Possibly.

Regardless, I hand my phone over to a family member when I get a new one. I just handed my iPhone 6, in pristine condition, to my cousin so he could replace his iPhone 5. His iPhone 5 went to his 10 year old daughter as her first iPhone.

I like to have a pristine phone when I give it to a family member each year. No dings, scratches, or signs of wear. Been doing this since handing over my iPhone 4s when I got my iPhone 5. Will do the same when I get my iPhone 7.

Hell even my BlackBerry Passport, which is a tank, is in a case.
Just curious…not trying to start anything.

But if the relative you give the pristine phone to each year does not use a case…does that bother you?

All that protection you went through to give the family member a pristine phone and they might go off and use the phone without a case? Does that cause some agitation?

Or is it simply a matter of, "Well it's their phone now, I don't care"?

Or do they use cases anyway? Do you require that they use a case as a condition to receive the phone?

Sorry, not trying to be an inquisitor, just genuinely curious.

I let my kids use my iPad (no case) but there are a number of conditions they must meet (clean hands, no food/drink, etc).

I want it to be perfect or as near to it as possible. That's what I can control. Once it leaves my hands it's theirs to do with as they wish. But I presented a pristine device.

As a matter of coincidence, my cousin uses a case and a screen protector.

Thanks, I get that. Just wondered.

My viewpoint may be totally different from Qbnkelt but I have a similar situation. I sell my electronics for top sale value to my in-laws family. They love the condition my phones are in and have said they will buy anything I have to sell.

I keep a case on my phones for protection and for extra grip as well. I currently have the 6S Plus and find it super slippery with no case.

I try to keep my phone in decent shape mainly because I like it that way. Once I sell it, I could care less what the next person does with it as I'll be on to a new phone.

It boils down to simply if I give something I've used to someone, I want it to be in excellent condition. Which is why I take care of my things. Someone mentioned a car....I take the best care possible because when I sell it, I will get better resale value. All things being equal, people will want whatever car is in better condition and I can ask more for it than if it were full of dings and bumps.

I understand, but I don't share that same concern. Not that I abuse my stuff, just that I don't use my things at that level of care.

Every case I've ever used has improved my experience with whatever phone I'm using. The only cases that made it significantly worse were Otterbox or Lifeproof cases.

Is there a reason some of you idiots are using the term "rape" in regards to this discussion?

I was never a fan of putting a case on my iPhone. I briefly had a very slim case on my 5/5s. But my 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4s, 6, 6s have never had a case on them. I admittedly like to baby the Apple products that I own, since when I do sell them, I like the products to be in pristine condition. Fortunately, I can count on one hand the amount of times that I have dropped my iPhones dating back to 2008.

Plus, now that I'm on the Apple Upgrade Program for the iPhone, I don't have to be concerned about how much I'll be able to sell the phone for since I'll be trading it in once I upgrade.

Well, yes, it's like, well, you know logical conclusion if you have a phone and keep dropping it. You are holding it wrong.

Love it how a discussion of one drop turns into "keep dropping it."

Major leap there.

But then again someone who uses the word "rape" when dealing with an inanimate object is likely to engage in hyperbole.

Just don't buy the phone at all since you rape it with cases and screen protectors anyway and do not enjoy using it in the process. That way you will save 6-7 hundred instantly.

I always kept a case on my Burgundy SGS3. ONE day, ONE SINGLE DAY, I took the case off and dropped the phone. The screen broke in a spider Web pattern and then began to chip off.

Yeah, that's happened to me, too. You know what I did?

I shrugged, made an insurance claim, and had a new phone the next day.

Still go caseless after that and haven't had a problem since.

Congratulations. It's your prerogative to what you wish with your device. Similarly it's my prerogative to do what I wish with mine.

I don't believe that they kill the experience. To me, not using a case kills the experience, due to the lack of grip that my 6+ provides. It's nice to use my 6+ without the Speck CandyShell Grip every so often, but it doesn't last long thanks to how slippery the damn phone is.

Ive speaks in marketing tongue, designed to mesmerize the easily impressed. Words hyper focused on creating an illusion of brilliance, words used to sell phones. By using expressions many Apple devotees fail to understand, they assume whatever he means must be spectacular.

The tactile experience my 6 series iPhones provide is slippery and not conducive to being easy to use. Flat slabs front and rear, a case less iPhone is very disappointing.

Conversely without a so called "World Class Designer" Motorola has created the tactile masterpiece known as the MOTO X Pure.

My MX Pure is a phone I've been able to use without a case, safely, since day one. With its compound curves, stylish modern design, it's warm and inviting, not cold and industrial like the J.Ive slab.

If Apple built products that were as superior as Apple execs think they are, the sales volume would rise even higher.

Way to miss the point of the forum.

You know what ruins my iPhone experience? Scratches and dings. This is a $1000 pocket-sized computer I'm carrying around with me, and I like keeping it nice. Damage drives me crazy. So yes, I always use a Belkin case and a tempered glass screen protector. It's the most important, most versatile device I own. I treat it as such.

I understand, too, but I just don't think a phone is worth being obsessive over. And I don't abuse my stuff, either. Other than one phone that broke and was replaced by insurance, I've never had a phone that had more than one or two very minor scratches on it. These things really aren't that hard to take care of without a case.

Meh, it's like that even without a case. That sharp plastic edge that holds the glass in place. So you go from smooth glass to dragging finger across sharp plastic with some resistance, and then to yet another texture with the aluminum. The silicone bump you get with the Apple case is more pronounced but no more annoying. And the edge features still work...

I don't sense any harsh plastic... and the edge features barely work. Its much harder to press at the edge when its cover and its not as nice to swipe in from the edge when you've totally lost the curved glass (the only nice bit of design on the iPhone 6..) those bulky corners on the official case are grim. I hated them the more I looked at them, I hate the way they stick out, I hate how thick they are, I hate how they make the phone look like a toy. I hate the way it makes the phone over 50% thicker too. Nah, wasn't doing it for me i'm afraid.

LOL!!!! True!

My colleague's experience has greatly diminished by not being able to use his device and having to use a dumb phone until a replacement is issued.

Stop exaggerating. You are probably talking about the Otterbox Extreme Cases.Cases like these dont add bulk nor would I call that "raping" the phone. It doesnt sacrifice the look any and keeps my device in pristine condition

I don't even like these though, they tend to be made of cheap horrible bendy plastic, they feel crap to touch, they are to flexible where it joins the phone, they collect crap down the edges, they give it a horrible glossy look - and to be honest it'd just look better if it had some light marks or scratches on it, which are quite hard to make anyway.
