Thank you OP

I just picked up my ipad 2 16gig white at local target thanks to this thread.. They had 5 white 16gig which were sold out within 10 mins of the store opening...

Thanks OP!

Thanks to the OP for helping me snag an iPad 2 at Best Buy. Their inventory showed available, got out of work, walked in, and eventually walked out with a new Black iPad 2 WiFi.

I talked with a regular sales person first, kind, but told me no they didn't have any. Found a manager walking the floor, asked her, she told me that they did and they only had black. Originally I wanted white, so I said, "No thanks", and walked away. I then googled "Best buy return policy" which is now 14 days, no restocking fees. So I thought, I can just pick up the Black 32 Wifi, and exchange it in 14 days for a white one. I found another regular sales person, and he also just told me no. I told him I just talked to a lady in a black shirt who said that they did. He was surprised, checked the SKU, and sure enough, in stock. After I made sure he brought it out, I asked about the return policy, and I can actually exchange for up to 30 days. Verified this with 2 additional other employees there. So I can get my iPad fix now for a month while I wait for these to be fully in stock to swap for a white one later. :)

So two things of note:
1. Talk to a manager when asking about inventory, or politely ask the employee to check inventory when you know they have it. I think they're so used to not having it, and when they do, they only have it for a short time. 9 times out of 10, they're right.

2. If they don't have exactly what you want, with Best Buy you have 14 days to return it or 30 days to exchange it for what you do want.

Hope this helps. I honestly didn't believe Best Buy would have it and any inventory would be going to fill reserves. They've stopped the reserve list on Thursday, so there's a better chance to grab one now.

3/25 Edit: After reading the back of my receipt and Best Buy's return policy website, it brought up concern that what the three separate BB employees was not the case. Not wanting to get screwed, I called their customer service and found out that the 30 day exchange is WRONG, and it is only 14 days for tablets and iPads. Sorry for passing along bad information. I figured 3 separate employees can't all be wrong... I guess that's what I get for assuming.

ps. Exchanged it at Best Buy for the one I wanted after a few days. It was a lot easier to get an iPad 2 when I wanted an exchange as opposed to a regular shopper.

So they do tell you "no" when they have it... happened to me yesterday in the Apple section of a Best Buy.

Yeah, I just updated my post on why I think they tell you "no". Both employees were kind and apologized for not having it. I believe they truly didn't know. When I asked at Target over the weekend (they had a few 64GB in their inventory, I wasn't interested, but I thought I'd test the waters of what kind of help I would get), I just got a very curt "No." from two different employees (one in electronics, another near the front).

I'm just glad the manager at Best Buy saw me wandering and asked if I needed help.

The Best Buy I was at, the employee were definitely having some fun. They wandered around knowing we all wanted iPads asking "Hey anyone need any help, Macbooks, iMacs, iPads? Wait a minute, not iPads. Haha" He did that three times during the few minutes I was there.

Just came from a BB and they said they didn't have any in stock and that if they did all would go to the people that are on reserves...you said thye stopped thursday does that mean they would fill the people reserves before that then sell it on the floor

Yes, all new stock matching up with models on reserve will be offered to those who reserved one first. Only after all reservations for a model are completed are they supposed to allow general sale of the model. How it works if one comes in and the last guy with that model reserved doesn't show up, I don't know.

Best Buy is showing they have them in a few stores in NYC. I went to the 44th/5th store and they told me none in stock. This is how it played out:

Me: Hey do you have any iPad 2s?

Him: No, all sold out.

Me: Really?

Him: I said there's none so there's none.

Me: But I saw that there are some here in stock online.

Him: <looks down> Oh my goodness...Who are you gonna trust, me or online?

Me: <chuckled> Online.

Him: We're all out.

Me: I saw some guy bought one and walked out with it as I was coming in.

Him: He reserved one...

Me: <in a sarcastic tone> All right... <starts walking away>

Him: Come here, I have to explain... if you go to another store you'll see the same thing, it's for people who reserved that's why you will see people walking out with them even in other stores.

Not buying it, just because he changed his story and hesitated when I told him about the store showing inventory online. I didn't want to waste any more time to continue with him as I have one coming in a couple weeks from Apple anyway. I wasn't going to get into it with a retail employee who's on top of the world right now with everyone asking him about iPad 2s every 5 seconds (seriously true the time I was there).

So it's all good, I guess I have to wait.

I would've asked to speak to the manager and would've explained that I didn't appreciate being mislead and lied to. That was a very unprofessional way for the salesperson to handle your situation.

I'm not there to play games and get the run around, I'm there to spend money. If I'm polite and respectful, they should be too.

