LOL hey Dave! I wouldn't have ran but I thought you might be a scalper and I didn't know they were limiting it to 1 per person.
Had I known that, I woulda walked over. But, every other target I've read has stories of people buying multiples and you just never know.
Glad we got what we came for.
I assume that "In Store Only" doesn't necessarily mean that they actually have them in stock?
It means they have them but for reserves only.
Best Buy is showing they have them in a few stores in NYC. I went to the 44th/5th store and they told me none in stock. This is how it played out:
Me: Hey do you have any iPad 2s?
Him: No, all sold out.
Me: Really?
Him: I said there's none so there's none.
Me: But I saw that there are some here in stock online.
Him: <looks down> Oh my goodness...Who are you gonna trust, me or online?
Me: <chuckled> Online.
Him: We're all out.
Me: I saw some guy bought one and walked out with it as I was coming in.
Him: He reserved one...
Me: <in a sarcastic tone> All right... <starts walking away>
Him: Come here, I have to explain... if you go to another store you'll see the same thing, it's for people who reserved that's why you will see people walking out with them even in other stores.
Not buying it, just because he changed his story and hesitated when I told him about the store showing inventory online. I didn't want to waste any more time to continue with him as I have one coming in a couple weeks from Apple anyway. I wasn't going to get into it with a retail employee who's on top of the world right now with everyone asking him about iPad 2s every 5 seconds (seriously true the time I was there).
So it's all good, I guess I have to wait.
The guy at my BB was straight up with me today when imasked him about in store only. He said yes we have them but you had to reserve one to get one right now. Makes sense and seems only fair to me.
My area is showing the exact model ONLY that is available in store. I hope I can get it. I'll be there 1 hr before opening. Hope I'm not too late.
Cheers to the OP. I was one of the ones caught in the debacle of trying to order an iPad2 from Verizon, and getting ensnared in false assurances, disinformation and broken promises. So finally I determined to ditch the big red V and take my chances using this thread to find an iPad2 in a store somewhere in my area.
The Target in Cupertino listed available stock last night, and my family and I were planning to be within 5 miles of that store this morning for lunch. At the restaurant, I used this thread again to check the stock, and it said "Out of Stock". Bummer. I was too late.
BUT! Another store - on Saratoga Ave - suddenly listed stock available. That's when I looked out the window - and realized that the Target on Saratoga Ave was literally directly across the street from the restaurant I was in. So I stood up, jogged across the street, and into the Target. Up the escalator, to the electronics department, over to the case and... 7 brand new iPads sitting, NIB! A man came up next to me and said, "There they are! I can't believe it!" And high-fived me. Several more people suddenly appeared behind us, and within 5 minutes the case was empty and the clerk was busily ringing us all up. I walked up with a brand new 64gb unit, and couldn't be happier with it.
So, if youre still looking out there, keep trying! I was in the right place at the right time, and snagged one with a handful of other lucky people today. The Target links seem to be particularly accurate. Good hunting! Thanks again to the OP! 😀
Also don't think this is true. This morning I noticed my local BB showed In Stores Only for white 32 GB AT&T models, so I stopped by and sure enough, they had three in the cage. Asked the woman if they were reserved and she said "no" so now my sister has the model she was waiting for. I checked the status again at 6 pm tonight, status was unchanged. I was heading in that direction and thought I'd checked again to see if the system was accurate and sure enough, they were ringing up the last one for a guy just as I walked up. Biggest surprise was that it stayed in stock all day long.
