I used this swipe gesture quite a bit. Glad to see it back in iOS 11.1 along with a battery improvement update.

I don't really get why people get so annoyed about this.

When completely disabling WiFi, location services work odd. Sometimes you just have to enable WiFi (even when not connecting to a network) in order to get precise location updates. Leaving it enabled (which doesn't consume too much battery) but without letting it connect to a wireless network makes sense. Of course, you can always toggle it completely off in the Settings app...

Some of us turn off WiFi completely so we do not get tracked unless we want to be.

I'm all aboard full Wireless disable - One button for Wifi (On/PartOff/FullOff) and same for bluetooth and RFID. All must be able to be disabled completely.

I love this, and it will be more useful for those with iphone x that will not be happy with the new swipe up gesture to go home and swipe left right to app switch
I hope in ios11.x to bring 3d touch on wifi or bt to shut them off

I am sorry you feel that someone is tracking you, however, if that is a concern, you still can go into the Settings application and disable WIFI. This will still turn off the radio, like it had in past.

What this really highlights is just how complex Apple’s software really is and how mindless most of the jabs at Apple are. Looking through these posts, most people are putting quotes around constraint and acting like Apple lied and is changing course.

Apple admits they bring back features due to user demand from time to time, there is absolutely no reason to assume that Craig is lying. 3D Touch is still unique to Apple devices, and it’s obviously more of a software feature than a hardware one.

Every single person who makes snide remarks about this is just outting the fact that they are the ones living in a “reality distortion field”.

Oh, and for those asking why iOS 11 was released without this feature, are you actually saying the OS as a whole should be delayed for this one use case? How selfish can you be?

Look, there’s gonna be an iOS 11.1 and eventually an iOS 12. Guess what, there’s going to be new features in each of those OSes. Should companies never release software until they plan on no longer supporting it so users can know they have the most “fully baked” version of the software that’ll ever exist?

I have an iPhone 6, so no 3D touch, but it appears I can now hold on a press (e.g., in the new Control Center) and get further functionality. What's the deal with that? That's obviously something different from 3D touch, right?

On iPhone X, you just swipe at the bottom of the screen. Much quicker, front and back of your recent apps; it's only about 5% of times where you want to go 5 or 8 apps back trough multitask (it's quicker looking it on home screen!).

I SAW THAT iPHONE X GESTURE AS MAJESTIC; ANY BODY ELSE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY MENTIONED IT SO POORLY?

Well, I don't use 3D Touch pretty much at all, but it's nice to hear someone at Apple is listening. Good job Graig. :apple:

Craig should be CEO of this company (not just because of this email)
Being the leader of a company requires far more than just charisma, and a knack of implementing good features. I’d say Tim is doing a great job by letting people like Craig, and many other team leaders within the company shine. Many of them are new to us after Steve Jobs Passed on.

The company is doing darn good, considering all of the negative press and gripes over (often trivial) issues.

Hope you can toggle it off. Hated it. Wouldn’t work when I wanted it to and always activated when I’d be swiping to go back.

Oh Craig, PLEASE make it optional. It's actually annoying when you accidentally enable this crap while playing...
Agreed. I would regularly trigger it accidentally while playing certain games (e.g. Inks) which require a thumb on the left edge. An option in the accessibility settings pane would make sense.

Bring back the wifi toggle!
OK, but put the "Off" toggle behind a 3D touch gesture. The current wifi "disconnect" toggle does what I want 99% of the time.

i love that gesture too, but for people not like me or you, maybe instead of scrolling in safari will always go home and would be frustrating for them, so an option like this, will be a welcome one, if you can disable both gesture (but not both at the same time)

I think the plan was to slowly remove 3D Touch gestures and then 3D Touch all together if there wasn't much blowback. With this recent development, 3D Touch will be around a little while longer but it's obvious Apple's looking to remove it in the long term.

Thank God. I hate gimmicks like 3D Touch. Literally useless. Things we manipulate with touch don’t need pressure sensitivity. And 3D Touch actions do not aid in productivity. Just like right click is useless. And pushing harder for thicker lines in drawing or increased playback speeds is not natural.

Samsung phones lack pressure sensitivity and their phones are modern works of Art.

How hard were you swiping when going back? Because it actually requires pressure exerted just on the edge. This would mean when you initiate a swipe you'd actually be pausing on the edge and applying pressure before continuing the swipe motion. A fluid swipe without pressure would solve this issue for you.
No, no. Every interaction requires manhandling the phone.

Glad to see this’ll make a comeback.

Heh, I never knew it existed on my 6s. Double-clicking the home button has always worked for me.
