not possible to add big graphics to complications like that. You can only add a rather small square image to the modular large slot, for example - I use that to show the current condition right now.

in my area Weather Underground has regular people that setup their own weather stations in their backyards and they use that information. It their app they highlight which station they are using (for me it's Naperville Central HS). can the station source be shown in your app?

Yep! There's an option in the current forecast customization section to show the station the data came from in one of your slots.

In the locations screen, you can choose to either 1) always use a certain station when you are within 500m of it or 2) always use a certain station for a saved location. Just tap the more button next to your current location or the saved location.

I added all this after one of the stations near my house that the app kept picking up was showing super-inaccurate temperature data. All the other stations nearby were fine.

Clicking on the 3 dots I select 'pinpoint' which brings up a map and lets me choose where on the map I want a reading from, but it does not show the location of the weather stations.

I also have a station near me that has very flaky data but without seeing the station locations I'm not sure which one I'm pulling from. Am I missing the option to see them on the map?

Yeah, you can't currently see the stations on the map, I don't think WU actually provides their GPS location - I'll look into that. You'd have to look up the station name you want to use in the WU app, then manually select it in CARROT.

Hi there. Nice app update, thank you. One thing I have noticed is that under iOS 11 Carrot 4 seriously gets the iPhone hot and tanks the battery. Are you aware of this?
