There is no point of lightning port in the monitor. But lightning to USB C can carry power and data. So whats your point?

You don't need a dongle.

Lightning is limited to 18W (so far). USB-C can carry at least 100W.

I’m obviously no engineer and I don’t mean to downplay the complexity of the TrueDepth camera system but seems to me like it’s just a matter of adjusting the pitch of the dots projected by the dot projector to maybe cover a wider angle?

I think if they do, it will be in the redesigned next iteration. It looks like the new iPad Pro has been redesigned with squarer edges to acommidate the wider USBC plug. This could be a sign of things to come for the next iPhone, back to the iPhone 4/5 square edges to acomódate USBC.
They aren’t going to redesign the form factor to accommodate a ******** plug.

I think external monitor support is much bigger than people here are caring for. Maybe added mouse and keyboard support can make this a better desktop alternative? I’m truly excited if it could support a ultrafine monitor

How about support for not just external monitors, but external multitouch monitors so developers and users don't have to be limited by the size of the iPad screen? Go to any location that has a large mounted interactive touchscreen and compare that to an iPad on a stand. Seriously? Do people honestly expect Apple to make a 40 inch iPad?

Face ID solved a lot of problems for and created no new ones

What problem did it solve that couldn't have been solve by other means?

Not quite. The problem was people hated bezels, vehemently. And then all of these full screen, slim bezel Android phones came out that pressured Apple to have to change a very outdated phone design. Apple got rid of bezels but needed a security solution comparable to Touch ID. And I think it's clear at this stage that Touch ID under the screen wasn't a viable option 2+ years ago when they were designing the X.

Agreed, I hate bezels too. But I love Touch ID. Would have been nice to see it on the back of the phone.

Am I the only one that likes to keep a sticker on the iPad camera when not in use?
Not very useful if you need to unlock with face-id.

By the way, who on earth needs to use an external monitor with an iPad?
The monitor would have to be a touch monitor to be even remotely useful/usable.
Anyway, what’s wrong with airplay? Just by yourself a cheap ATV2 if you need that functionality.

I manage about 400 Apple devices at work, and I keep trying to lure employees with ancient Dell computers to the iPad Pro, but as soon as they learn that they can't connect to their desktop monitors and use Excel and a mouse, they opt for a Microsoft Surface instead. I can't blame them. Such a feature isn't an engineering hurdle, especially when 99% of monitors in the work place are connected to an Apple TV. In the meantime, I keep buying $40 HDMI to Lightning dongles. Those silly things are stolen or lost daily.

Here's a feature that iPads do have built in that no-one wants... "Shake to Undo". That default feature has caused a few meltdowns where I work.

"Apple's iPad Pro models are rumored to feature edge-to-edge displays with no Home button, no headphone jack, and a USB-C port instead of a Lightning port."

I just bought the iPhone SE for the HP Jack/Home Button in lieu of the "new" iPhones. Will probably have to do the same when the "new" iPad Pro rolls out for the same reason. Here is to being "retro"

No they didn’t. It will have a lightning jack. And regardless, they didn’t say “we need usb-c, so let’s change the thickness and shape of the whole device to accommodate.”
No one knows anything for sure yet, so keep your panties on. But if these schematics are real, it sure looks like they changed it for usb. And that’s a good thing all around.

Maybe i'm the only one on his, but i hope this NOT to come...

Reason, is while iPad is big, and many can use in in landscape, and its a inconvenience to rotate it temporary , just to recognize your face, its just make makes more sense in portrait mode. Do people facetime in landscape mode as well then?

Cue the complaints that it won't be available on the iPhone, despite as noted, it would require new hardware to do so.
<rant incoming> It makes exactly zero sense that "Landscape FaceID" would require new, different or additional hardware to "Portrait FaceID". I know it's a strong statement to make, but this developer clearly doesn't know what they are talking about.

The hardware of FaceID is a 3d mapping sensor. That's it. Everything else is software. The sensor is not going to be affected by a rotated face. Software is needed to detect the orientation of the face, not hardware, and then software is needed to rotate the 3D face map before it is analysed, regressed and matched.

If Apple decide not to bring landscape unlocking to iPhone, then fine. I don't see that to be a huge inconvenience. But I don't think people should be trying to justify that as anything other than a usage design restraint implemented by Apple for whatever reason.

Apologies for rant.

Oh, and FWIW before someone asks, I am an Engineer, with a background in 3d mapping and pattern matching.

I wonder how much time and money Apple actually put into attempting to make FaceID work in landscape on the X... it is literally the only disappointment with the tech. So great to have my phone sitting on a wireless charger on my desk at work 2 feet from my face and tap the screen to have it unlock almost instantly when looking at it. Sucks when it doesn’t work when I leave it in landscape mode after watching a video...

Imagine an iPad that when docked using the smart connector it enables a monitor to be used and the iPad itself transforms into a keyboard and multitouch trackpad kind of like the bottom of a MacBook. the keyboard would allow for haptic feedback similar to what will be found on the iPhone XR to simulate key presses. the trackpad, if apple doesn't want to enable a cursor, could be more like the Apple TV touchpad. the iPad powers the monitor via usb c and charges itself using the monitor. when you are ready to go just lift the iPad from the smart connector dock, no need to plug any cables in.
