What do you think of the name iPad nano?

Apple is using the name ipod nano for this new ipod because of its size and because ipod shuffle were alway screenless. Although more ipod shuffle buyers will buy this, this pushes past ipod nano buyer to ipod touches.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A400 Safari/6531.22.7)

If this is the new nano, the shuffle dies. No room for them both if the nano is that small.

If the touch goes to 128 gb, the classic dies.

My prediction is both of those things happen, leaving us with only the nano and the touch, and an all touch-screen lineup.

Personally, I much prefer buttons on my workout iPod (currently a 2g shuffle). Touch is great for a phone, but I want to be able to control my workout iPod without looking at it.

For those that keep saying apple wouldnt introduce the AppleTV at this event...See septemeber 2006

You mean the one titled "It's Showtime"?

I dunno, personally I'm really REALLY hoping for some sort of device I can hook up to my TV to watch Hulu Plus on, but I'm doubting they'll do it at this event. Just because of the invite alone. I think it'll be all iPods, personally.

OK, my bets for Wednesday

iTunes - Brand new, lots of features, including AirTunes for streaming over the cloud!

*Shuffle* no change, not discussed

*Classic* Minimal change.

*Nano* Old design is gone, replaced by this device. Wifi for AirTunes.

*Touch* New design, cameras. Supports AirTunes and Facetime (PS-The nano does too-but at a much lower resolution-perfect for spy-like communicating!)

*iPad* Update in time for the holidays! Will get iOS4, front facing camera for facetime (no camera on the back). A few other new features that are minimal

OK, that's all...wait, one more thing-

iTV! Smaller, no spinning drive but small Flash drive. Streaming your media and runs iOS4. Will be getting apps to run iAd supported content from TV stations.

Sounds good to me.. I still have a feeling about iWatch though.

Sucks though because my shuffle is perfect for the Gym. I like having the buttons its easier to control while not looking at the device. Oh well I guess.

I think the iPod Classic will be gone, the iPod nano will stay with click-wheel and updated specs and probably design. The shuffle will have the same design but better specs. Updated touch with retina front-facing camera, a4, hopefully 128GB memory (to replace the Classic). And there will be a brand new iPod model with a brand new name, with 3cm-by-3cm touchscreen and 4-16GB storage, no Wi-Fi Possibly running an iOS version without app store, like iPhone OS 1.0 But without mail, safari, iTunes, .. But with a new designed iPod, clock, calculator, notes,...

:confused:Im still very confused about this being a NANO. I mean why would they introduce the camera as early as last year, only to make that obsolete. I'm thinking this will definitely be the new shuffle, based on the hardware and software issues of the previous shuffle. Just my opinon though.

My thoughts exactly. I can't see why they would remove the nano that's still evolving from their lineup. Isn't it the best selling ipod of all time? Think I read that somewhere. I still think this is a new shuffle, but guess we'll all have to wait and see. It doesn't seem to make sense at this stage though. Looking forward to the event.

If anything gets wait, one thing at an IPOD event, it would be an IPOD not something unrelated to the word IPOD.

Really? But an surprise IPOD at an IPOD event wouldn't be a very surprising IPOD. If it is an IPOD event, then wouldn't it be completely unexpected by people who aren't following rumors to have it not be an IPOD but something related to the IPOD via iTunes? I mean, more than just the IPOD use iTunes. Just because IPOD isn't in the name doens't mean that it couldn't be featured at an IPOD event, especially if they are all running the same iOS on the iTV and the new IPODs. Also, IPOD, IPOD, IPOD, IPOD!

IPOD!

iWatch would be cool.

No way. Watches are for lesbians, nerds, and medical staff... most people at work where one but I still refuse... I just use my phone. I hate watches and don't think it would sell well at all.

It would be cool, yes, but it wouldn't sell.

has anyone mentioned the possibility of this 3x3 screen being clickable like the trackpad of the Macbooks or the BlackBerry Storm screens?

Maybe this could help in the gym for those complaining about the use of touch screen rather than clickable scroll wheel. Click for play pause, maybe double click for forward or click near edge for FF etc? just a thought, I think I'd like it, especially since there are already physical volume keys.

I'm no expert or industry analyst, but here's what I think:

I doubt they would take something so drastically different from the current nano and still call it the nano. Maybe it's a new shuffle, or it could just be, let's say the iPod Micro. And no, there is no way any type of web browser could possibly work on that thing. I like the GUI presented on the "iWatch" mockup picture.

And I agree with people who say it's a bad move to remove all physical buttons-I actually despise my iPod touch and am going to immediately replace it once the new models come out, unless the new nano is a smaller touch, in which case I'll buy the old nano from eBay or something. I think I'm looking forward to Wednesday more for this event than for my first day of high school.

Watches are for lesbians? That's one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. :)

I really believe Apple will keep the shuffle, even if the nano is $100. The redesigned shuffle will be 3/4 the size, increase storage but the price will be slashed to $39 and $49. Apple won't walk away from the low-end cheap player market which is a money maker in volume. At this price point, we may even see special limited editions by artists and bands featuring download of latest album, collectable shuffles.

That's the only thing presented so far in this thread that i actually would buy. I'm pretty sure pulling out a phone to check the time is way nerdier than rocking a Rolex or a new G-Shock. You on acid or something?

A good question. It is likely related to cost and demand.

:confused:Im still very confused about this being a NANO. I mean why would they introduce the camera as early as last year, only to make that obsolete.
Maybe no body was using it. I don't mean you but the general user population. Besides if the expectation is that this replaces both the shuffle and the nano costs will have to be trimmed.
I'm thinking this will definitely be the new shuffle, based on the hardware and software issues of the previous shuffle. Just my opinon though.
I'm not to sure one way or the other. At some point though they will have to lower the cost of the nano. It is simply to expensive for what it is, an MP3 player. However a lower cost nano does limit the appeal of a device like the shuffle.

In any event my worry would be battery life in this little guy. A change in size to something smaller is actually better for the most part as long as the battery still last for a day or so.

I've never wished ill on Apple, but I do think that Cupertino is going to fail with this model. I really don't think the iPod buying public is at all interested in a Nano with a touch screen.

I actually had some serious intentions of buying the next gen Nano model and if this is what's released, I will not be getting it. I'll just go out and purchase last year's model and call it done.

Actually he is pretty much on target.

I really don't think much of people that wear watches myself. In this day and age it appears to be a vanity issue, rather than serving any real purpose. Certainly there are cases where a profession or activity can benefit from a watch but that is no justification for the average person to wear one.

As to your post your references to Rolex and G-Shock pretty much confirm my suspicions. It is all about jewelry and we all know who wears jewelry. Certainly not men that want to retain the respect of their peers.

I've already said this elsewhere, but I don't see them axing the Classic without bumping the Touch to 128 gb. The void created by going from 160 to 64 is too great.
