Thanks to this thread, I just walked into a Target store and snagged the last iPad 2--a 32gb white wifi version. Never thought it would be so easy, the guy who worked there was surprised they had it too. Was looking for black originally, but this will certainly do!:)

just called that best buy still 2 white 32gb att left go back by the computers and ask if in the area get them before the scalpers!

This thread is awesome. Thank you OP!!!

I was leaving the office and decided to make one last check and turned out a Target by me had it. I took a cab and grabbed the last one :)
It's not the model I wanted, but hey beggers can't be choosers.

Thanks again!!

LOL hey Dave! I wouldn't have ran but I thought you might be a scalper and I didn't know they were limiting it to 1 per person.

Had I known that, I woulda walked over. But, every other target I've read has stories of people buying multiples and you just never know.

Glad we got what we came for.

Nope, not a scalper. Just a bit grungy from not having showered yet when I saw the availability. Got my cardio in for the day, however!

Funny thing is my credit card didn't go through at first and the clerk was giving me the stink eye. I had to call and it turned out the Master Card fraud department had flagged the transaction as out of the ordinary for my purchasing pattern.

I assume that "In Store Only" doesn't necessarily mean that they actually have them in stock?

It means they have them but for reserves only.

Also don't think this is true. This morning I noticed my local BB showed In Stores Only for white 32 GB AT&T models, so I stopped by and sure enough, they had three in the cage. Asked the woman if they were reserved and she said "no" so now my sister has the model she was waiting for. I checked the status again at 6 pm tonight, status was unchanged. I was heading in that direction and thought I'd checked again to see if the system was accurate and sure enough, they were ringing up the last one for a guy just as I walked up. Biggest surprise was that it stayed in stock all day long.

thats great the Piscataway NJ one shows they have them all in stock and the guy on the phone said people keep calling and i dont know why we dont have them

Target inventory showed it was available for the white 16GB wifi, raced down to the store and sure enough there was two of them and a black 32GB wifi. Picked up a white one while another guy picked up the black one at about the same time. SUCCESS! :D

Best Buy is showing they have them in a few stores in NYC. I went to the 44th/5th store and they told me none in stock. This is how it played out:

Me: Hey do you have any iPad 2s?

Him: No, all sold out.

Me: Really?

Him: I said there's none so there's none.

Me: But I saw that there are some here in stock online.

Him: <looks down> Oh my goodness...Who are you gonna trust, me or online?

Me: <chuckled> Online.

Him: We're all out.

Me: I saw some guy bought one and walked out with it as I was coming in.

Him: He reserved one...

Me: <in a sarcastic tone> All right... <starts walking away>

Him: Come here, I have to explain... if you go to another store you'll see the same thing, it's for people who reserved that's why you will see people walking out with them even in other stores.

Not buying it, just because he changed his story and hesitated when I told him about the store showing inventory online. I didn't want to waste any more time to continue with him as I have one coming in a couple weeks from Apple anyway. I wasn't going to get into it with a retail employee who's on top of the world right now with everyone asking him about iPad 2s every 5 seconds (seriously true the time I was there).

So it's all good, I guess I have to wait.

Most Best Buys are that way. I had the same conversation with an employee today. He told me they may have gotten them in, but they are all accounted for and not out in the cage. He searched the computer for the other stores in the area, and one about an hour away had 1 64GB AT&T black in stock, but the rest showed none available.

Worked great! Picked up the exact model I wanted at the best buy a few minutes away from my office. :D

The guy at my BB was straight up with me today when imasked him about in store only. He said yes we have them but you had to reserve one to get one right now. Makes sense and seems only fair to me.

Just called my Local bestbuy(Topeka,KS)..asked her abt the 32gb wifi ipad ,I wanted and she was like
" right now I am checking the stock against the reserved list"..
she asked me to call after couple of min to check if any is available to buy.. i did and scored one.

Thank you!

Thank you to this thread, I got a White 64 WifI iPad2 today at Target!

Here's my tale...
Woke up this morning around 9am, called nearby Apple Store, Targets, Walmarts and Best Buy (all around Santa Ana, Ca). All said "None in stock, not sure when we're getting some." Feeling a little discouraged, went about my day.
Went to the the DMV, renewed license and got out in 30mins! (Yes, first WIN of the day. Word to the wise: Make appointments for the DMV!) Got to my car and logged on MacRumors Forum to see what was new. Went to my favorite thread (This one! Someone should really Sticky this one!) and read about someone getting an iPad this morning from one of the Targets I called in which they stated none were in stock. WTP!?! Disappointment set in again...but it was quickly replaced with Hope. I used the search to see if by crazy chance a nearby Target may have one. I went with a different config from what I've been searching....let's see about a White WiFi only model. EUREKA! "Available" at Target in Westminster, Ca! I decided to make my way over there and NOT call....
By the time I got there, Target guy said that they have the 64 White (like the online inventory stated, Thank you Virtute!!:D). I bought one and proceeded happily to the Apple Store to check out the accessories. (2nd WIN of the day!!)

