Nice

What amazes me is that there is a CLEAR work around to Flash and yet we have these negative, almost ignorant sounding, people who complain about a lack of Flash. CBS is smart and taking advantage of this work around. good for them!!!!!!

Standard, shmandard. It works in all browsers except IE and IE-9 will partially support it.

You can use HTML5 in IE, just need a little hacking to get it going. In other words nothing out of the ordinary.

Too bad Flash isn't just for video, as opposed to what some people think, it's also for animations and games, which of course, cannot be replicated in HTML5 at all...

I just bought iMac 27" with i7 and 16GB RAM .....and guess what?
Flash still crashing. Adobe is a joke. Bye Bye flash. Not missed:mad:

Exactly! There are a lot of people that post in these threads that seem unable to grasp this concept.

I'm sure they are aware of those, but like me the only flash interaction they most likely have is watching video on Hulu, Youtube, or whatever and a lot of very annoying ads that suddenly pop up.

From my experience most people that play flash games are either below 15 or above 60 OR play farmville and mafia wars.. The rest use consoles or "normal" games.

You left out it's most important use, spreading malware on Windows :D

If you've posted or even seriously considered the thought that Flash is dead or dying... you're technical opinions are baseless and have absolutely zero value. Yes, that is a fact. Read on.
...

Yeah, that's all very well, but you are forgetting one minor fact in your analysis: Flash sucks balls.

Flash games are crap anyways, if you want flash games, you can go find the crappy games on the app store.

I browse without Flash every day. It's called ClickToFlash, and I never click.

Word. People must be using Flash for viewing videos all the time or something, which I rarely do and thus rarely need Flash. And as we've seen, there is an open, viable replacement for viewing videos.

The majority of you couldn't OOP your way off of your couch, let alone understand the technology behind anything you are commenting on.

Ahh, a programmer.

** vitriol snipped **

It's just sad.

What's sad is that you Flash apologists can't see the writing on the wall. Every now and then some "web developer" comes in and tells us all how critical and popular Flash is. It's a closed, proprietary and unnecessary plugin that it's worth the hassle of using it. People don't want to be tied to junk like that - the results of Microsofts browser ballot screen in the EU shows the same thing - declining market share as soon as people have a choice.

The internet is embracing mobile devices, and many of those devices don't support Flash. Websites want eyeballs, not employment trend graphs, and if they have to drop Flash to get those eyeballs then that's what they'll do. And they are.

It's happening right now. Come back in five years and show us your graph. Perhaps you could use Flash to demonstrate what we're missing.

Animations can, as a matter of fact, be done without Flash, and try searching for the Javascript Doom demo. Flash is needed less and less and less.

ahh, an overzealous fanboy.

the walls of apple's magical garden

People don't want to be tied to junk like that
but clearly there's no problem being locked down inside an over priced, larger iPod touch.
declining market share as soon as people have a choice.
are you honestly defending choice while supporting Apple's decision to not include Flash? you do see the hypocrisy, right?

The internet is embracing mobile devices, and many of those devices don't support Flash.
if by "many of those devices" you mean apple's iPhone OS devices, you are correct.

It's happening right now. Come back in five years and show us your graph.
let's examine the logic of your statement. if something is happening right now, why should 5 years elapse to show you evidence of the occurrence? what's happening right now is evident in that graph presented to you. now means now, now doesn't mean in 5 years.

Like the Wicked Witch of the West melting down after being doused with water, so too is the iPad h8tr on hearing major companies are starting to support HTML5 immediately. Too funny to hear their last shrieks... "but cheezy games. Annoying animated ads. Random browser freezes. You will rue the day Flash became less dominant. Rue it."

What amazes me is that there are clearly thousands of Flash websites that people regularly visit, yet some ignorant people keep telling us that there are ways around Flash. There might be, but a lot of web designers just don't give a toss about the iPad or HTML5. It's not about the very few leading newspaper sites and it's not about what the future will be like. When I buy a gadget in a few weeks time, I'll want it to function well then. However, as turning Flash on my computer proved, it will clearly not be the case.

If Apple wanted to make a device for the future, they should have come up something better than this. HTML5 is a lame and stupid excuse. An overgrown iPod Touch of the future deserves better!

Suuure. Please name these sites. I'm running on a lowly MBP and have yet to have flash take a dump.

It's not a workaround when HTML5 video can't play video in full screen. The joke's on all the ignorant HTML5 lemmings.

And forget about getting full access to websites such as Porsche, BMW, et. al. that use flash.

It's almost comical the fervor defending against not having flash. Guess what? If you have it, you can opt not to use it. But if you don't have it, your SOL. With mobile flash around the corner, the joke will be on all the Apple fanbois out in the cold clinging to the hopes of HTML5.

Same here. ClicktoFlash, and never click.
If you never use flash then why don't you just uninstall it instead of having to use ClickToFlash? Uh huh.

Well said. IMO Flash has its place, but video isn't one of them.

I don't think Steve Jobs likes this. Can you imagine being able to play all kinds of videos on the iPad? It would cut into Apple's bottom line.

Oh well, only 99.999999999999999999999999999% of the web left to do and the iPad can view it all.

(Apart from Flash games I guess)
