Hmm... Unless you have a really bad Verizon coverage in your area it looks like the Verizon iPad is superior to the AT&T. Faster LTE speeds along with worldwide 3G compatibility and free tethering is a win-win. I'll probably be bringing in my AT&T 64gb in fir a refund and order the verizon one.

Now I am really thinking about exchanging my AT&T ipad for a verizon one. I have not had any problems with AT&T in the past but between this and the fact that verizon gives hotspot access with their data plans I don't know if I can justify keeping my AT&T one.
Does anyone know if I can exchange it if I open it first to check out the 4g speeds in NYC

I used my ATT iPhone 4S sim card and took out the Verizon sim, and data worked! You must apply the AT&T APN carrier settings before this works though.

What does this mean. This is my first 3G/4G iPad and I don't know where to go on the iPad to apply AT&T APN carrier settings or how to do this. Any help out there with this?

I'm guessing that I go to the cellular data in settings but then what. Do I just click on view account to get it set up?

I called the local AT&T store and they'll set up my account for the sim card for the first month and then I'd be on a month to month contract with them and I'll get the sim for free (instead of $15). So, do I just click on view account and enter my info or what?

If you purchased from Apple store you can exchange or return within 14 days, even if opened, with no restocking fees.

Which AT&T APN?

There are about 10 AT&Ts that can be selected on the unlock site. Which one do we use to be able to use our iPhone 4S sim cards?

Also, with the AT&T carrier settings installed, will the verizon sim card still work? I didn't see a verizon APN to select on the unlock site to revert the ipad back to verizon use.

You almost certainly CAN do this. However, you will likely get text message and/or email from AT&T saying something along the lines, "congratulations on an iPad. Please sign up for an iPad plan."

Some report that after an amount of time they will move you to a tethering plan that isn't unlimited or something.

AT&T really closely watches what device their SIMS are used in these days.

I am wondering whether this is still true. With the iPad2, AT&T knew definitively that you were trying to use an iPhone sim card in an iPad, because they have a list of all the device ID's (since this scenario involves an AT&T iPhone and an AT&T iPad). With the iPad 3, does AT&T have a list containing all of Verizon's device ID's? Or will it potentially just show up as an unknown different device? If that's the case, how would they know it's a tablet, versus an unlocked phone?

I don't know a lot about this stuff. Maybe someone "in the know" can answer?

Who has tried their AT&T iPhone chip in their iPad?

At times in the past when my iPhone failed, I stuck my AT&T chip into a cheap GoPhone, it did not take long for the AT&T web site to reflect that I had done this (my iPhone icon actually turned into the other phone icon on the web).

The question is, what will AT&T do about it? Kick you off AT&T? Drop your unlimited plan if you have one?

Reverse question, what happens if I put my iPad chip in my iPhone? Do I have data only?

For me the AT&T version is still better i have a 23% company discount that works on the 5g plan there's no discount on any of the Verizon plans.

1) as far as I'm aware this isn't possible since each sim card is unique and contains your account data

2) a sim card is a sim card, what data speeds you can expect are controlled by the wireless radio in the device you insert it into

I understand. So it sounds like I'm better off just using the Sim card from iPad 2, and then when i sell it, tell people they will have to get one themselves or use their own. Thanks.

3) unless your time isn't very valuable to you, don't bother. At&T and Verizon use different frequencies for their LTE networks

I don't doubt what you're saying, but just for my knowledge, I thought Verizon uses 700Mhz, and AT&T uses 700 & 1700. I know they use slightly different parts of the 700 range (Verizon: 746 - 787 MHz & AT&T: 704-746 MHz), but since the AT&T version can support the entire 700 range, couldn't it in theory also work on the Verizon LTE band? I'm sure it comes down to locking the units to the LTE bands according to which you bought, but shouldn't the physical hardware of the AT&T iPad be able to support the frequency of the Verizon LTE network (again, not talking CDMA here, only LTE)?

bit of a question

if i get an ipad 4G att version, my 4s sim will allow me to use lte if i put it in the ipad?
thanks!

Been playing around with the personal hotspot feature, and it seems like this does not work when using an AT&T sim. I've tried forcing it by swapping sims while the hotspot is active using Verizon, but it still does not activate and the hotspot panel disappears altogether when applying the AT&T APN changes.

Bummer I'll still be looking for a workaround and will post with any developments!

Wait - the corporate FAN discount works on the AT&T iPad plan?

Just called AT&T and asked. Nope. Doesn't apply to iPad plans.

Well i got an email from the premier site to order a ipad and when you get to the data plans it shows the discount only for the 5g plan only. Maybe it only works if you purchase through AT&T. Turns out you have to convert the plan to a contract to get any discounts :( o well that's still an option for some.

Has anyone yet tried a NEW UNREGISTERED AT&T IPAD SIM in the VZW model? Been looking but can't find anyone who has but there are so many threads to search through it's near impossible.

I just got one from my AT&T store. I'm not home right now but I'll try and see what I can do. I just gotta know more about this "APN" thing.

Sorry guys I'm on my iPhone and reading through 11 pages might take some time. Sorry if this has been asked already, but does this mean the vzw iPad will work with att's hspa+? Or aka faux g? I'm not concerned with using AT&T's lte, but I would prefer their hspa over vzw's ev do 3g

If it's a "virgin iPad SIM" you should just be able to put it in, go to the cellular data screen in settings and sign up with a prepaid account and pay your $15-$80,000 for your choice of data. The card SHOULD be automatically be provisioned with the correct APN (my T-Mo card was on the iPad 2). if it is not you simply need to go to www.unlockit.co.nz and select ATT and it will automatically download the APN.

Edit: I also think there is an APP you can download called APN changer or something. It's an iPhone app but should be no problem.

Okay I found website.. I'm guessing this is a virgin SIM. I suppose I'll pay the$30 for AT&Tjust to tell you guys. I'm on my iPad right now

Not Working

I just took my ATT sim out of my ipad 1 (unlimited data). I did APN change on new ipad (VZW) and put in the ATT sim. I'm getting Could not activate cellular data network You are not subscribed to a cellular data service. When I hit view account in cellular network settings, it says this device is not supported.

all I want to know is if you can see "view account" where you can select account. On my end, with virgin sim, I keep getting USIM error. I wanna to know if its just me or not.
