No need to LOL on Windows 7 sleep mode - my desktops wake faster than my LCD displays attached to them.

Bummer they didn't fly you all the way to Japan to show off that "feature" in the Windows 7 ad. (Must...shill...harder!) ;)

Because Windows 7 was your idea! :p

http://www.apple.com shows iPad is going to arrive on April 3. After April 3, the front page is going to have 'iPad is here' sort of ads.

So unless it is a really silent upgrade, I doubt if there is a chance to showcase any new hardware upgrades on the front page till end of April or sometime in May.

So, we are either looking at silent upgrades not worth mentioning on the front page or upgrades that won't come until after April.

That makes sense. So why not do a price decrease on existing "old" MBP's. Give us something!!!

Their 17" model vanished a couple of months ago, yet the 15" models still existed.

I wonder if they're dropping the line due to comparative cost... at least for some models, but I'd rather it be because of an imminent refresh.

Seems best buy removes the intel i7 logo from macbook pro computer!!!!!!!!!!!

This seems very logical to me. I add we probably don't see an update until WWDC so Apple can talk about it for Fall sales.

The Mac Book Pros will be updated yearly now that the iPad is here

I started losing hope that it will be released before the summer. This iPad thing seems to be competing with the MB and MBP, and Apple wants the iPad to gain some momentum.

If that's their intention, then why not say so? They would prob pick up a few sales from those waiting. (I for one am waiting to pull the trigger on 2 MBP's and a bunch of other Apple stuff to go with them).

For the chart junkies among us, according to macrumors Buyer's Guide the current lineup--having gone 273 days without an update--is now the oldest in five years. Only once since 2002 has the powerbook/MBP lineup gone longer: That was the April 2004 Powerbook, which survived a whopping 287 days.

Two weeks to go and we'll have an all-time longevity record--now there's something to get excited about!

I would think it would just get a small box on the front page, perhaps replacing the 'Aperture 3' advert at the moment? Therefore not detracting from the iPad noise.

Anyway.. bring on the next tuesday.....

Silent Upgrade?

I'm new here, but I've been following along with this discussion for the past few weeks. I'm contemplating a new macbook pro, but not under any rush to purchase so I can wait. I think the issue of whether or not we'll see a widely publicized upgrade is an interesting one. While a few people have commented that there wouldn't be a desire to detract from initial sales of iPads, I wonder how much cross over there really is in the market. The iPad seems to have a particular usefulness, simple tasks, entertainment, etc., whereas the Macbook Pro serves a rather more substantial purpose as a full fledged computer. I'm not sure releasing both in near proximity of time would hurt either. That said, releasing them both and showing how they might seamlessly integrate with one another could be a great pitch to those interested in a MBP to also get an iPad. I'm not sure many getting an iPad would be conviced to add another grand or two for a computer, but if you're already in there spending that much, another $500 isn't so bad if there is some benefit. They might also consider running the iPad at a discount for those who purchase both to improve sales, I know that at one time iPod Touch was available either for free or substantially discounted with certain student promotions. Given the estimated profit margin per unit, it might be feasible, and help move more units in the first quarter. Just my thoughts, personally I'd probably pick them both up if I got there, I can see them having some shared purposes that would make owning both pretty cool.

OS update

Been following this since my old PB died the 1st of Feb. No fun.

I haven't noticed anybody mention the likelihood that a rev of the OS would probably be needed to support the new hardware. I'm holding out until 10.6.3 is released, seems to be very close, before I decide to buy something else.

I'm going to take it one step further and say that they won't update it until after the Macbook+free ipod deal. So......., I believe they'll be updating after September. lol

Hmmm ... if more than a month is their idea of "imminent", then it's no wonder so many Americans pour scorn on Best Buys. ;)

Well the site does mention that they will be getting restocked on the 14th... I guess we'll have to play the "Tuesday" game one more time. :(

Funny, I had made those exact same longevity comparisons a few weeks back. What's even funnier is that the longest surviving PowerBook you mentioned (April 2004) is the one I'll be replacing when the new MacBook Pro comes out, whenever the hell that is!

I found it satisfying having the top-of-the-line for the longest back in 2004. Now that same statistic is coming back to haunt me, making me wait for the new 2010 machine.

Freakin' Apple...

is it not more likely that they'll simply put them up once they make the iPad pre-ordering available?

cannot access apple site...wish not but have to be network problem :p.

opera turbo can access ...

was excited for a moment

Most of us

So I, as a lot of you have been sitting around plucking lint out of our belly buttons for the last 7 or 8 Tuesdays waiting I'm embarrassed to say that I really hadn't defined what I was waiting for. So I just did that and now I actually know and the anxiety is gone (although I enjoy these threads). I'm buying when a new MBP is available OR the current ones drop in price significantly. It's that simple. I'm not switching to PC and I can wait. I'm simply not paying top shelf for June 09 gear. But I'd take it at 40% or greater markdown. So that's how Apple gets my money.
