Shame in the sense I can't think of anyone better. However, real-life businessmen as movie characters, even interesting ones, just seems a bit, 'meh'.

There's plenty of drama in Jobs' life but high drama?

The best Steve Jobs yet was Noah Wyle. Bring him back!

Really though, enough with the Steve Jobs movies.
That horse has been thoroughly beaten to death.

Why not a Tim Cook biography movie starring Ellen DeGeneres instead, heh.

LOL, this trainwreck is never going to be made, and it's probably for the best. You get that many signs that it's not meant to be, you should probably pack it in.

This seems like a red flag when high profile actors keep turning the project down, in one case after supposedly accepting.

I am afraid that seems like there are some major flaws in the production, either with the script or some other aspect.

Hope for their sake that the third time's a charm with whomever they pick next!

I watched the film 'Jobs' just last week. Having read all of the various books on Jobs, Apple, The Macintosh and Wozniak, I found the film very disappointing.

I agree that it would be hard to do the story justice in 3 hours, nevermind 90 minutes!

As far as I am concerned the only thing that would do it justice is an HBO epic, such as The Sopranos and Game of Thrones. There is a level of commitment to a quality production that is unparalleled.

However, telling the actual story without 'added drama' would simply not appeal to a big enough audience.

The only conclusion would be to just leave the story as told by the many books available. Sometimes, a big screen effort just isn't right.

-----ONE WEEK LATER------

Bale- excuse me,but who's me co-star?

Producer -Seth rogen. The guy from knocked up and green hornet.

Bale -I'm out,no thanks.

But there would be this:

Producer - Hold on for one minute Mr. Bale

Producer to assistant - Get Seth on the line. Tell him nevermind about the Jobs movie.

Producer to Bale - Forget what I just said about Seth Rogen.

How many Steve Jobs documentaries do we need? I mean, I think he was an interesting guy, but it ain't like he was Lincoln...

Any movie that tries to condense the entire life of Jobs into 90 minutes is also bound to be a failure. There's no way they can show every important event from his life.

I agree, it really should be at least a two-parter, maybe even a trilogy. There's so much to tell there, it needs a longer treatment. Just showing two or three product introductions and the circumstances around those doesn't tell us nearly the whole story.

Edited to add: I think his life would neatly fit into a trilogy, actually. 1- the early years and beginning of Apple, 2- the Sculley years and NeXT, and 3- his return to Apple, the iMac, iPod, and iPhone, and up until his death.

Someone else half-suggested Tom Cruise- I think he might actually be able to do it, but he typically likes more action or suspense-type roles. Now that two famous actors have turned this down, I'm hoping there isn't some kind of weird problem that keeps this from being made.

While it would be a reprise for the actor from his 1999 Pirates of Silicon Valley role (a film I'd argue was not mainstream enough to elicit concern over any risk associated with a reprise), I think Noah Wyle is the best candidate to play Steve Jobs. Today. Not only are his acting chops sufficient, he naturally looks the most like Steve than anyone in Hollywood.

Still a chance for Noah Wyle!

----------

just get Tom Cruise.. LOL He did a good job in Edge of Tomorrow and his performance in Tropic Thunder as an angry executive is just excellent.

Actually, this is a really freaking good idea. Except Steve Jobs was taller than 4' 6" :-O

I guess nobody wants to lose so much weight to be able to play Steve in his last months.... And Matthew Mcconaughey is too different as a guy...

I couldn't agree with you more. Brilliant film POSV. We've had enough sub-par SJ films since.

If anyone want to see some brilliant docus and films:

Scanning through some others suggestions, I increased my list of who I would watch in a movie playing Steve Jobs. Nobody else, so Hollywood, pay attention! :)

  • Noak Wyle
  • Tom Cruise
  • Keanu Reeves

Noah would need to work on being even more type-A a**hole for the early scene(s) but has the humanity to play the later scene(s). Tom seems to have the mirror opposite strengths. Keanu is much like Noah, seems to channel the vegan thing Steve had, but always comes off as a surfer and doesn't seem as intense IMO.

The production seems less than a mainstream biopic like Lincoln (Day-Lewis) or Nixon (Hopkins), so I doubt the A list actors (Tom and Keanu) would take it on (which is why I think Christian Bale left), so I think I would place my $$$ on Noah, B list and my favorite anyway.

Day 1: Christian Bale cast as Steve Jobs
Day 2: Seth Rogen cast as Steve Wozniak
Day 3: Christian Bale withdraws from Steve Jobs movie
