Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I was able to pick up a black 64G Vz this evening at Target in Rancho Santa Margarita. They had a few 32G and 64G Verizon's left. I'm typing this on my shiny new iPad 2. :)

many available at American TV!!!

Long Story:

So after placing on order at Apple on Mar 18th (ships April 21), and obsessively checking the Target and Best Buy links, in Sunday's paper I saw the iPad 2 advertised by American TV, an upper midwestern appliance, electronics and furniture store. "Yeah, right" I thought. "How would those guys have the iPad 2?" This week their website showed the 16GB Black WiFi as "limited stock". After getting repeatedly burned at Taget (which always says "available") I didn't have my hopes up. On impulse I drove there after work tonight and the salesman says. Which kind? I said 16GB WIFI, Black. He said...

Short Story:

"WE HAVE ABOUT 55 OF THOSE".

Actually, there were in their warehouse in Milwaukee, but with 10% deposit they would be here in a day or two at the most. Then he checked the stock and  they had one right here. I was astounded. I asked how they got them and he gave some distribution explanation that I didn't understand. Anyway:

American TV - W Beltline in Madison, WI. Tell Johnny I sent you!!

(Of course if you have a local American, stop in.)

No dead pixels; Apple orders cancelled. I'm a bit embarrassed I succumbed to iPad fever, but thanks everyone for keeping me company. Good luck!

Long story short: Don't bother calling, drive to the store and ask!

Full Version:

After reading this thread fully last week I noticed that my BestBuy store had the listing "In Store Only," so I decided to stop by after work. I had called multiple times over the period of that week and eventually someone told me that if I timed it right, I could pick one up if someone did not pick up their reserve after 48 hours had passed.

When I walked up to customer service, I asked if I could go ahead and purchase an Ipad2 that I had called about earlier and a representative told me that they were releasing them after 4pm that day if the reserved copies weren't picked up. She was clueless to what I was talking about but said she'd go try and find out for me. After 10 mins of her running around asking people she came back and told me that all their managers were in a meeting if I could hold on a few more minutes. Then another girl came out of the back and she asked her and she was like "no, we are out." But I waited anyways just in case and she got the manger she was looking for.

So the manager came up and I told him what I told him and he kinda pondered it a moment then said "hold on one second let me go check stock." So then he goes off into the "Fire Control Room" (lol) where I guess they were hiding their stock. Maybe they were worried about employee theft? I don't know, anyways, he comes back out and says, well we have a few back there but they are supposed to go to the next person on the list. So I said "The girl on the phone didn't tell me that. Could i maybe get on the list then? I'm pregnant (I am lol) and it's hard for me to keep trying every day to see if there is a free one around." He said, he understood my situation but couldn't put me on the list. Then he said "Wait one second let me check again."

So I wait some more. He comes out with a big long printed out list of names, there must have been 20 pages there, I'm not kidding, of reservations, and he starts going through it. Now about 30 minutes has passed and I'm starting to think "well if you don't have one, just tell me so I can go lol."

But he goes into the fire room one more time and then stays in there for another 15 mins. At this point I'm calling my husband because I'm so late from my drive home from work. But then he returns with a single box in his hand! I hear a random employee stop him "Hey are you really going to sell that to her?" And he said "Yeah, I am. " LOL!

So he finally walks up to me and says "How about a white 32g wifi?" and I'm like Absolutely! :)

So there is my Ipad2 story. I wish you all the best of luck in acquiring one yourself!

My only issue now is that I have to get another one for a family member! I don't think I'll be so lucky twice!

As I said in other threads, it is amazing hearing these stories from BestBuy stores. I have had a similar experience as you except I dont get the iPads in the end

Walmart in Oxnard still has One!

Thank you Thank You Thank you!! I just scored my iPad 2 thanks to the WalMart tracker. Have been trying for a week. Don’t give up! Also within 15min of me buying my iPad 2 the WalMart tracker said not in stock even thought it still says updated as of 3/20/11. Also this might help some people still trying to get an iPad 2. The person who was in the electronic department was confused did not know she had any ipad 2’s because the box says iPad not iPad 2. When employees are looking they might not realize that it’s an iPad 2. Also for people trying to get an At&t model. Nowhere on the box does it say At&t you have to know the model number. Do not trust person answering phone. Also there was still one left at the Walmart in Oxnard I was so excited about getting mine I did not check what the other one was.

I bought a first gen iPad from verizon about a week ago. Dead pixel. Returned.

Found a target with 6 black iPad 2 wifi only in stock. They lady confirmed after I had to convince her they were actually black (called three times and she said they were white).

Took it into my car, activated it from my laptop....DEAD PIXEL!