Thank you

My story:

I read the post yesterday and proceeded to check the links for the item I wanted (one 32gb black wifi device). It was sold out everywhere but a few Target stores near me listed them as available. I called the store closest to my house and they confirmed that they had 5 in stock. I took the train and got to the store within 35 minutes. Unfortunately they sold the last one 5 mins before I got there.

Frustrated, I went back to work. Called up a few other Targets in Queens and Manhattan. One of the Targets in Queens told me that they had none. "But it says available online" i replied. They then said, ok well we likely got some in but they are not processed yet. Call back later tonight. Ok fine.

So I call back around 10:30pm, near when this Target would close. Yes, we have Ipads, still not processed, just call back tomorrow. "What if I come in right when you open", I said. "Will they be available for sale?". "They should be" the store rep replied.

So I take the train at 6am, get to Queens at 7:15am. Of course I am lost. Find a cab which takes me to the right location. Get to the Target and there are 2 ppl waiting for it to open (its about 7:45am).

After me about 6 ppl arrive. There is no semblance of order. The gates open at 8am and ppl, literally, start RUNNING. Now this was like a super target. Electronics are on the 2nd Floor of the Target, and you have to take the escalator. I was lucky I didnt get pushed to the floor.

Since i refused to run, when I got to the electronics section all 10 ppl were just mulling about the electronics section, looking for the Ipads. I decided that I would take a different approach. I asked one of the Target staffers if there was a line for Ipad purchases. He replied, good idea, everyone form 1 line starting right here in the center lane, gesturing to an aisle near me. Perfect, that made me number #2 in line. The person in front of me just kept repeating that she wanted a white ipad. Uhm, well they didnt have any (and the guy said as such). But thats all she kept asking for, however. Since I needed to get to work, I just said, listen, can i just purchase a 32gb wifi black if you have it? Sure, the Target employee said. Rang me up and I walked out the door at 8:02am.

I know this was a long reply but I just wanted to say 1. thank you to the person for posting the links and 2. just wanted to share my experience.

Good luck all. :)

Awesome that you got one. Scary what people have become though just for an iPad.

I just wanted to thank you for posting this everybody. I clicked on it randomly and I found out Target just received 4 early yesterday morning. Went right over and snagged one with 0 wait. THANK YOU!

Thats the store in citrus park right?

Yes. In case anyone in Tampa area is interested, just left the store again (to see if I could get a gift receipt), asked if they have any in stock and she said only an open box 64 GB wifi (didn't ask color, sorry) that was being checked out by the staff before being sold.

Thanks OP!

I just picked up a black AT&T 64GB at Best Buy in Overland Park, KS--no reservation needed. They also had several black AT&T 16GB models available for sale.

A local Target near me has been showing a 64GB White Wifi in stock for a few days. I really hate the white. Hhhhhhhhhhhate the white. BUT... I may have to go get it.

Don't ... wait a few more days. You'll get what you really want.

Clearwater Target had a bunch come in yesterday, that's how I was able to snag my 64 gb att 3G. Got there right before they brought them out. In the time I was waiting on line people just started showing up out of the woodwork. They didn't start to put them out till 12:30 pm. The people there were very nice about trying to accommodate everyone to the model that they wanted.

Best Buy near my work had 45 iPad 2's 16 GB Black Wifi-only. Saw them being carted to the front customer service desk.

I immediately followed the cart and went up to ask about them only to be told that they were all spoken for.

I was so close...and yes I know there were 45 because I asked a sales person to check the sku from the link on the first page. He looked up it on there computer and we both say that it said 45 available 45 paid for.

Thanks to OP of the thread that I was able to snag an iPad this morning @ Queens place Target.

They actually had 4 white 16GB WiFi - they were hidden behind the 32GB black ones. I was able to get one. Too bad they were all sold out by 8:10. Towards the end a teenage scalper brought his 80 yr. old grandma to buy the last 2 white ones....grrr. Looks like they have finally found the "secret" of Target.

Thank You

Thanks to the OP of this thread so that I was able to get my att ipad2 yesterday from Bestbuy.

Apex, NC Target had them this morning

Many thanks for the Target links and Python script. I got a notification that the White 64GB AT&T model was in stock at one of my local Targets (Apex, NC) this morning at 9:57AM. Got there at 10:37 and they had the one I was after plus about 10 more of varying varieties. All appeared to be White. Now if I could just find a Product Red Smart Cover I'll be complete (have a grey poly model to hold me over).

This same target got some more today. I just got 2 white 16gb WIFI ipads. An extra one for my sister in law "Just in Case"!

Great work guys!
