So we will have black bars just like we have to see when watching movies on the phone? Wow, that's going to make a lot of people happy, and more reason to worry about image burn in if you play a lot of games.

I still can't believe all this. I really do hope it is all bull.

Just make a freakn 4 or 5 inch screen with the same resolution of the 4s. It will still look awesome and no app confusion in the store, and still make a 3.5 screen for all of us who don't want something larger. Nintendo 3ds, now 3ds xl for the bigger kids :) Seems to work for Ninentdo to not F with their tried and true resolution numbers.

Eventually all the apps will convert.. That's what happens when things change, time for the developers to adapt. Apple isn't making two different phones. That's not how they operate. Also, the 16:9 resolution is fine, the wider phones are bulkier.

Apple is going to reward the people that saw this improper design and yet still didn't switch to samsung bc deep down they knew apple had something great lined up.

Think of it as an investment. Warren buffet gave shares of BH to his kids, and they all sold them and missed out on millions and millions. He knew it was there choice to sell or keep them and they chose to sell.

Here Tim cook stated the doubling down on secrecy, right there is a hint. another hint is the fact that apple is just awesome, plain and simple.. and you know what's not awesome, this design. Yet u fools think this is the final product. Ohhh how oblivious some of u are.

Do not ever doubt apple bc they are king. A whole new redesign set to surprise everyone and it is right around the corner. If you switch out to another phone, then u deserve to miss out on the fireworks.

So Apple spent 10's ($100's maybe) of thousands of dollars to fab a complete set of iPhone parts that are completely fake....just to mislead us all? What are you smoking? I don't think you realize what goes into producing these parts.

Hrrrmmmm. How do you increase a diagonal measurement without increasing the screen in 2 dimensions?

I think you mean the overall width of the phone has not changed...

Erm?

AreYouOnCrack.jpg

Which is longer? The green or blue lines, inside the boxes of the same width.

exactly.

- Choice of two or three screen sizes (iPhone 3GS,iPhone 4/4s, new iPhone)
- Super AMOLED display (retina)
- Gorilla Glass II (lol)
- Removable battery (cereal?)
- microSD card (lmao)
- LTE (+1)
- NFC(+2)
- Better multitasking ((ios 7?)
- 2GB RAM(ios doesnt need as much ram as android!)
- Resolution independent UI (no,)
- Wi-Fi Direct ( airplay been have it!)
- hi res front facing camera (it is happening)
- USB storage (why not)

- iPhone 5 is a rumor, but in any case 4" is not much more choice. Android offers up to 5.3"
- iPhone retina is still old tech backlit LCD with old its shorcumings
- What's "airplay"? New Apple phone? :)
- Sure, iOS doesnt need as much RAM as android, cause it can't multitask :)
- iOS7 is viporware
- iphone hi res front facing camera, NFC, LTE are only rumors, while Android phones had this for a year.

Highly Controlled Leaks, or another Apple Blunder?

I would love to believe that the final version of the next iPhone won't reflect the rather unimpressive leaks that have been dripping through recently but history paints a very different picture. As a developer I am also having a difficult time in understanding the full rationale behind a minor increase in screen height, and subsequent change in aspect ratio when viewed across the broad scale of implications this will have to users, developers and the ecosystem.

We can look at this from so many angles, and with every perceivable benefit of this screen size there are many other shortcomings far outweighing the gains.

Not only would the proposed resolution fall short of 720p spec, but it's not even true 16:9 (arguably the main benefit of the possible screen size). Further fracturing of the app ecosystem requiring more developer resources to ensure app viewing compatibility across devices and the inability for native apps built only with 1136 x 640 pixel support to even play at 2x resolution on retina iPad's (2272 pixels would exceed retina iPad screen res) are some of the drawbacks.

No need for a space shuttle nor for a new design. Just give us a few things Andoid phones enjoy:

- Choice of two or three screen sizes Would cause fragmentation.
- Super AMOLED display I don't know much about this, but if it is better, then sure.
- Gorilla Glass II If it's better, sure.
- Removable battery Absolutely not.
- microSD card I'd like this too, but it would make it bulkier. I don't care about bulk, but others do.
- LTE I don't want LTE, but it's useful for some, and they are adding it for sure.
- NFC Why?
- Better multitasking I agree that we need this, but later. Once people run into the limitations of an isolated app system, this has to be fixed.
- 2GB RAM Totally useless.
- Resolution independent UI No need for this.
- Wi-Fi Direct Already exists.
- hi res front facing camera Also already exists.
- USB storage Nah. You'd need a dongle. If anything, MicroSD and nothing else. Or are you talking about using the iPhone as a USB storage device? That would be useless.

Replies are in bold. I wish there was a better way to do this because I don't like putting myself in bold. It seems too arrogant.

That could pay off. Imagine if you were reading these rumors, as you are, and the iPhone 5 finally came out. It looks completely different from the rumors and is very unexpected. You'd have to at least try it out, right?

