It is important to remember that the feel of a phone is completely subjective.

I personally prefer round edges to sharp edges. My hand curves, it is not shaped to conform to a box.

Agreed with regard to the subjectivity. I prefer the opposite. I like the sharp edges, and love the weight/balance of the iPhone 4 in my hand. It's too bad Apple doesn't have two different *equal* flavors of phones.

it doesnt make sense that Apple would be releasing an iPhone 4S alongside iOS5.

I am still fully expecting an announcement of an iPhone 5 on Tuesday, whether the 4S is meant to be the 5, or the 5 is a completely new design, is another matter.

This news has certainly made me slightly more disappointed though...

I am so so happy!

So happy it will be an iPhone 4S. It will be a great phone. Who cares about a redesign, I mean are we so so spoiled? I guess so.

I am going to be happy and I will embrace this iPhone and never ever think
about an iPhone 5, because really,, who cares??

Other than the little whiners here? Nobody.

Peace

I think iPhone 5 will be announced too (because of the rumours about production delays), just released a bit later, iPhone 4S will be released first. That's why there's no "evidence" of the iPhone 5 at the moment unlike the 4S.

why would they make the 4 the lower end and the 4S the "high end". seems pretty stupid and confusing 2 the customer to me. they will probably release the 4S now and announce the iPhone 5 for a bit later, which i wouldnt mind as i have to wait til january anyway xD

And the Galaxy S2 is a box also, a narrower, flimsier, box shape.

I have to admit, I do enjoy watching adults complain about the shape of a phone like it's the most important thing going on in the world right now, whoring their self written, self obsessed rant of a post out to others like it's the gospel word.

I personally and particularly don't care what Apple do on Tuesday, I'm intrigued but it won't change my life. I will stay with the iPhone brand because I have invested over £500 in Apps that I greatly enjoy and am not looking to walk away from that investment.

However, some folk need to get out more.

I think it is people just saying what feels more natural and comfortable to them. Nothing wrong with sharing their opinion, considering you are doing the same right now.

IMHO the redesigned iPhone will come out next year, June would be a good time because the 2 year contracts will be up from the introduction of the current iPhone 4. Why lay down a big wedge of money when in 7 or 8 months time contracts can be renewed with a subsidised phone. Apple have until then to rest on their laurels.

I'm hoping for a 4s, not a 5.

reasons...

I never bought the 4, and love the design.

I will be buying one the moment they are released, and want the latest tech.

I don't like large touch screen phones, I think the iPhone is pretty perfect in its dimensions.

If apple were to release a 4s as the low end model, I would have to choose between the latest tech (in the 5), and the 4s for its design but with worse internals... not ideal

By not upgrading the externals, perhaps apple will be more inclined to up the
storage of the 4s, meaning that I could buy a 32GB for less (will be buying out of contract for likely about £600/$935)

OMG, god forbid u have a choice

I'm still on my original iPhone (1), 8 GB with OS version 1.1.4 on it. Still working fine (even battery life is decent) but the speaker and mic grille are clogged up and there's no easy way to clean out the gunk. GPS, a worthwhile camera and 3G would be neat sometimes. I hope I can buy an unlocked one right away, I'd be totally fine with an 8GB iPhone 4.

Perhaps this low-end iPhone is destined for developing markets. Namely Brazil.

But, it'll be still utterly disappointing to see the only differences between this iPhone and the iPhone 4S (if there isn't a 5) are the hardware. :(

Theres logic in every explanation regarding this whole debacle.

So what i've managed to conclude (my own assumptions) from all the articles is the following.

Foxconn, manufacturing plants in brazil and china. So we have all seen the news about Foxconn Brazil.

Why would apple entrust the manufacturing of the iPhone 5 to a plant which is not thier lead partner. Granted it is still Foxconn but Apple has been first and formost engaged with China since day 1. They can control the leaks the leakers, every aspect of manufacturing. As Brazil is fairly new to the game why not let them manufacture the already designed iPhone 4s, theres nothing new to it, they can afford this to be leaked. Im many ways it helps as it throws the consumer off the trail of an iPhone 5 and claims of its existence then come into question.

Im not concerned if there is only a 4s or a 4 or a 5, i need a new iPhone so ill be buying in regardless. However i believe there is and will be released an iPhone 5. There are too many hints and believable leaks for me to not think so (albeit these leaks have been controlled to gain free advertising)

iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS... Ring any bells?

Anyway, those who have hard time believing iOS 5 without iPhone 5 should note that iOS is no longer iPhone OS but one that is used from iPads to ATV's and everything between. None of those devices are at "5". In all honesty I think there will be more and more separation between the iOS numbering and the devices using it.

Looking at iPhone development history we've already had one "S" model so I don't it's hard to imagine we will have another. Regarding the time it takes to complete redesign I wouldn't be surprised if Apple will take it's time before introducing a new model. iPhone 4 had it's fare share critique so I think Apple wants to make sure iPhone 5 will have all around solid technical performance before they release it. On the other hand I'll bet iPhone 4S antennae is redesigned and minor "issues" have ironed out.

GMAB! Us consumers have made Apple the most successful (by Market Capitalization) company in the world. A great % of their profits come from iPhones. Also, Android phones are improving, quite often. So, if Apple wants our business, they need to give us the best phone and design it to our liking. That's how the game works. Sure, even without the rumored redesigned iPhone 5, Apple will sell millions. That doesn't mean, in the future, it will not hurt their business.

Not approved

According to the hand written text, the reason this batch failed approval was due to "Lentes Manchados" or "stained lenses".

Sorry if someone else has already posted this. There were just too many comments to read through.

Holy **** :-( I cannot believe this, how can Apple release just this after this long time??? How will they stay in competition against the Samsung GS2 and probably in 6 months the GS3 ????