Huge Apple fail if you ask me. Returned it right away and bought another. Second was good except for minor light leak when used in the dark and with black colors. Not noticeable during use though.

Anyway, thanks for the links!

Been calling all the local BB's around Oceanside, CA on my days off from school.
Usually never had much luck, Oceanside, San Marcos, Encinitas, Temecula were usually out of stock.
And the BB in Murrieta never picked up the phone.

I called this morning and the BB in San Macros had two 32GB Wifi's in stock.
They wouldn't hold it for me so I hopped on my bike to rush over.
Made it in about 15min and was a minute too late. =(

In the parking lot for some odd reason I decided to give Murrieta a call.
They finally picked up and they had "a few" 16GB and 32GB Wifi's in stock.
Lady on the phone was kind of enough to hold one for me.

Just cancelled my order with Apple, and syncing my new black 32gb as we speak. =)

Good luck hunting everyone.

Pretty much SOL still for Oregon =/. Not to sound like a complainer, but.. this sucks lol.

Portlanders might have a chance, considering there's a few apple retail stores in the portland area, let alone targets, best buys and walmarts. And if any Portlanders happen to score an extra 32gb wifi model, I'd be happy to pay like 30 bucks over retail for it if you ever come to Eugene (why you would come to Eugene I don't know lol, but hey doesn't hurt to throw that out there).

I'm in Portland and I haven't even been able to get my hands on the model I want since launch. :p

There are, from time to time, various models up here, but there is no way you'd be able to get here from Eugene in time.

Might be worth seeing if the UO book store is getting any in any time soon.

People using the Best Buy searches should remember that many BBs are doing reservations, so even if it shows them in stock they might all be spoken for. Probably worth a phone call before you drive to one - or better yet, get on the list, the $100 deposit is fully refundable so no loss if you find one elsewhere first.

I was disappointed when Best Buy I reserved mine at had some but did I not get a call... must be a long line ahead of me.

I thought about that but the students got the UO book store covered, hard to compete with people who practically live RIGHT next to it. And, being college students, it's extra enticing for them to buy it and just sell it to someone on campus. Pretty much the only scalpers on Eugene Craigslist are college students (I know because they list UO campus as their location). Plus they're not getting many anyway

And driving to Portland is COMPLETELY out of the question anyway, that's a lot of gas money, a lot of time, and a slim chance lol. I mean, I want one pretty bad and I'm annoyed at the limited availability but I'm not willing to spend a hundred plus dollars to buy one from a scalper, or drive 100+ miles for the slim chance I'd find one in Portland. Nah, I may grumble about it at times haha, but I'll just keep on being as patient as possible and bugging the crap out of local stores lol.

I figure that either stock is going to increase enough that it'll be somewhat easy to get one if I'm attentive, or the people willing to pay exorbitant amounts are going to get what they want and the market for the few scalpers in my area will dry up and they'll lower their prices and stop snapping up the limited stock that the stores get.

got one black 32 wifi at my local target on tuesday right after i checked their stock online, they only had five and i was the last one, but now am already get bored of it and will i able to return it and get full refund?

According to Target's policies, if the item has been used, you cannot return it. Better get comfy with your iPad.

What are you looking for? I can keep my eye open for your model and pick it up for you, that way if you drive up to Portland you'll know it's here. :)

I work near two Best Buys and two Targets so it wouldn't be a problem for me. If they ever come back into stock.

I have had my iPad 2 for a while now but thanks to this thread at 11:59 AM EST I refreshed the walmart page and it showed instock so I rushed to my walmart and got the iPad I was looking for... If you want an iPad, I suggest check the walmart stock when it updates at noon EST.

That'd be awesome man :) I'm looking for a 32gb wifi, preferably black but I'm not that picky. Thank you :) that's really nice of you to do something like that.

Call MacConnection and it will ship for delivery in 2 business days! I called yesterday after reading a post (thanks MacRumors community), they said they had exactly what I wanted: 32GB White WiFI iPAD2. They said it would arrive Monday but I just got my UPS confirmation this morning that it will arrive today (out for delivery)!!!

Target has a 90 day no restocking fee policy. It doesn't matter if it was opened. Regardless if I didn't want it anymore I'd try and sell it. Could make a little bit of money but prices have come down dramatically recently. It'd be at least a 50-100 dollar profit still though.

Thanks for the great tip. Just ordered a 64 GB Black Verizon. Will arrive Tuesday. I wasted a lot of time looking for inventory at BB, Target and Walmart.

No problem. :) I'm not going to go stand in line at an Apple Store but if I see one I'll grab it. PM me with your details, that way I can text you or something to make sure before I grab one.