Of course, this would only work once. Then when the next iPhone is coming out, nobody would believe the rumors, and Apple would have killed the rumor sources. This would be good, but if Apple comes out with an iPhone that matches the rumors, then it's just even more boring.

Even if you play it out, Apple would not make these fakes unless someone very incompetent was in charge.

Unfortunately, the iPhone 5 is only longer and not wider. Also, Steve was a big part of the decision on the design.

For me, the new Galaxy Note 2 sounds pretty sweet. On the 29th, we shall see...

WHY? You've just said you want MicroSD!

A few points...

Sigh...

1. Admittedly from the sketchy poorly taken photos/mock ups it isn't the greatest looking iPhone... however I'll wait to pass judgement until it's in my hand.
2. Since when did everyone become design experts? Apple have possibly the best design team in the world, headed by a man who's work has been at the highest level for over 15 years... he and they spend years perfecting and agonising over design and yet people on this forum think they can pass judgement on a product that they've never held or touched in the time it takes to make a post...
3. The idea that "Steve would never have allowed this..." is nonsense... Apple have more than likely been developing this phone for years and no doubt Steve was involved in this product in some way. Steve Jobs was genuis, the best... however the last thing he would want is for people to use the phrase "what would Steve do..." Apple will go nowhere by looking backwards.
4. You don't have to buy this phone... Apple's ethos is that they want to make products that people love... if people don't love them then they wont buy them, if people don't buy them then they'll change them. If the iPhone 5 is as awful as everyone is making out then things will change but I predict it will be a huge success and Apple will carry on down this design route.
5. If this new design makes you that angry then step away from your computer, put some shoes on and go for a walk... enjoy your life instead of crying on your trackpad... there's more to life than worrying about 4" displays.

Apple will never make what you want. They will make what you need and for the most people these are completly different things.

I dont want different screen sizez, gadgets, removable batterys and external storage, i want things to be simple. Because you see, when you want a SD slot, what you actualy admiting is that your phone have not suficient memory. When you ask for a USB, you are admiting that your phone lacks conectivity. When you ask for bigger display you are admiting that you cant see many stuffs on the screen which you want actualy to see. When you say you need replaceable battery you are admiting that the battery is bad. All those problems must be resolved but no the way you think they have to be resolved.

Do you by any chance work for Samsung? Because most of your requests surely sound like crap. Removable battery and super AMOLED and USB storage? Who freakin cares? You want Apple to change the complete design to serve some 10% of their users who need a removable battery? Hell, with my old phones (which also ran out of battery quickly) I never owned an extra battery pack. And a micoSD in a phone? What the heck.

If anything, I hope you never design or work on anything a consumer has to use.

....

umm...well..

Samsung Galaxy S3 has more stuff than a swiss army knife...

Try telling Apple that..... They don't wanna know about external features directly on an iphone...

Who likes to use dongles hanging off your device ? Its a shortcut to me.

I mean, I like Apple just as the next person does, but really... if it can be proven by other companies with a slimmer design, then it can be done.

Seems like Apple only cares about quality alone, then they do ports...also gives them a change to make extra $$ by selling a dongle.

When HDMI wasan't on the Retina MBP for example, people asked "wheres the HDMI" ... now its on there... people change their tune and are glad..

same with mobiles too. .... its more convient to have a USB connector on a Samsung Galaxy SIII than having to carry that dongle u know you are going to loose someday.

Man, some people are really against others having a desire for options.

The thing is though, that the people calling for options by and large keep saying "Android has this that & the other resolution. The Samsung Galaxy S3 does this that & the other. etc. etc."

So really, there's your answer. If you want a truck-load of options and themes and user-configurable widgets and all that crap, then buy one of the many, many phones out there that already offers you all that!?!

Apple have always had an extremely limited range of products because they take the line that if you get it right, you shouldn't need a range of 20 handsets.

I'm not against options, I'm against the notion that Apple need to implement things to satisfy the 0.01% of people who want Apple be a company they're quite simply not.

i was too lazy reading (as of now) 676 comments, but didn't anybody else think this is the remote for the new (i)TV?

With a front facing camera and a speaker grill on top of the screen? Don't get me wrong .. this thing will work as a remote for iTunes or an AppleTV .. but it is going to be a phone first and foremost.

T

Steve would have never allowed this, and after Tim saying he was doubling down on security, i seriously don't think this will be the new iPhone at all, we will all be amazed on Sep 12th.

I hope so. If this is really it then I will be using my 4S for a lot longer.

It amazing me the amount of Apple brainwashing I'm reading in this thread.

The most amazing thing being a few people actually saying the don't want a replaceable battery!

I mean they are not saying They would only like a replaceable battery if it had no effect on the build, or they would only want one, if it was done in a very neat Apple way, or that they would only want one if it had no impact of size/weight etc etc.

No, amazingly people are actually publicly stating that they do not want the option to replace a battery.

I mean how jaw dropping is that?

The funny and sad thing is, watching these same people BIG UP a future iPhone if, by some means it did have a replaceable battery.
