Well even though there are millions of people with an iPhone or iPod Touch out there, all over the world, I think it's really significant that YOU have never had this experience and therefore recommend that Apple remove the feature as it's obviously not needed.

Don't put words in my mouth. I never said Apple should remove the feature. I just don't have use for a password. I don't use my iPhone for EVERYTHING POSSIBLE like a lot of you guys do and I know a few people that are like that. If I need to bank online I do that at home.

Some people have work info that is actually pretty important.

Probably not interesting to most people, but better not shared with the world...

Yes. I'm a lawyer and my firm absolutely requires a password before being allowed to hook up with my work email. No exceptions. It's coded into the profile we have to use to access the exchange server.

It is probably also an ethical violation for an attorney to walk around with confidential client information stored on their phone if it isn't secured by a password in some way.

Geeez :)

Passcode is very important to some people. I do not use it just because I do not want to enter it each time I use the phone. I should use it because I have some bank apps there. I take the risk but not too smart.

The way SMS works is different in most countries. Usually 161 character is considered two text messages. I remember the times I used to shorten my message to 160 so, I only get charged for one message. Good old Nokia :)

There are still things missing of course and I am very sure Steve Jobs is aware of that too. Rotation lock would be useful but do you think he wants to implement that to 4.0? I do not think so, because he will put that as a switch/hardware with the new iPhone. Everybody has been complaining about Apple's updates because they did not do this they did not do that. Do you honestly think they do not know what they are doing? They implement everything slowly. It is all marketing. There are so many people who want to dumb their original iPhone (2G) and get the 3G or 3GS, better yet the new coming iPhone because they cannot get the 4.0. Some people will buy the new iPhone and dump their 3GS just because the new one has the "Lock rotation switch" or something new to the coming iPhone such as two cameras, etc.? Steve Jobs is smart. Some people think that Mr. Jobs does not know what he is doing? :) That's pretty funny :)

Speaking of Lebanon; Lebanese cuisine has one of the most delicious dishes in the world! No, not fried chicken, green beans and gravy like in Lebanon, Ohio :) It is Tabouleh, Hummus, Muhammara, etc.

Changes to Contacts

I've noticed some changes for Contacts.

1. When adding a new contact - Screen layout has changed

2. There is a new function for existing contacts where you can "Link New Contact" - it appears that you can build linkages between contacts. It then presents the contact info as "unified info" -

So, no more having to type in the same address multiple times for each family member at the same address? That'd be sweet.

A few things I've noticed this evening when playing around:

- The volume rocker no longer adjusts playback volume for the speaker when in iPod

- You are now able to view contact groups within the phone app. Was previously only possible in Contacts

The iPod is severely bugged right now. When viewing your library albums, they're all listed numerically rather than alphabetically (see below). Also, the lock screen displays the incorrect information and artwork for the current track.

Edit: The lock screen problem has now fixed itself. Don't know what was going on there.

Can somebody a screenshot of in App SMS - why has this awesome feature been overlooked?

Thanks,

Shawn

I was just about to say the same thing, to me that's one of the biggest changes, yet nobody seems to be talking about it..

I noticed this in a live blog but what do you think is the 'cell data only setting'? (above spell check)

I was thinking it could be a setting so the phone only uses data therefore you only have to have a data plan and basically just use email for SMS/MMS and voip for calls, or it might be a turn off data setting so (maybe not US) but in other countries where you might have a payasyougo iphone so it doesnt use any background data, anyone got any insights?

Another thing I noticed in 4.0 is that when using the camera, the shutter is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY faster. You can shoot picture after picture after picture.

I just saw this post; this is one of the most exciting upgrades I've seen so far. It'll come in EXTREMELY handy for me. I don't use the camera a ton, but there are times when waiting for the focus and then the lag on the shutter causes me to miss the shots I do try to take.

Probably this...

cool I'm really glad they've included that option, cause if the new iphone ticks the right boxes and I buy it, after the 12 months free data I may not always buy a data add on and can easily stop it using money on data

As well, what does “iPod Out” mean? Originally, during the conference, I thought they were replacing the iPod app with Videos and Music (like the iPod Touch/iPad). But, after playing around with the beta, I see that they still use the iPod app and are not separated.

would also would have loved a Global push notification dont disturbe so i can say set it for 11pm-7am for sleep or when im at work 9-5 etc.
