Best Buys inventory tracker is crap shoot.
I found in New York, all the best buys are essentially not up dating their inventory or either the people answering the phone don't care or don't know the true situation.
the Target inventory is much more up to date. Man i drove all the way to a Jersey store after calling and confirming stock but got there 2 mins too late and watched my ipad being sold out...![]()

Remember some best buy show that they have some in stock, but they tell you they dont have any because those in the inventory are reserved. Thats why it show that they have some in stock.
Called back. Didn't misunderstand me. For whatever reason it's their managers policy now. They can hold for 30 minutes but that's all. Can't get there until 9ish and they only have 3 16GB verizon.![]()

I'm not driving an hour there without a guarantee they'll have one so I guess I'll wait until I happen to luck into one.
Thanks OP!! Finally got one today. Although it almost didn't happen. I am in NYC and they are especially difficult to find. I have a deposit down since day after launch at BB but they haven't called yet so I've been watching the Target tracker. Finally have a morning off to go early. Saw there were some 64GB ATT at one of the Brooklyn stores so I grabbed my wallet and took off. Got there, they had it, rang it up, handed them my credit card and they asked for ID. I forgot my license at home. UGH. Told them that I don't have ID and that it can't be a condition for sale as per your merchant agreement. They balked at that even though it is true. Asked them to hold it for me so I could run and grab cash. They agreed to hold it for a half hour. Ran across the street and thankfully a branch of the bank I use (HSBC) was right there. Made a withdrawal and ran back. They didn't hold it. Asked if there were any more, said she thought only 32 GB but would look. She found another 64GB but in black instead of white, I'll take it! Syncing now after I called AMEX to complain about Target. I hate stores that want ID for a CC even though it violates their merchant agreement.

wow, good job for sticking up for yourself! They probably werent expecting someone to bring up the merchant agreement of the store.
Walmart's website said that the Black 32GB WiFi was in stock at the Riverdale, NJ store last night a little after midnight EST. For the last 10 days it had reported Out of Stock everyday. Got up early before the store opened and checked again and the site still listed it as "In Stock." Went to the store, got in 5 mins before they officially opened at 6:55AM and went to the department. After 30+ mins of searching both the website and their inventory, it was reported that 1 unit was in stock and on-hand. However, no associate could locate the device. Waited in store for 1.5hrs as they searched and still nothing, and they offered to call me if they were able to locate it. Got a call 2 hours later that 64GB 3G models had come in, but still no 32GB WiFi only. I've worked in retail and its pretty hard for the "On Hand" count in the store to go up without actual product being scanned into the system. A manager also reported that no iPad 2's whatsoever had been sold since the launch date. Im guessing one of the employees stashed it somewhere and thats why it couldnt be found.
Really? They appear to have some in stock at locations near me. I'm wondering whether I should go for the 32 or 64. I have a 64 on hold at B&H, but who knows when that's coming in.
Which models?? That's my BB store
Any ATT models?
where do you live? I would hold off on rushing to the store. try to call and find out.
best of luck everyone. I'm this close to just buying it online off apple site at this point.
Just checked the inventory link for Walmart (96th St. Fishers, IN) and called them and they said they don't have it. Since it was close to my place so went there and the guy checked it in the racks (not the system) and said they don't have it . I was looking for 32GB AT&T, so asked him to check it again because it was showing "In Stock". He checked and said, yes we got it.
So I would suggest go there personally and check with them.
Check the racks yourself, if you can
Edit: The one I got was the last one and just checked the inventory and it now says Out of Stock. Glad inventory link worked.
Thanks a lot for posting it.
