...It amazing me the amount of Apple brainwashing I'm reading in this thread.

No, amazingly people are actually publicly stating that they do not want the option to replace a battery...

Even more amazing, really, is that the option of a user replaceable battery is discussed as a selling point or put forth as a reason to buy something (or not). I've had to actually replace a battery once in 15 years, and to do it, I went to the vendor outlet and said "fix it", which they did. Problem solved. A user replaceable battery doesn't make it onto my list of must haves, but never has, regardless of the phone manufacturer.

The same works in reverse. After a few days with an iPhone the GS3 will seem huge and awkward! ;)

TRUE. But generally it's harder to go smaller than larger. My Point is two fold. Look at the non apple market - the vast majority of buyers are opting for 4.3 to 4.8 (not larger or smaller). That has to tell us something.

Second, if apple offered two phones - one with say a 4.5 inch, i would Bet the larger sells more. (that is not a given - some will want a smaller iPad if offered, some will want an 11inch vs 13 inch MacBook air. But that is what the rest of the market is showing us.)

Are we sure about that? Do the "vast majority" of non-Apple buyers go for massive screens? I mean, sure, the high profile devices are all trending that direction but the majority of Android phones being sold are not GS3s or Galaxy Notes - they are the lower end handsets, often carrying smaller screens.

As to the fact that those buying high end Android phones tend to be buy the larger screen models, well, what options do they have? No high end Android phones are coming out with smaller screens.

I think you need to be very careful comparing things like this. The huge screen thing is a current trend. Not long ago the trend was towards tiny phones. Then the trend was towards more and more megapixels. You get trends and fashions all the time and they always end. I get the feeling these massive screened phones will be just like those tiny phones and those huge megapixels - we'll come to a point where we look back and wonder what we were thinking!

The most amazing thing being a few people actually saying the don't want a replaceable battery!

I mean they are not saying They would only like a replaceable battery if it had no effect on the build, or they would only want one, if it was done in a very neat Apple way, or that they would only want one if it had no impact of size/weight etc etc.

No, amazingly people are actually publicly stating that they do not want the option to replace a battery.

I mean how jaw dropping is that?

The funny and sad thing is, watching these same people BIG UP a future iPhone if, by some means it did have a replaceable battery.

As an Iphone user it would be great to have a replaceable battery, most days I can just plug it in overnight but for whatever reason you cant always have time to plug it in, I hate not being able to use the internet or what have you just because the battery is going to run out. I also know that this will not ever happen anytime soon but the option would be great.

Its the same ppl on here that are saying that the huge bezel on the top and bottom is a "feature"!?!?!?!

I love Apple products but phone wise its just down to choice between this and androids now, they both have good points. For the moment ill stay with Apple but wheres the wow factor that they used to be? They have the resources to deliver the wow factor, hope they dont get too lazy in the future.

And yes ill get stupid replies from the fanboys about this post

I must say tho I am really looking foward to the unibody metal case. To be fair thats class leading but not everything else (im not saying there are overall better phones yet out there dont take it the wrong way, but they could do with a kick up the arse and not take everyone for granted)

You could say the same thing about those saying things like "I don't want to be able to use my phone with one hand!".

But, of course, when someone says they don't want a user replaceable battery they're not saying they actively want there not to be one. They're mostly saying it isn't something they actively desire. Also, a user replaceable batter that doesn't add size and weight and doesn't effect the build quality and what have you is effectively impossible. If we're to say we want something impossible, why stop at that? I want a battery that never needs recharging! Not going to happen of course, but then nor is a user replaceable battery that doesn't impact other aspects of the phone.

That this only improves on 2-3 specific things - everything else will be just as bad or worse in landscape-mode. In some cases you might even see less of a page (like cycomiko pointed out).

Do you know for sure they didn't thought about this? The company that has built its success on interface design and user experience forgot to think its most successful product has 2 view modes?

I wrote a fairly long post about why those spaces above and below the screen are there and they are absolutely there by design.

This is what I wrote:

"The spaces above and below the screen aren't there by accident. They perform a very important job - well, several.

When you hold the phone in one hand with the bottom corner of the device pressed into the middle of your palm (that's a fairly standard way to hold something like this), you'll notice that the joint where your thumb joins your hand is basically level with the bottom edge of the screen. This means you can reach down and across the screen easily, accessing the dock and other buttons that will be low on the screen. Now, try to reach lower than that. You'll probably find that, even if you have decent motility in your hand, reaching much below that point starts to take some effort. It feels less comfortable and, more importantly, a thumb pulled so far down is far less mobile and can't easily be used to interact with the screen. If that space below the screen wasn't there, that's where you would have to reach down to in order to use your phone - and that would be a very bad design.

The same argument works when you hold the phone in two hands in landscape. Hold your phone in landscape and imagine the screen went all the way to the edge. Now, imagine that the lower right and left corners contained a virtual stick and some buttons respectively. Now try to reach them with your thumbs. Uncomfortable, right? But your thumbs rest comfortably on the lower corners of the screen precisely because of those spaces.

There are various other benefits. A nice grip space for holding the handset in landscape when holding it up, maybe above your head. A space to grip the phone will handing it to someone or taking it from that person without touching the screen.

The front panel of a smartphone is not just about output - the screen is only one element. Those top and bottom spaces are there for the purposes of ergonomics and you'd notice if they weren't."

What is it about this you don't agree with?

Also, "huge"? On the 4s those spaces are about 1.5cm each. On the new one they're even smaller. I don't know if I would call less than 15mm "huge".

