My best guess is that apple found a way to make a device like this cheap enough to replace the shuffle. It would have a clip on the back to attach it to a pocket or band for a watch. Apple would probably also add little widget like apps to it (such as a watch display...) Not to mention if this was to replace the shuffle it wouldn't be as easy to loose as the shuffle :)

This could be the coolest watch ever !!!!

Actually, I just said a minute ago that's they'd do $100 Nano, $150 Touch.

But what if the iPod Touch follows the iPhone scheme of keeping last year's model around? What if they offer the "Retina-Display-Facetime iPod Touch" for $200 and the "old" iPod Touch for $100?

And this new thing is $60?

Then this new thing is the "new shuffle" and the old iPod Touch is the "new Nano."

the classic will get a big camera, front camera, maybe and wifi. maybe a speaker too. and a mic if it comes with a camera obviously. this is what will happen

That's insane. Why a camera and a front camera and wi-fi??

The only way I could imagine that stuff on the classic is if they make it an iPod Touch Classic with the internet and apps and stuff as well as the largest mini-drive underneath, so it would be a touch that is 2/3" thick.... might be coming, but I doubt it.

If they keep the classic and don't make it like a touch, I doubt they will add mics and speakers because the users of those tend to want a whole library on there and they jack it into larger stereos with dock systems and such.

The Classic is becoming an odd product. Soon the memory available for the price will out do the hard drive capacities. It's getting chopped this year, next year, or the year after.

The watch idea isn't a bad one I just hope it has 2 batteries or solar or a REALLY good battery. I do not want to wear two watches and/or charge my wrist watch every ~3 days.

Apple will *never* put a wrist band on a product. At best, the clip on the back will rotate so you can clip it onto a band around your wrist.

I don't think it's going to resemble a microscopic iPad. That rendering would look a lot better with regular iPod aluminum around it.

I don't think they'll discontinue the Classic until they've got a Touch with 128gb of memory. If they keep the Touch at 64, they'll have to keep the Classic for at least another year. If they do that, I can't see them putting a bunch of money and effort into it because it's eventually going to get dropped. I predict either a 128gb Touch or a 250+gb Classic on Wednesday.

Why are case manufacturers any type of reliable source... They feed of the rumors just as much... Do you think Apple tells case manufacturers the specs?

As far as this design goes... its ok...

TINY touchscreen... So no safari, no games, or apps like on your phone... It will have iPod only functions most likely. I could see the shuffle being removed, it was a dumb idea from the start no buttons, and I could see the nano getting changed in design and gaining a touchscreen but to make that tiny touchscreen work it could cause problems... It seems unlikely Apple would hold a event to keep the same design as far as the iPods go and just upgrade storage. I bet the touch and nano will be the only iPods after September 1st.

*Upgrade list and other notes.

**The Nano -

New design
better battery
touchscreen
smaller

**The touch -

$199.99 model

A4 processor
512Mb ram
16 maybe 32Gb capacity
No retina display.
Front facing camera.
Along with a slight design change.

299.99 Model
Same specs as above but
64GB capacity
Retina display

*There is no way Apple could put a A4, 512 Ram, front-facing camera, and retina display all for 199.99 thats why I say retina display only on 299 model.

**The Classic

-If they keep it...
-Design change to go along better with all the rest of the apple products, but still keep the classic look.
- 250GB?

I highly doubt the classic will be kept.

** Apple TV, no announcement will probably be done at another event dedicated to it.
***Notes on how many iDevices sold, how many songs downloaded, iPad success, iPhone 4 success, and iPod success.

These are my bets...

no shuffle, new classic with faces and square nano

I actually find it hard to believe that they are going to get rid of the wheel completely,it is still the symbol of the ipod, and many people find it very useful. I think that they could fuse the ipod nano and ipod shuffle into this square thing and fuse the nano and the classic into something with less capacity than the classic but with two cameras, or even wifi (so you have another gadget with faces) Maybe?

Let me blow everyone's mind for a sec - did anyone ever think that the back of the case is left open because that's where they're moving the click wheel?

People buy the nano and shuffle primarily for exercising. Apple wouldn't dare drop tactile controls for touch screen on these little devices.

Yes, people buy the shuffle for exercising. You know, that iPod without a clickwheel?

They're CURRENTLY selling a clickwheel-less iPod and people buy it for exercising. So how is that proof that a new iPod has to have a clickwheel?

That's why they have headphones with controls

i was joking about the front camera. but not everything else. the thing can have a great hi rez camera plus with all that memory it will hold them fine. maybe wifi. prob not. and mic and speaker seem like a must if it has a camera. maybe a fm radio like the current nano too?

The current iPod shuffle already lacks controls on the unit itself. The tactile controls moved to the earphone cord. They could easily do this for the iPod nano.

Also, there are other leaked case images that do not support your theory that the back has a clickwheel.

The clip is the correct assumption.

If they drop the shuffle for any reason I'm going to buy one to keep even if I don't need it and already own an iPod Nano and an iPhone 4.
