Maybe on the X

Considerations for the X is the only thing I can think of at this point, so the question is why they had to not bifurcate it for the regulars. And will the X get it after it's patched back in?

Considering the X isn't out for months, they could have also left it in with the X being broken for a while, and patched it before launch.

The X is their flagship. Period. Everything has to be perfect for it. They’d rather do it the way they did than mess something up for the X (my thought anyhow).

For people who think it's awkward or non-consistent for the 3D gesture app switching, I would suggest lowering sensitivity of the 3D touch in settings. Also, to activate it, you just press on the left side, to "peek", then proceed to swipe, it's flawless. I think most people are trying to swipe to the right without initializing the "peek". You can also just "peek and pop" to see all your apps, and not swipe at all.

It's much more convenient and quicker with one hand, than reaching for the home button.

Huh, I wonder what the “constraint” was.
They’ve removed the home screen from the app switcher.

They did this because with iPhone X multitasking gesture it doesn’t make sense

But how do you 3D Touch into multitasking from home screen without that?

They have to sort through some of these consistency issues

I love you Craig!! Where can I write him to about supporting Apple TV 3 with the CC app? Or can anyone write him about it? Thanks!

Aside from the edgy commentary: The technical issue was when playing games, the 3D touch was accidently enabled in the middle of the game when someone pressed the screen harder in the moment of playing it. I believe Apple was trying to come up with a solution where the 3D touch would be disabled at certain times but it might end up being an optional feature

I freaking love Craig and hope that he replaces Tim someday! He's about 8 years younger than Tim so it's quite possible. I've said it before and I'll say it again: He somehow embodies the best of old Apple and the best of new Apple.

I'm super happy executives in Apple are actually answering questions from customers and Apple actually puts out statements regarding certain issues, for example.

It feels like a slightly more open Apple and that can only be a good thing.
Quote: "Response from Federighi: Hi Adam, We regretfully had to temporarily drop support for this gesture due to a technical constraint. We will be bringing it back in an upcoming iOS 11.x update. Thanks (and sorry for the inconvenience)! - craig"

That is indeed quite a change of tone since Steve's timely, but mostly terse and unapologetic retorts.

Craig has always come across as a likeable and approachable individual, with just the right amount of humility.

Oh man, this is great news. I think Craig has an excellent way of communicating what Apple is doing behind closed doors.

Now fix the rest of iOS 11’s issues!

No, I do not pause, if you start with enough pressure from the edge of the screen (with no case on), it will activate.

I will try and explain. I am right handed, and mostly use my phone one-handed in my right hand (I tend to carry things in my left hand (like my daughter)). Now, the case I have on my phone has a small edge that sticks up to give the screen some protection from being laid flat (as I’m sure a bunch do now-a-days). Now using the phone right handed and one-handed, I can’t do the 3D Touch control for multitasking, but that’s fine.

When I move to left handed, I tend to (with the way I hold my phone) slide from the case onto the phone, which tends to skip the edge where the 3D Touch area would be. I also tend to use more pressure with my left hand just because it’s my non-dominant hand. If I try to use it, because the case is right on the edge, trying to get the shortcut to work seems to be flaky for me, I basically end up sliding past the activation point.

Now, when we remove my case, which happens from time to time to clean it and I don’t always get it back on right away, when I use my phone one-handed (and in my left hand), I’m activating the shortcut 9 times out of 10 just because of how I use the phone.

Basically, TL;DR: I can’t use it from my right hand and in my left hand I just use to much pressure and the case defects me from using it so when the case is off, I use it all the time without trying.

And with my thumb always being around the home button, I don’t see the need for the shortcut anyway. Wish I had the money for the X, as that makes way more sense to me than the other shortcut.

Wow, that ended up being longer than I expected… sorry about that. Hope that makes sense.

That's ok, thanks for the detailed response! I do what you do from time to time (case on/off situation) and juggling it between hands, I think for you it would just be a matter of re-learning what you're doing with your hands/muscle memory and in that regard, it should work fine.

But best thing they could do is add a toggle in settings somewhere to turn 3D touch app switcher on or off, so someone like yourself doesn't have to re-learn or worry how much pressure/the way you're handling the phone when navigating that left edge interacts. That way people who want it win, and people don't want it can just keep double tapping the home button and not have to worry about it :)

Not saying you have to, but I'd strongly consider the newer Apple TV. If you don't have 4K, I bet you can find some good deals on the regular Apple TV 4 this holiday season. It was a massive improvement over the laggy Apple TV 3 and supports a lot more streaming services.

I'd be careful with that wish. We have seen the financial success of Apple under Cook's leadership.

"Being good at one thing is no guarantee you'll be good at something else."
- Michael Jordan the player speaking to Michael Jordan the owner during drunken hallucination.

"He's right you know."
- MJ (played by Morgan Freeman) the baseball player to MJ the owner during same hallucination.

"Shut the hell up, I'm Michael Jordan dammit!"
- MJ the owner to the other MJ's in the hallucination

Moral of the story... everything sounds more important in Morgan Freeman voice.

Thanks for the input! I am SO getting the new Apple TV but since there's still no release date in Mexico, I would like to use the CC Remote with ATV3 in the meantime.

Yeah they need to make 3d touch for intuitive. I hardly ever use it because i forget its there. Still gonna wait before upgrading to ios 11. It seems they removed some stuff that people liked.

I thoroughly enjoyed the progression of this post, lol.

Yeah, I don't want him to replace Cook now, but I hope they take a look at him when the time comes. I'm not one of those Cook haters.
