Wow, that's really odd that Costco would act like a big baby over this? They would rather drop a very good revenue generating product just because they can't get the iPad from Apple? Wow, just wow.

Actually, Costco only marks up their items 5-10%. They actually break even on the food court.

Their prices are generally lower on electronics, except when their are sales at fry's or black friday. And even then, it's not by much. Ipods at costco were actually around 20 dollars cheaper than most places.

Sort of poor-man's Makro. They sell the s**t made in China that no-one else wants, not even the shopping channels, as well as large packs of baked beans, etc. Cash only.

Your comment brought back memories of the Simpson's "Pulp Fiction" parody - "... I went to the MacDonalds in Shelbyville on Friday night ....I never heard of it either ...".

I was a member for a year, used Liverpool and Edinburgh. Let's just say, you don't go to Costco unless you really have to.

It sounds like Costco sucks in the UK -- much better over on this side of the pond.

Are you saying you are going to cancel your membership because they aren't carrying the ipod anymore? Now, my friend, you are a true fanboy. I think there should be some award given here.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

Costco has 3 months return policy with no restocking fee. For wii they have unlimited return policy. My wii is malfunctioning and I am returning it tomorrow after 2 years of use. I like Costco much better than SAMs club. Customer service is A1

As long as they still carry the jumbo Hebrew National all beef hotdog with all the fixins and bottomless soda for $1.50 I could care less about no ipads or ipods in that store.:D

Between the cheap hotdogs (and being Hebrew National they are quite tasty) and being able to feed yourself on the samples on weekends I will certainly keep going to Costco. I never did consider buying an iPod there (got the 10% discount for the old broken one at the Apple store), I go there for tortillas and cheese and frozen stuff. It also doesn't hurt that their gasoline is usually 0.10/gallon cheaper as well.

Costco is my favorite store but for apple gear I buy elsewhere. I buy items that have very liberal return policy from Costco just invade I have trouble.

If I was running Costco, I would ban your arse for life. As soon as the cameras detected your face, I would have security swarm and push you out the door after taking your membership card, refunding the fee and cutting up the membership card.

If you are serious then you are not a customer but a parasite. Ambulance chasing lawyers have more ethics than you apparently.

Well there goes my membership. That sucks too cause I kind of liked Costco.

Oh well.

I don't know what's more childish, Costco making this move or you not going to Costco anymore (even thought you like them) because they won't sell iPads.

LOL at all the psycho fanboys with their noses bent out of shape because of this........love this board.

Big Deal. I wouldn't want to have to buy an iPad Ten-Pack® anyway.

When iPad first came out there _actually_ was a multi-pack for educational institutions. I think it was a 14-pack or something like that. It would be cool of the "warehouse" stores like Sam's Club required you to buy in bulk.

I loved your post.

Sadly, they stopped a while ago :-( They sell a Kirkland Brand that frankly tastes like chalk in comparison. Guess that means they'll have to switch to Zunes...

Chalk?! There seems to be an agreement from those posting to the article you linked to that it now tastes bland, garlicky, greasy piece of cheap meat.

Guess it was meant to save money so they could give employees high pay and health insurance... That is until Costco quit health care providing and opts for the Government Exchange, better known as Obamacare!

I've grown less enthusiastic about this board as all these new people disintegrate what was a nice community. Just my luck too, because when I finally decide to join the conversation, the quality of posts just plummet.

As if that were merely coincidence.

I shop at Costco pretty regularly and I've always noticed that the iPods are largely left alone. People just don't seem to think Costco is the place to buy an iPod. They even stocked iMacs briefly but I guess those didn't move either because they disappeared a long time ago. The iPad would have brought people in though because there is so much interest.

Come to think of it, I didn't buy any of my Apple products from Costco either. It's just not the place I would consider buying an Apple in. Maybe it's because the presentation is so bad.

I'm sure its not even a spec on there bottom line to drop Apple products.

Well, that's true Mattie, but you have to look at the big picture. It's not about them making money from the iPods, it's more like if the customer walks in to do their usual shopping they'll see an iPod and say, "Hey, it's my sons birthday coming up, might as well pick up an iPod while I'm here since they have them". What this also does is keep the customer in the store longer and it's natural for them to spend more money the longer they stay, that's probably one of the reasons that Walmart is carrying the iPad. I can't count how many times I've gone to Walmart to pick up my medications from the pharmacy and while I'm waiting for them to fill it I end up walking around the store and end up with a basket of groceries. In the beginning I had no intention of buying groceries there. It's good marketing, it's not really about profit off of each product.

Costco's stuff are actually pretty good. They don't sell the cheapest items but quality items at a good price. And their customer service is A1. They have really good organic salads, organic carrots etc. They have some good wines and cakes. Most items have unlimited return policy. I once returned a trash can that quit working (auto open lid) after two years and no questions asked.

How many of you who are "so disappointed" actually bought an ipod from costco?

The reason they're doing this is probably because of their return policy. If they started selling iPads and MacBooks, if someone wants to return it because they decide "meh, don't need it anymore," they'd get a full refund. Because Costco is a big company, they can send it back to Apple. Apple doesn't want to be responsible for the people who abuse the return policy.

It's the people that you that cause companies like Costco to remove their return polices. If anyone didn't know, Costco used to have unlimited return on all items, but they had to reduce that to 90 days for electronics because people abused it like this person.

I haven't purchased anything at Costco since they wanted to buy beer directly from Anheuser-Busch, bypassing the distributor tier of the three-tier system. I have no issues with Sam's Club.