Ok your point is valid but if there was an option for a replaceable battery and it was a mil or two bigger im sure it would be popular.
(This is all hypothetical tho as we all know that Apple wouldnt release another version with a replaceable battery.)

The thing is though, that the people calling for options by and large keep saying "Android has this that & the other resolution. The Samsung Galaxy S3 does this that & the other. etc. etc."

So really, there's your answer. If you want a truck-load of options and themes and user-configurable widgets and all that crap, then buy one of the many, many phones out there that already offers you all that!?!

Apple have always had an extremely limited range of products because they take the line that if you get it right, you shouldn't need a range of 20 handsets.

I'm not against options, I'm against the notion that Apple need to implement things to satisfy the 0.01% of people who want Apple be a company they're quite simply not.

This should be copy/pasted in every thread. In addition to this, I'm against change for the sake of change. Too many people in this country will take a design and get sick of it and want it changed just for the sake of it. that's how the auto manufacturers have been doing it and you always see a design get really good then they go and change it the next year, ruining it.

I hope so. If this is really it then I will be using my 4S for a lot longer.

I skipped the 4S because I was on a two-year contract. I skipped the 3GS for the same reason. I will upgrade this year, and skip next year's model.

The iPhone '5' will be a best seller whether 4S-users upgrade early or not.

When I have used another phone with a smaller bezel I have never had a problem with it tho. I have never used another phone for an extended period of time tho since the iphone has come out so maybe there is a little bit of truth but I do think the top and bottom bezel is excessive and if it were smaller it would look alot better. I think its a great phone overall but it does look a bit funny the length. Thats all Im saying

Iphone is My phone I dont care about yours!

All these silly arguments about iphone vs android. Why is everyone upset over the choice of phone an individual decides to spend their money on? Personally I like the iphone because I own an imac, ipad, macbook air, Apple Tv & I guess I'll throw the ipod in there too! even though I rarely use it. I'm an apple fan. Not a fan boy. Not a fanatic. I just love the fact that they have simple to use products. the UI on the iphone IS a simplistic design and that's EXACTLY why I use it. I like android phones as well, however there's a lot more to tinker with and as I said, I like simple. Its a matter of opinion people. Get over it already...PS: the only way I'd give up on my iphone is if I'm ever in financial trouble. Then I may go android pre-pay all the way.

It really looks as though Apple will be boring yet another year. Last year's minor upgrade to the 4S was poor, and if this is the new iPhone 5 or whatever, it looks to be as dull. I understand new iOS, quad core and more ram maybe, but the screen is a minor bump, the design and feel of iOS is getting boring. I really hope they have something super up their sleeves, and this is all just to fool us.

I am a Apple FanBoy for sure, but it is just like driving the same car for 10 years, sure it works and does what you need it to, but there is a point in where everyone else is getting great features with the new model, and you are stuck with a hum drum list of old outdated features. I do not think I can make a move to Android, but I seriously have to tell you that some guys in my IT office have gone from the iPhone to the Samsung GSIII and what a phone it is, fast, smooth, loaded with new toys, and just nice to use.

C'Mon Apple Thrill us, we are all "rooting" well Jailbreaking for ya :D

How do you know they did? Or that they did and decided to make a compromise? We'll see the implementation of this when it's released - the statement here is that 16:9 screen on a mobile device has some (major in my view) drawbacks.

I don't know. I mean, you can pick up recharging packs that you can use to pep up your battery when you need to, right? How is a replaceable battery (which the vast majority will never have a spare for, believe me; I used to work in a phone shop and people almost never bought spare batteries) any better than that?

Yeah, of course. All design decisions are open for debate. I'm just saying that it absolutely IS a feature. There is very little that's arbitrary about Apple's designs. We're talking here about a team of designers that uses lasers to create microscopic holes in the front of MacBooks for the activity LED!

And that isn't to say they don't make mistakes. They're human and they make errors. But those errors will be due to active choices, not arbitrary choices.

people are psyching themselves out with each new leak.. they have such an isolated way of thinking, they don't possibly conceive that these are controlled leaks of past prototypes. Leaks to take speculators on a wild detour.

So they subconsciously allow themselves to accept that this is what the new phone will look and be like, just bc thats what's in front of them. You're taking the easy way out by not applying critical thinking here.

If I'm correct about the financial markets crashing around october this year, then I'm correct about this.

You must look at the past, and must look at the trends and ask yourself.. is this truly a final apple product design that meets what they have been innovating since the first ipod.

To me it's obviously a definite no. Why? well, well... do some serious thinking. All this speculation is good for apple even though it won't be the new iphone. It's revving everyone up and for what, a huge surprise. Tim Cook is a fantastic CEO and when he says he's crackin down on secrecy he means it. It's right there, but no you guys would rather believe in crazy leaks that just so happens to come out in a consistent manner each with new parts from different vendors rather than believing the CEO who is all knowing in this company.

I don't mind being wrong, it humbles me and helps me learn, but no. I am not wrong here, not on this one.

You are naive, narcissistic, and egotistical.

...per your post's title

I think all these parts are nothing like the new iphone 5, the new phone will be completely different and all these parts and case companies are going to lose big money on all these fakes. Apple will release a totally different phone than all these fake parts

So... do you have a medical marijuana card or are you just smoking something for the hell of it?

These leaks are getting out of hand. Has Apple really lost it's way that much since Steve Job's death? It's week after week of iPhone parts. They need to clamp down on this or there wont be any surprises in the future...

I wish i could screencap all these comments and make a collage of them then post it on september 12th.

Where were you on the iphone 4, and iphone 4s? Every single detail was known before launch. This is nothing new. In fact the entire iPhone 4 got leaked well before launch on Steve's watch.
