So lame.

But it's the only way to sell this thing. No one who's into tech is excited about it, because it's not an exciting tech product.

So what do you do?

You go to Paris Fashion Week and to fashion models and you try to make this ugly thing into a must have fashion accessory for desperate Vogue readers who buy fake Armani hand bags.

Wow, really? I work for a major CE company and many of us can't wait to get our hands on one. The Apple Watch is pushing the boundaries of technology; sensors, miniaturization, displays, UI, design, etc.

I'd argue that the only people who don't seem excited about it are the luddites and the tech illiterate.

It's a Wearable

Unlike any other Apple product, the Watch needs to be fashion conscious since it is a wearable. Style is important to any Apple product, but a wearable is first and foremost a fashion piece and then second a functional piece. There is nothing a watch can do that another piece of technology can't. In order to be successful a wearable in the form of a watch needs to look stylish even if it doesn't do anything. Then you can start thinking about what goes inside.

I have a feeling apple is holding something back in the Apple watch and would give out more details at the iPad event or perhaps later..

yeah.. later probably.. but i'd be willing to bet (a small amount) we'll see an apple product (or apple compatible product) which goes inside your body by 2025.. monitoring blood and whatnot.
apple watch X

Odd. For "slaves" people sure seem to work in those factories willingly. But of course, if you rode in there on your white horse, perhaps you can liberate them from those awful jobs so that they can go back to near-starvation working the fields so that you can feel better about yourself, despite what those employees want.

Whenever Foxconn are hiring, they never seem to have any problem adding 100,000 workers to their production lines, and these so called slaves are indeed lined up by the hundreds of thousands to apply for those 'awful jobs'….. 'nuff said.

Smart move by Apple to show this cute model wearing the :apple: Watch Edition. It explains what this taptic thing is really for. Give her this watch and she'll send you her heartbeat...

Has the definition of Slave somehow changed on the last few years, that am not aware of??

Yes, now people working volontarily somewhere with better working conditions and better salary than they can find anywhere else with their current skill set, is slavery... (sic).

Guess, that's like someone around here going to work at a Toyota plant straight from working in the fields picking fruits 12h a day, and calling their new job "slavery".... How likely would that be.

American watch needs a classic American hand model

meh.. you're marketed to also.. you're a target.. you buy stuff because advertisements tell you to.. you(;)) fall for the tricks too..

just different tricks but it doesn't help anything to make fun of people that fall for the tricks you're not susceptible to..

this place confuses me.. so many complaints are about apple being too focused on making things small and slim etc.. then the smallest thing they make comes out and it's deemed bulky / huge

Its not really hard actually . For a phone to go from 9mm to 8.x mm is of no intrest to anyone (except someone brainwashed by pr) you barely notice or feel that .

In a watch on the other hand it does count as regular watches are 5-6mm and all these smartwatches including apple 10+mm. Big difference .

I hoped apple would have released something a lot better then thus . Oh wel perhaps watch 2 and then airwatch will be better .

A high end watch mage in china using slave labor! Now what will the Swiss and other high-end watch makers think?

Huh?

...after reading this rumor on his Macbook Pro and checking in on his flight using his iPhone 5S, which both were built by whom exactly...? :D

I don't know what world you live in where regular watches are 5-6mm.

Regular watches range from 10-20mm.
Slim dress watches are usually below 10mm.

you are exactly. i think apple is incredibly smart by learning from where other companies have failed. other companies with more resources and just as much talents have tried and couldn't really make watch a real hit, exactly because they were marketing them to the tech crowd. people who would buy those watches are the real geeks like us who comment on this site. however, the majority of the iphone users and apple customers will not buy it. for apple's watch to be successful, it must make inroads to the majority of the market who are not appealed by cool technical feature. we are talking about the huge swath of women who read fashion magazine, and men who wear watches for fashion statement. fashion is a statement about oneself. when a person chooses Prada over Gucci he/she is making a decision to associate a certain brand's identity with his own. In the same way, Apple is trying to influence the potential audience with a product positioning very different than a computer/electronics, but rather a fashion statement.

Samsung has hired Victoria Secret model Doutzen Kroes for their watch ads. I do think the :apple:watch looks really cute on the Chinese girl, while the Samsung Gear looks too big and bulky for Doutzen's wrist. Note how high she has to wear the watch.

Yeah plus the chinese girl likely has a much smaller wrist.
Samsung. Always falls below your expectations.

Im still surprised that some people seem surprised that Apple are going down the fashion route for the :apple: Watch. It something you wear  You don't wear your iPhone, your iPad, your Mac.

Im just fed up of waiting for one, money is sitting in bank ready, and 3 other mates are waiting too then we can all draw things and send them to each other :D

I am only going to watch if Tim Cook and Jon Ive will still be wearing theirs in the forthcoming keynote. I wouldn't be surprised if they won't....

This kind of manufactured celebrity crap (I assume she's a celebrity if she's being discussed so casually?) should be beneath apple and just pushes me even further away from getting an apple watch. Wait, will it now be hipster and counter culture to use an analouge watch? Damn it...

I love how people trying to be different from the crowed let the crowed dictate what products they buy. It makes them the biggest hipocrites of all.

Is this some kind of automatically generated news site? You need to see a Chinese model to "hint" at a fashion-oriented advertising push?

yeah.. who'd want a bulky watch with a huge 'knob'

EXACTLY. i'm digging all the negative comments - they have happened with every single new Apple product. too big, too expensive, can't change the battery , doesn't do enough, too hard to make a phone call, doesn't have a floppy drive, looks like candy, looks like a large iPhone .... bla bla bla ....

I have a feeling that Apple in fact isn't.

And that is worrying.

They always hold something back for the actual launch. The months leading up to the iPhone release they slowly leaked info - They'll do the exact same thing with the watch. But I doubt they'll get 2 days battery out of it - its a chemistry issue.

If that was the case the watch would be on sale right now. The fact that it's not makes it pretty obvious that what they showed off was not a finished product (at least when it comes to software and battery life).

Styles change, but brands tend to endure.

True. But how much can the Apple Watch style really change? It's design is not versatile. My prediction is the fashion industry will be done with it by less than a year. And this may be their plan - use the fashion industry as their initial marketing - which is an excellent strategy.
