I feel like I might be eliminating my competitive advantage here, but I'll just hope some good karma comes my way instead. Out of frustration at the removal/absence of an online availability check for BestBuy/Walmart, I decided to do some...creative browsing. The Target links were sourced from an earlier post, and credit for those goes to the OP, mo0620.

No matter what these links say, it's a good idea to call ahead and try to confirm the readings. However, I would not necessarily trust the employees in-store or over the phone, especially if they don't actually look before answering you. Bring the item sku with you and politely ask them to check, as this has resulted in success and surprised employees in some cases.

I just wanted to say thanks alot to Virtute and all who have helped in these forums establishing inventory links and all! My brother-in-law was able to score me a white 64gb at&t ipad 2! I tried lining up at the Apple store for 3 days in early morning hours, 5am, 5:45am, etc. I even tried local Targets a couple of times. Finally, today my local Best Buy had a few in stock but I had to work till 5pm. My brother-in-law was off so I asked if he could check it out for me. By the time he arrived at around 3:30 or so, he got the last one. Kudos again to everyone! Hopefully my fellow forum members will all get one, minus the scalpers.
 
yes, this thread has been very helpful. I just happened to check best buy using these links and saw "in store only" for the first time since launch. Ran over and they had a few they were selling (quietly). Mentioned that I saw they had stock online and they gave me a black 32gb.

These links work. Check them often.
 
I just registered here specifically to say THANK YOU to the person who created this thread and posted these links. I was going crazy waiting on an endless Best Buy reservation list, but thanks to this thread I was able to find a black 16gb wi-fi iPad2--exactly the one i wanted--at a Target store about 20 minutes away from me. (The night before that, I found another one at a closer store, but was beaten to the counter by five minutes. Definitely a long ride home after that.)

So, thanks again. And by the way, Target is definitely the place to look. Their inventory system seems to be a live one, and updates within an hour or so of sales. I tried calling a few Walmarts when their sites said they had stock, but was always told their inventory counts were incorrect.

So, thanks again--I'm definitely loving my new iPad, and my wife is enjoying the first-gen iPad I passed down to her.
 
i see that an item is available but when i call the person said it is not and that the inventory is wrong
 
no luck for me in WNC

While these links have been great at finding ipad 2's in my area. All i keep seeing that are available are the att or vzw ones. all i want is a 16 gig wifi version. anyone had any luck in wnc? ;)
 
omg, thank you SOOO much to the op. thanks to your link, i found a 32g att 3g in asheville, nc. the guy actually said they had several in stock this morning(!)

i can cancel my order with apple (3-4 week wait) and pick it up this afternoon. (best buy allows you to pay over the phone, so you don't have to sweat on your way over.)

Niice! I also called best buy in asheville and they told me they had a white 16 gig verizon one. im not really interested in any of the 3G models so i gotta white till they have 16 gig wifi only. Congrats, dude!:apple:

thanks! when i called yesterday am they only had the verizon ones in...so apparently they *are* getting new stock.
 
Total Frustration

Best Buy has got to be one of the worst logistically set up companies I have ever seen. How is it that two of the stores 15 miles away from the store that I pre-ordered my iPad at have received shipments? The store that I ordered from has nothing! Really? Are they that backwards? I'm beginning to think that I should just order from apple and wait 5 weeks, it might be quicker.
 
seems like they are starting to pop up in more stores now, and people are able to get their hands on them...

Seems like that in certain parts of the country but I still can't find an iPad in the Bay Area. I've tried the apple store, BB, Target, etc. I have a preorder with J&R but I can't seem to stop searching.

Thanks OP! Stumbled across this thread this morning and was able to find a black 32GB ATT at a Target, walked in at 9am and it was the last one sitting on the shelf.

Anyone have any luck with finding one in/around Portland OR?

All the BB's are still fulfilling reservations and Target and Walmart don't seem much better. People are still standing in line over night at Apple stores too.

All these reports of on the shelf iPads in other parts of the country, but no such luck around here, for me.

A big thanks to Virtute for making this thread because of the ipad tracker I finally got one:D::D Target again is my favorite store.
I got up this morning at 5 o'clock and haven't been able to sleep for the last two days because both times I tried to buy an ipad. This time I went a hour and half earlier and all the tickets to get an ipad was gone by 7:30am. I can finally rest in peace now without checking these websites every 15 minute for last 2 and half days.

You should try the target at airport way because I got mine there after striking out at the apple store. They had a few shipment of ipads in. I think the 3G one are gone but thy might have 32gb wifi left. But there was already two people behind and in front of me each buying two. I brought just one for me.

Thanks everyone. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that my local Target listed as "Available." I called and they had 2 16Gb White models...I was able to run down and get one.

It's been really crazy trying to find one around here...even in this saturated market (2 apple stores, lots of targets and walmarts...)

32 GB just went out of stock (getting the email notifications.) But I can vouch for this being a good store, mostly because it's so out of the way.
 
Thank you so much OP... finally was able to score a 64GB Black AT&T at Target during my lunch break... they actually had at least one of each model available... I was shocked.

The Target is in Mechanicsburg, PA, btw....

I had to make an account to tell you thank you for this post. I just located and purchased a 32 gb White at Best Buy. I live an hour from anywhere I can buy an iPad so this was amazingly helpful. What was shocking to me is that they let me purchase it over the phone. I guess I will see if it is still there when I get to the store around 5:00. Here is to hopeing.... again THANK YOU!!!!

i've been checking all day and when it says it is there it is..i learned by lesson right as it pops up i call and was told "no shippment", call back an hour later "oh we just sold out of the one you wanted, we have the white one"

Just got mine from Best Buy thanks to the inventory tracker. I'm not one to wait in line for anything. I certainly was not going to wait in line for an iPad.

I would have waited longer to pick one up, but the link to BB inventory was great. The store showed stock last night and still had inventory at lunch time, so I drove over to pick it up. Nice to have her home! :D
