Just did some calculations on screen size.
The upcoming Galaxy Note 2 is 5.5" which makes it 4.8 x 2.65 = 12.92 inches area assuming 16:9 which is the rumored aspect.
The S3 comes in at 4.8" which results in 4.18 x 2.35 = 9.83 inches screen area.
iPhone 5 is 4" and 16:9 making it 3.49 x 1.96 = 6.83 inches area.
iPhone 4/4s is 3.5 diagonal at 3:2 making it 2.9 x 1.94 = 5.65 square inches of display.
So the largest smartphone gives about 13 square inches of screen, the S3 nearly 10", while the iPhone 5 only gives about 7" and the current small screen only about 5 and half inches of display.
Those are not small differences (except between iPhone models). And, if you're concerned about size, just draw the dimensions on a piece of paper and you'll find the MASSIVE Note, really is just size of a mid-sized calculator.
This is why I'm so disappointed. I love using my iPhone, and yes I talk on it, but mainly I read and communicate with it. The screen is important and Apple has dropped the ball where I'm concerned.
...they are not going to be offering a phone comparable to other top of the line smart phones.
... Forcing in the sense that I'd love to stay with Apple if they offered something better than the competition.....
I want it to EXCITE me. I'm at five years of living with iOS, now, and it's comfortable and familiar and useful and...
...unexciting. Ordinary. Commonplace.
It's just a fact of life for a successful mature product.
I want what Cook promised - I want my mind blow - unless they're holding something amazing back, this phone ain't gonna do it.
These leaks are happening because the manufacturing facilities Apple uses are not owned by Apple, not run by Apple employees. The Chinese workers have no vested interest in Apple as a company, no allegiance. To be honest, I'm not even sure if setting up an Apple-owned facility in China would stop it. They have a culture there of not respecting copyright.
The only way to stop the massive amount of leaks is to bring manufacturing back to America under Apple-owned roofs.
iPhone is the best, there are no other top line smart phones. There are a lot of other good phones but none are the best.
Again, iPhone is the best and superior than all the competitions.
So, based on your two statements above, you must stay with iPhone, no buts about it.
The only reason why your swaying to cheaper commodity phone is because of all that bells and whistles, which is nothing but a way to confuse the consumer and only works with ignorant buyers. Apple's iPhone is designed perfectly to be fully functional for everyone's day to day business.
Do I have to explain what a metaphor is?
I guess so. Forcing, by which I mean they are not going to be offering a phone comparable to other top of the line smart phones. Forcing in the sense that I'd love to stay with Apple if they offered something better than the competition.....
Well the first iPad didn't have camera or a high-res display, so essentially they had no choice but to add both. The iPhone had a camera in the first model and the iPhone 4 gained a front camera and high res display. Now that it already has stuff like that, internals are the only things they can really revamp (aside from improving the camera optics, etc).
Let's see:
- New screen with several new technologies possible including in-cell, IGZO and gorilla glass 2.
- New housing with full metal back. 1.2mm thinner.
- New battery with a different chemistry.
- LTE
- First non refresh iOS device with 32nm processor. All rumors say more than just an A5 die shrink.
- New dock connector.
- New headphone jack location.
- FaceTime camera moved.
- Thinner top and bottom bezels.
- New smaller SIM standard.
- Possible NFC.
- Possible 1GB RAM.
This is the most drastic generational change since it launched. I don't know what else you guys are expecting, and neither do you. Everyone fails to come up with an answer as to what would constitute a drastic change except a huge screen. Well, that's a user preference thing. Not everyone is going to be receptive to a 4.7" screen coming from a 3.5" screen so get over that idea.
It's funny. People ask for a larger screen, yet complain when they finally add one. Apple can't win.

Don't forget it being 7.6mm - thinner than rivals like the S3.

Apple takes care of me, my wants, and my future, others just want to empty your pocket for every penny you got by selling you trash!

I really don't like this option for an iPhone. Apple's argument about large screen is valid, it's hard to use the phone with one hand, but maybe some people don't mind that. Not sure why there can't be few options? iPod had different sizes, iMacs did, MacBooks. Why iPhone is limited to one option?
I understand the whole philosophy of Apple's simplicity and design, but the competition will not leave Apple handing out at the top.
I've been using Nexus for two month now, and the only thing that I REALLY love, is THE SCREEN. Apple really can't overlook this.
A phone isn't a car. If Apple kept the same phone design for 10 years with only minor changes, few people would keep buying them.
I agree this is why to me what comes next is more important in my opinion to the iPhone 5 then if the screen is bigger. I expect a true game changer feature with next iPhone.

Basically a mouse with a touch screen
iPhone is the best, there are no other top line smart phones.
thats not what i mean tho. my sister for example can set different led colors for different nots. e. g. fb blinks blue, sms green etc. that way u know what u got without turning the phone on. the one on the iphone is pointless bc it only flashs once u get the text and doesnt blink til u read it
It never, ever included "the latest of the latest" though.
Would have to disagree...the iPhone is not even 4g yet....it will be but apple behind slightly on some things.