I got my iPad around 1:30pm today. I felt very lucky that I did not not have to stand in line for hours. Keep using these links made possible by Virtute and others. Thank you for listening all.

I was not having any luck with BB, Target or Walmart. They were always getting some in, but didn't know when. I'm through with all of them. I did get on a call list at a local store, Mac SuperStore in San Luis Obispo, CA. Unlike BB they didn't want $100 to reserve one. They called this afternoon and I'm picking up a white 32 GB Wifi tomorrow. I wanted Black, but they said it would be a lot longer since I was way down the list for that model. The black must be hard to get. I got real tired of checking the stores and finding a few, but they were always out or reserved. I will do more Apple business with Mac SuperStore.
:):):):):)

I'm sitting here in awe that I actually am holding a 32GB AT&T model (black). I've been checking Best Buy, Target, and Walmart in my local area (Folsom, CA) for two weeks and, every time, NOTHING. Not a single model in any color. Today, at the end of the work day, on a whim I checked Best Buy and... BAM... my preferred model was IN STOCK.

I almost didn't bother going there. I figured it was being held for a reserve. But I said what the heck and drove down there anyway. Sure enough, they had 1 iPad 2 left! Out of all 18 models, it was the exact one I wanted (I would not have settled for an alternative).

Surprisingly there were no issues with it being reserved. He just pulled it out and rang it up!

Now, if only the thing would sync all my stuff over a little faster....

Big props to the OP! Nicely done.

I will be cancelling my orders at B&H and Apple and hopefully bumps some others up one notch.

Just tried the Target links out tonite and saw local one had a white wifi 32 gb. Went over. The guy at electronics said they had one but it was display or something and I could not get it. He stayed on his phone the whole time.

Went down to service desk. They found it was in stock room, sent someone to get it and I got a 5% off Target credit card while I waited.

Thanks to this thread!

W

I finally scored my 64gb black 3g At&t iPad2 at the Best Buy in Corona.

I was just checking the local store stocks this evening and not expecting any good news. WOW was I suprised...I called and sure enough they had the exact model I wanted. They had a total of 3 when I called...one Att...one wifi and one verizon...not sure of the specs on the others. I drove over to Corona like a bat out of Hell and made it with minutes to spare before the store closed tonight. Thank you to the girl there who held it for me...she was not supposed to but she did it anyways for me.

When I got there the Verizon one sold...but if anyone is interested they still have a wifi model left...i think it is a 16gb....but not sure. Either show up when they open or call in the AM. It was the Best Buy off of the 15 and Cajaco Rd..

Also I noticed on the Besy Buy stock they show some in the Downey and Lakewood Stores...please call before driving all the way over there.

Good luck and thanks again to the person that posted the Best Buy, Target and Walmart stock checking links...they really do work!!!

Peace out....

My area is showing the exact model ONLY that is available in store. I hope I can get it. I'll be there 1 hr before opening. Hope I'm not too late.

Cheers to the OP. I was one of the ones caught in the debacle of trying to order an iPad2 from Verizon, and getting ensnared in false assurances, disinformation and broken promises. So finally I determined to ditch the big red V and take my chances using this thread to find an iPad2 in a store somewhere in my area.

The Target in Cupertino listed available stock last night, and my family and I were planning to be within 5 miles of that store this morning for lunch. At the restaurant, I used this thread again to check the stock, and it said "Out of Stock". Bummer. I was too late.

BUT! Another store - on Saratoga Ave - suddenly listed stock available. That's when I looked out the window - and realized that the Target on Saratoga Ave was literally directly across the street from the restaurant I was in. So I stood up, jogged across the street, and into the Target. Up the escalator, to the electronics department, over to the case and... 7 brand new iPads sitting, NIB! A man came up next to me and said, "There they are! I can't believe it!" And high-fived me. Several more people suddenly appeared behind us, and within 5 minutes the case was empty and the clerk was busily ringing us all up. I walked out with a brand new 64gb unit, and couldn't be happier with it.

So, if youre still looking out there, keep trying! I was in the right place at the right time, and snagged one with a handful of other lucky people today. The Target links seem to be particularly accurate. Good hunting! Thanks again to the OP! :D

First, congrats!

Second, amazing how many of us are checking stock constantly. Sounds like everyone was rushing there within minutes of this thing showing "in stock". This wouldn't be so fun if they did that preordering thing now would it.. /s
