Out of curiosity what video card upgrade should i be hoping for on the new MBP line? I havent been following the latest tech for ages now and i got no idea what the fastest mobile GPU's are?

I'm always done alot of gaming on my MBP and continue to hope to with the new one when it (finally) comes out.

Look up what's being used in Alienware laptops (Dell sells it now). That should be top shelf video cards/memory.

I hear ya. I live in America and here MacBooks are insanely overpriced!

LOL. You have no idea how much a macbook can sell for here in India. I sold my 2008 Black Macbook a week ago for 1088 $ !! ;) :)apple: I love Apple :apple: ) :D

Hey there, been reading for a while in the wait for the new MBPs. Still have some patience left... but it's running low. Especially after reading this April rumour. What do you say, is it fake?
When the name of the game is "waiting", even >>Feb. 26<< feels like it was... oh idunno, about NINE days ago. [peruse the subsequent replies for more rewarding reading]

Is what fake... the date? Who knows... at this stage it seems not entirely unrealistic to lower one's expectations, time-wise. [some of the specs displayed there have already been refuted sufficiently, and i sure hope my MBP comes with a Core i7 processor... and not merely some i7 "process". :D ]

Not a good guideline at all. Alienware has historically been able to achieve the edge by using desktop components that are squeezed/adapted for size but wouldn't really work as laptops for many people (besides hardcore gamers). Portability and heat be damned. Their current top of the line configuration uses Crossfire - hardly something you can ever expect to be used in a Macbook Pro.

We'll see. They are a good builder though, so I'm sure they have some ideas how to make it right.

for god's sake don't buy an alienware laptop. such a ****ing stupid niche, laptop gaming is. Look at it this way - if you want portable gaming to play the newest games at high settings, you will have that thing plugged into power because it's battery life is going to be laughable. Not really a laptop anymore. If you want to do light gaming, you don't need to buy alienware because then you're just throwing your money away on unused power. Either way it's a stupid purchase.

Are the only people actually considering buying an iPad those that don't own an iPhone already? It just would seem like overkill to have an iPad, MBP and an iPhone at this point. I can see purchasing later down the line in the 2nd/3rd generation when design improvements are made and functionality increased. However at this point it seems like people are willingly signing up to be guinea pigs for a piece of hardware that remains quite questionable.

Are you serious dude?

I have used an iphone from day 1 and it's small for really playing around. I fly a lot and watching movies on the iphone is just ok, the iPad would be the best, light weight and very portable. MBP would be for business and what else the ipad won't do. With the iPad only being 1.6lbs and carrying a MBP, that would be no big deal. Pull out the ipad for the plane or pull out the Pro for work. You can never use enough electronics!

So basically, you want to spend $600 on a movie player.

Well, I want an instant-on picker-upper web browser that fits under my coffee table - will spend any reasonable amount. Got any ideas ?

Any Windows laptop using suspend/resume mode.

Hey I needed a late night laugh.......thanks!

No need to LOL on Windows 7 sleep mode - my desktops wake faster
than my LCD displays attached to them.

(After hitting the "wake button", when the screen is visible
on the LCD it's ready and usable.)

Now they do, but try the same experiment in a year when their registry is all polluted. For that matter you are talking about desktops - laptops have networking and all that jazz that takes time to activate. Not to mention the fact of opening the actual screen. What I need is effectively something I can grab, lookup an actor on IMDB and then put away. Or drag with me to the kitchen and keep around for recipe info while I'm chopping vegetables and the chunks are flying around. No windows laptop (nor macbook for that matter inasmuch as wakeup is much better) fulfills that function right now.

I've had Win7 on my HP since October. This thing wakes up just as quick as a mac. My cp can do all those things you want to do. Wakeup is quick on win 7

How much longer do we have to wait? What is going on?

Well if I sound like a mixture of an impatient teenager and a small shop hardwood flooring business owner talking to his employees - it's because I share our common anticipation of the long overdue refresh of the MBP line.
Looking at best buys inventories gets a little old to decide whether you should hold off buying a laptop or not (i mean it was fun in July, but by now....sorry).
Well, I'll wait - and remind myself that it is about quality and not speed...fine...well I wrote a review on my blog about quadcore laptops and the mac update if you're interested what goes through my mind once I pull out my draing board.

Hmm, so let's see... you're saying that Windows wakes up *faster* than it gets infected?

http://www.apple.com shows iPad is going to arrive on April 3. After April 3, the front page is going to have 'iPad is here' sort of ads.

So unless it is a really silent upgrade, I doubt if there is a chance to showcase any new hardware upgrades on the front page till end of April or sometime in May.

So, we are either looking at silent upgrades not worth mentioning on the front page or upgrades that won't come until after April.

Oh no, think that would be pretty retarded. You'll be able to do so much more like for me, work on my business using one of the iWork programs. There is a lot I will be able to play with say while on a plane where sometimes I don't feel like dragging the laptop out. Plus it will be fun with some big games or music...
