thats not what i mean tho. my sister for example can set different led colors for different nots. e. g. fb blinks blue, sms green etc. that way u know what u got without turning the phone on. the one on the iphone is pointless bc it only flashs once u get the text and doesnt blink til u read it

seriously do we really need to know EVERY single possible detail about the next iPhone or whatever product before its launch?? How bout you just let the Sept 12 event happen and move on to other stories. What is the point of this?

Welcome to MacRumors.

edit: what apolloa said.

I promise frank, this is the next iPhone. You have to understand that this will likely be the BIGGEST consumer product launch in history, so they have to make millions and millions of these. Along with the shrinking size of these types of devices, it's completely understandable that some of the 30-60 pieces of the multi-million production will leak. It's impossible to do otherwise unless they move back to the original iPhone strategy of announcing 6 months early, showing just a prototype off on stage, and THEN putting in the order for 22 million...

I don't see this selling as a lot of people are expecting, most people are still running 4S's and aren't eligible and those who have a 4 probably have jumped ship due to the wait

I am excited to see the new iPhone and what they have to offer. However it will be disappointing if they only make the screen longer and not wider. The standard for many devices today is approx 4 inch or above. Its funny to see people argue the droid vs iPhone saga. IMO iPhone does simplistic well. The mail program and texting functions are hard to beat. However, having a closed platform does have some drawbacks for those super users who want more from a phone. That's where droid excels. With the battery life getting better on droid along with feature sets it does make ie galaxy 3 an attractive device. I think even die hard apple fans can see that.
Apple needs to step up it's game with the new device and it will be interesting to see what is reveled.

As a side note....I love apple and all it's products. I have used the iPhone since day one. However I would have a tough time sticking with the device without using the jailbreak features on a daily basis. Without the jailbreak the iPhone would only be so so for my personal usage. Again iPhone right out of the box does simplistic well. Simplistic has a market to itself.

How do you change the best, most popular and successful phone on the planet? Like the Porsche 911; incrementally, deliberately, carefully. Refinement and planning are key. That's how you build a great product and a great brand.

A phone isn't a car. If Apple kept the same phone design for 10 years with only minor changes, few people would keep buying them.

I still say the top row will be a static notification/widget area that developers can utilize for their apps. Swipe left or right to see the news headlines, weather, sports, etc. this keeps the general look the same to appease the diehards and adds a limited widget function for those that want that. Since it would be a standard size in a standard location it fits perfectly well with Apple philosophy. Take a look at the Samsung Continuum, an older Galaxy Android phone on Verizon to get an idea of what I am thinking. This will be the one more thing for the iOS 6 announcement.

That was amazingly rational, what are you doing here?

Just curious, but what do you run with your jail broken phone?

Why would u want different colored flashing led lights? Just pick up your phone and click the home button to see notifications. Easy thing to do than have fisher price lights flashing.

It had better break all the sales records, or Apple will have really lost it's mojo.

Although I see your point (I'm an iPhone 4 user who'll be moving platforms) I can't imagine too many people jumping ship. Apple does everything it can to lock in their users.

not when your phone is on the opposite of the room and it has nothing to do with "fisher price" :p every bberry has it too, and isnt that a "business device" and yep even samsung which shall not be named on here got it

would be neat on the home button for example

A. WAY FEWER people even care about any particular new android phone model being released

B. WAY MORE iPhones are being secretly produced prior to launch than any particular new android phone model

your making an extremely poor comparison

Did I press someone's buttons today? You could've been a little bit nicer.:)

A. VERY FEW people care about the new iPhone or a new Android phone. The average person doesn't come on rumor sites and read up on the latest gadget.

B. QUESTION: How do you know what goes on in Apple's, Samsung's, or Motorola's labs? How do you know Motorola isn't beta testing 20 Android devices right now? Answer: YOU DON'T.

Try again.

Quote me: this will be the biggest iPhone launch yet.

This will be (and honestly why I think the 4s was) because of the amount of countries it will be available in within the first month. Tim Cook is a supply chain genius, and was his main job up until Steve started getting sick. Since he has become CEO, both the iPhone 4S and iPad 3 rollout was the fastest yet (somebody double check me just to be sure), which results in "record shattering launches." It causes a sheer drop off in sales after a couple months because of the market being saturated so quickly, but man does it cause huge launch buzz.

I use mywi daily, text on lock screen daily, lock info, notifier, to just name a few...sooooo much more...trunk movies to my apple tv using uwatch.

Without jailbreak iPhone would do none of this. The ease of turning on my phone without having to actually go into feature sets is well worth the jailbreak. How about answering text messages from the lock screen?

Steve would have never allowed this, and after Tim saying he was doubling down on security, i seriously don't think this will be the new iPhone at all, we will all be amazed on Sep 12th.
This, The iphone 5 will likely look totally different then what we're seeing.

It will sell like mad of course but to my eye it looks too tall. It would have been nice had they reduced the size of the top and bottom areas and made the home button a thinner shape or got rid of it all together.

Anyone remember the "real" first iPhone by Cisco? I can't help but think of this when I see the new one. Like the idea has come full circle.

I agree. Also AT&T has said that if you want to keep you unlimited data plan then you have to purchase the new iPhone at full price. I'm not sure if people will want to fork out that much cash at once for a phone.
