That's precisely the point. With a hard case, you can at least wipe it with a sanitizer or wipe with a moist cloth from time to time. This one is going to look like a bathroom mat that's never been laundered full of dirt, grime, sweat, dead skin, blood, and everything else you can imagine.
You have heard of soap and water haven’t you? It’s fabric…..WASH IT

Apple, nobody wants this nonsense. We want genuine leather back.

Your bullcrap claim that leather is somehow bad for the environment is absolutely unfounded, and we’re calling your bluff.

Give us good products. Give us leather.

They look like they were designed for a grandparents house
OMG that's it! And they need to be covered with the clear plastic cover to protect it and keep it clean, until guests come over.

Also good if the vice president drops by ;)

Still with the TechWoven?!
At least this gives some third-parties a chance to sell some decent leather cases.
I’ve gotten some good quality ones for my 16 Pro from Belemay.

Apple is designing new "TechWoven" cases for the iPhone 17, with photos of some of the alleged case colors shared today by leaker Majin Bu.

The cases feature a muted, fabric design in colors that appear to include black, blue, green, purple, and orange. The TechWoven cases will reportedly replace the fabric-like FineWoven casesthat Apple discontinued with the iPhone 16 launch. The FineWoven cases were not popular with customers due to their penchant for staining and issues with durability. The fabric of the TechWoven case has supposedly been "redesigned for greater durability."

Majin Bu claims that the cases will include metallic buttons with "improved tactile feedback," a Camera Control button, MagSafe compatibility, and two small holes at the bottom for attaching a crossbody strap or accessories. The cases appear to be for the iPhone 17 Pro models that are rumored to have a horizontal camera bar given the size of the camera cutout, but Bu says the TechWoven cases will be available for all of the iPhone 17 models.

It is unclear as of yet if these cases are real, but we will find out in less than a month when Apple unveils the new iPhone 17 models.

Hideous. Bring back leather. Leather is durable and easy to clean.

I'm all for fabric cases (Peak Design HELLO)

But these look dirty already... Also is there really a camera control button? He only shows the case from the other side, and the front looks like it dips into the camera control button.

Cases look amazing. Hopefully not too much added bulk…definite crunchy Vermont hippie vibes….almost corduroy-ish. Fabric feel though yeah…that’d have to take getting used to for real..

Are you serious? Our phones in general are as unsanitary as a public toilet seat and you are worried about these cases??? 😂

Speak for yourself, I douse mine in alcohol everytime I get back in lol

Vegan leather options have improved considerably over the last several years. I don’t begrudge Apple for toying with cloth options like luxury vehicle manufacturers have of late. However vehicle manufacturers always have a vegan leather option to fall back on if you don’t want cloth or wool.

Ah! There’s that magical V word I was looking for. Haha the dreaded V word more like it. In my experience with an outright vegan leather polymer coat by Tommy Hillfigger…after a solid year /half of wearing the coat it was all peeling and done for…durability was def an issue no doubt.

Vegan is such a dirty word tho haha. Plant based is much better no doubt.

It's cloth because they wrap their power coords in cloth, so they can buy in massive amounts to save money...thats what informed the decision. They can play it off like some sort of design language, but it is not.

Wait wut? Wrap power cords in cloth? Isn’t that a fire hazard?…please exaplain haha peace

Yeah everyone should definitely be sanitizing phone anyways

For those of you who need to hear it, it should be abundantly clear at this point that Apple will never re-introduce leather cases. Stop asking for them because they’re not coming back. You can always buy a third-party case if you want leather.

Great post. Yeah. The complaints do nothing. End of an era. I’m curious if they tried doing leather way back in the day and Steve was like hell no!!! Hahah that’d be legendary…because wasn’t he Buddhist (or somehow related to Buddhism i heard no?..)

I don't mind fabric as an option alongside leather, but what I do mind is those colors. TERRIBLE. They look like they have been through the laundry for ten years and gotten dull and lifeless. Horrible.

You’re not diggin the earthy crunchy vibes??…I think it’s a great contrast to new iOS 26 liquid glass look. Heaven on earth etc…

They don't look very sanitation-friendly.

Probably wouldn't want to be holding someone else's phone that has one of these on it. Probably not even good for the owner.

Don't the designers at Apple think about these kinds of issues?
All of my cases have my germs on them. The same germs.

The Apple logo gets less pronounced as you proceed from left to right in the image of the cases. It’s almost invisible in the case on the far right.

There's something really weird with that photo. Based on the apparently debossed Apple logo, and the reflection on the background, the light source is to the left. That should explain why the logos appear more obviously on the left. But if you look at the shadow in the camera bump opening on the far right, there's also a strong, sharp light source on the right. That should make the logo appear like it does on the left, but it doesn't.

I opened the photo in Photoshop to take a close look, and either there was some cloning of the background, or it's a laminate table/floor that has really weirdly repeating pattern. Or the image could have a background that's been through some kind of AI to extend/fill portions of the canvas. Because there's a lot of repeated patterning in that pretend wood.

Looking at the cases themselves, it's really hard to tell with a surface that seems to have a manufactured texture, one that's supposed to appear like a woven fabric, whether something has been cloned or generated. If they are real, it's already a mostly regular pattern that has lots of variation. So hard to tell if the image has been messed with or even created from whole cloth (no pun intended).

To me, they appear real. But there are weird things with the photo I can't explain. The vertical photo, showing the sides of the cases, looks much more natural. And the colors are darker and more saturated.

These are ugly as sin. I really hope they’re fake.

One of the things I always dislike with the launch of the new phones is the onslaught of boring and miserable colours we get every September. We have to wait for spring if we want something that isn’t one of 50 shades of brown, navy blue or dull as dishwasher grey.

I guess the exception was the ultra marine and star fruit silicone cases last year. But those were too garish for my taste.

I guess what I want is a pop of colour but done tastefully. And not something that makes the phone look like an IBM relic. Guess I’m just picky 🤣

I think plant-based and vegan are synonymous but I believe the vegan leather term has been tainted by early options that had bad durability and off-gassed weird odors.

Yeah, why "don't the buyers of cases think about these kinds of issues?"

I beat iPhone Pros hard, and caseless iPhone Pros have done fine since at least the 14 Pro. iPhone Pros are tough. And you could bathe them every day if you cared about that kind of thing [I don't].

Plastic or rubber options you mean. "Vegan Leather" are fancy words to charge more for plastic.
