Apple Watch (with an iPhone 5S, even if left at home) supports Apple Pay. The only reason the iPhone 5S is mentioned at all is that Apple Watch cannot be used without an iPhone. An iPhone 5S only supports Apple Pay with an Apple Watch.
correct

LOL, who told you that? Been using Apple Pay With 5S ever since it came out.

No you haven't. It's NOT supported.

my guess - it is going to be just size/display shrink-ed version of iPhone 6S - one can hope right? (then remove the iPhone 6 from the line up)

same component different sizes and difference price points.

They will NOT remove the 6 from the lineup until after the 7S appears. The 6 is a critical step in Apple gaining the remaining lower end of the Android spectrum who might switch the iOS if they could get the same size phone for the same price.

The 4" will be based on the 6S and initially priced at the bottom of the 6S/Plus range, then will be priced between the 6S & 6S Plus when the 7 is released. That gives Apple a family of phones to depreciate each year, just like they do with the iPad and MacBook, and desktop Macs -- assuming the sales data supports the continued manufacture of a 4" phone.

Well that is too bad. this is what you get with Apple ecosystem. You have no choice beside getting what Apple offers. On other side of the world, you can choose screen size you like, display type you like and customize your phone to your liking. The choice is yours.

Hasn't that always been the case with Apple?

Apple makes the OS... they make the hardware... they control the entire ecosystem. It's been like this for a while.

Same in computers too. Do you want a Macintosh? You gotta buy it from Apple.

However... if you're comfortable using another operating system... Lenovo, HP, Dell, Asus, Acer and many others will be glad to sell you a machine.

But just remember... ALL platforms have some level of compromise. It's up to you to decide how much you'll put up with.

I don't think the report is accurate. All it said is: April and after: new Apple flagship phone. It motion nothing about iPhone 6C nor 4 inch.

I certainly wouldn't bet the bank on its accuracy. I highly doubt that Apple has shared their roadmap with any carrier, especially 4-5 months out

Can't imagine Apple putting the top-end specs in what will likely be their cheapest phone. It will likely get an A8 and replace the 6. Won't have the A9 and 2 GB RAM of the 6S. That's for the next iteration of the small phone.

I've gotten used to the larger form factor of the 6, but if it didn't have Reachability I wouldn't even blink an eye at switching back to a 4" phone. I still believe that's the perfect size even though I'm pretty well adjusted to 4.7" now.

I wish the 5s had reachability. Ever since they went 16:9 with the 5, using it one-handed you have to adjust your hand to reach the top of the screen. Better yet I wish Apple would go back to the perfect screen size of the original iPhone.

I plan to upgrade my iPhone 5S with an iPhone 6C mainly because I want Apple Pay support. I very much hope it will also support 3D Touch but I'll buy it just to get Apple Pay support, 801.11ac, LTE Advanced, the A9 chip, the motion coprocessor, and improved cameras.

I have absolutely no use, need, or desire to get a 4.7" phablet. I already have an iPad Air for when I want a two-handed device.

For the record - the 5s already has a motion coprocessor.

In fact the 5s was the first iPhone with the motion coprocessor

My 5s is looking cooler and cooler. Does everything I need it to do. The new one has to really step it up for me to "upgrade"

"Upgrade" being the specific thing. If it's a cheaper looking smaller 6, then that's not an upgrade for me.

I agree. And the 5S keeps up really well. Just bought and returned the 6s. It is a bit faster, camera focuses faster and 3D Touch is cool, but I actually think the 5S is for me the better choice. The 6S is slimmer, but the larger form factor makes it so that it is noticed more when carried in my pocket. The 5S disappears in comparison.

Mobile payments are available via bluetooth anyway so I see little reason for upgrading anytime soon. Almost "everyone" has upgraded to 6 and 6S so carrying the 5S is almost a bit special these days.

Well, they do make the Apple watch in two sizes with the same specs, one for small wrists, one for large wrists.
I'd love this to happen to the iPhone too, wouldn't mind paying the same as for the "full size", as long as the camera is as good.

They can announce the new phone in March during an event for Apple Watch 2 and launch it on April. There is a market for 4'' smartphones and 5s is quite old and doesn't support Apple Pay so a new iPhone without 3D touch but with Apple pay and with A8 could be a good idea

Ditto - so far in fact that I went ahead and bought a 5S for use, retiring my 6 that I bought on launch day. I just purchased the 5S about ~1.5 months ago. So much better to use.

same here, had 5s, bought 6 plus to test whether it will replace 5s/ipad mini combo... sold 6 plus and bought 5s 2 weeks ago, best iphone (for me) ever created, now i know that 5/5s form factor is the best for me, so I will never again buy bigger phone

"2.5D curved edge cover glass"
Is that an attempt to make it sound like one of these Samsungs 'flagship' phones?
Nope. Just the type of glass used on the 6/6S series. Slightly curved near the edges.

Why wouldn't it? My 5S is only a few months old and it's very fast on iOS 9. I personally see no need to upgrade yet.
My wife's iPhone 5S is just fantastic on iOS 9.2

January No! February No! March No! April Yes, oh sorry No! May yes but maybe
January would be an awful month to launch a new product.

Scroll to the bottom: with an iPhone 5 AND an Apple Watch you can use Apple Pay....

Of course it will, you may also find your 5S to be a superior product to what is launched . The 5S is an excellent phone.
Agree. The iPhone 5S is the best iPhone ever IMHO...

Contactless Apple Pay? That's very intriguing!! Would you care sharing, how exactly do you manage to do that?
Easy: couple it with an Apple Watch.

iPhone 6c? boy, that's confusing... but i guess if there are no major hardware changes it probably makes sense..

In terms of design I imagine the new 4' iPhone to be an upgraded 5s with with an A8 or A9 chip, overall improved specifications and a look that comes in different colors (like the 5c). I just can't understand where the "2.5D curved edge cover glass like the glass used on the iPhone 6 and later" fits in this device.

My new phone strategy is to find a phone I like, still using my 5, use it until an expensive repair happens or the latest IOS software will not work on it anymore. This changing for sake of change is not working for me anymore. So far on this phone I have saved almost $500 dollars by not upgrading so often. I am also not seeing the necessity of the new features. Nice to have, will most likely use when I do upgrade but not a gotta have for me. Sum it up, the new three year plus upgrade plan seems very doable for me.
Everyone has their own way to save money. I don't drink a $4 coffee everyday and that saves me $1460/yr. It allows me to upgrade my phone every other year.

Last year I went to my Target store and upgraded my 4s to the 6 because it was the newest one. But I wasn't particularly fond of it.
Got to the parking lot sat in the car with it for a few minutes still not quite happy with it, then went back in and upgraded to the 5s instead.
Best phone I have ever owned and looks as beautiful an object as I ever owned. The 6 still does nothing for me. It looks like a downgrade to me.

removing 6 all together really depends how well iPhone 6S selling. Btw, we are not far away from iPhone 7 - about 10 months. really depends if 4" iPhone 6S mini becomes low cost alternate with same specs as the bigger version iPhone 6S.

iPhone 6 64GB costs - $650 not really low end by any means.

ATT/Verizon/Sprint - all pushing the customers towards installment plan. this quarter we might know the impact. Sprint is removing contracts of end of 2015 - I believe.
