i don't see the big deal about all these stores beginning to carry the iPad - they all charge the same full-retail price for it, never on sale.

....unless you consider paying no tax on amazon a sale...:D (i do)

This makes no business sense whatsoever. Ridiculous. Never heard of them before (being British) but they deserve to go bust. Cry babies!

So they deserve to go bust for carrying iPods? I said their loss, but what you say is pretty extreme. "Don't cross Apple or i'll wish you go bust"....lol!

If you sucked Apple's dick any better you'd be a porn star..

Costco's stuff are actually pretty good. They don't sell the cheapest items but quality items at a good price. And their customer service is A1. They have really good organic salads, organic carrots etc. They have some good wines and cakes. Most items have unlimited return policy. I once returned a trash can that quit working (auto open lid) after two years and no questions asked.

I don't understand the hate against Costco. They are for the consumer and sell high end items at a discount.

Citizens of Humanity Jeans Co. is suing Costco, because they were selling their jeans for 104.00. If you go into Nordstroms the same jeans go for 300. Costco is sticking to their guns and won't reveal their third party source so are fighting the thing to the CA supreme court. And all they had to do was say Citizens of Humanity Jeans bought from xxx on the store shelves.

This hate for Costco is truly pathetic, over iPods.

Chalk?! There seems to be an agreement from those posting to the article you linked to that it now tastes bland, garlicky, greasy piece of cheap meat.

Guess it was meant to save money so they could give employees high pay and health insurance... That is until Costco quit health care providing and opts for the Government Exchange, better known as Obamacare!

I wondered how long it would take before someone would tie this in to some kind of rip on Obama. What took you so long?

How many of you who are "so disappointed" actually bought an ipod from costco?

The reason they're doing this is probably because of their return policy. If they started selling iPads and MacBooks, if someone wants to return it because they decide "meh, don't need it anymore," they'd get a full refund. Because Costco is a big company, they can send it back to Apple. Apple doesn't want to be responsible for the people who abuse the return policy.

What about Walmart's or Sam 's Club return policy??

I know Sam's has the exact same return policy as Costco for electronics.

The Dialogue here is more interesting than the original story!

Yeah, I don't see this story as a big deal either way. For example: does anyone care if a local grocery store stops selling Reynold's Wrap? No, as there are plenty of other competing stores to go to. Heck: Trader Joe's, for example, is *always* discontinuing products.

Nonetheless, I am thoroughly amused as folks seem to be lining up to bash Costco while an equal number of people are lining up to bash the Costco-bashers.

Funny Stuff.

They are in upscale neighborhoods in bigger cities. When I lived in Kansas city there was one in independence. I went there like 3 times a week.

If I was on the Costco board, I'd being doing a full re-evaluation of the management after this decision. That's a sign of failure through weird megalomania; all they are doing is sending more business to other places.

Stupid.

Like consumers will go "OH, Costco doesn't have it... well, won't buy it then."
...yeah, right.

LOL, that's the first time I've heard Independence called "upscale" and I'm pretty sure it'll be the the last.

At it's core you have a very legitimate case , but you seriously aren't promoting it well by hijacking an off-topic thread.

We moved from a Costco locality to a bj one and we tested a bj. No comparison. We nowndrive 60 miles to the nearest Costco.

I work at a Costco and I was told that yesterday we wouldn't carry any apple products anymore. It was only because Walmart is going to carry laptops/iPads and apple won't sell us either.

Hey Costco is right here. They deserve the full same product lineup if they are willing to promote and be competitive.

Apple here ought to give them the ipad in limited #'s and more as supply widens.

PS, if the tables were turned, Steve Jobs would do the same thing if he ran Costco. so why shouldn't they do this to Apple?

Sort of poor-man's Makro. They sell the s**t made in China that no-one else wants, not even the shopping channels, as well as large packs of baked beans, etc. Cash only.

Your comment brought back memories of the Simpson's "Pulp Fiction" parody - "... I went to the MacDonalds in Shelbyville on Friday night ....I never heard of it either ...".

I was a member for a year, used Liverpool and Edinburgh. Let's just say, you don't go to Costco unless you really have to.

I don't know what Costco is like in the UK, but what you described is exactly the opposite of Costco in the US. Costco is absolutely one of the best shopping experiences there is, and their products are top notch.

Since you speak like you know, how much revenue is the iPod to Costco?

If you cannot provide this, then how can you say that the iPod is 'very good revenue [sic]' for Costco?

You're looking at this close-mindedly. Check out post #121.

And? They're running a business, it is their job to find the cheapest prices for their customers.

In most places, there are laws in place to protect the three-tier system. Costco wants to skirt those laws. Also, I work for a distributor. ;)

But why even have a law to protect that system? I am not familiar with laws and the three tier system when it comes to alcohol and such, but isn't that limiting a business opportunity when they force them to follow such a thing? Don't mean to go off topic.

I wonder what the reason for Apple not selling to Costco is. I mean, Sam's Club has the same return policy so I can't see that as being a problem for them.

You go costco show the man.

Apple sorta sucks if your a dealer sometimes and this is sticking it right to em

viva la Costco :)

Oh and Walmart should carry products made in china - Remember Every time you buy at Walmart you Destroy America and the USA way of life . WALMART SUCKS I WILL NEVER EVER BUY A PRODUCT FROM THEM.

Its their store - they can stock what ever products they like. I doubt Apple will notice

I believe that law only pertains to alcohol sales. I own a bar on the side and can not buy liquor from Costco, has to be from a distributor. This way The ABC can keep track of alcohol sales and get their cut of the pie, here in CA.

I can buy up to 7 cases of beer for personal consumption, as soon as I hit 8 I have to fill out paperwork.

But I do believe there is no law protecting consumer goods. Nothing stops Walmart from by passing distributors of items and going straight to china for it.

Kudos to Costco. They're a ballsy company with paper thin margins, nice store layouts, an awesome returns policy and nothing but love for their members. If they can't offer the experience they want, they don't offer anything. This is a major grocery retailer who, for a time, stopped selling Coca-Cola because they didn't get the deal they wanted.

Apple doesn't NEED them to sell their products, but I'm betting they want them to (given that Costco members do a LOT of shopping at Costco). This is a typical move to get attention over their larger rivals without having to take a worse deal.

It's the people that you that cause companies like Costco to remove their return polices. If anyone didn't know, Costco used to have unlimited return on all items, but they had to reduce that to 90 days for electronics because people abused it like this person.

... that's not abuse, that's what the warranty is for!

Abuse is the people who buy a mattress, use it for ten years, and then call Costco to come pick it up and refund their money (which, I have it on good authority, happens, albeit infrequently).
