I bought a MBpro in june 08 and the logic board failed. I had apple care but it isnt covering due to some (very minor) denting around the cd slot corner, and I'm not about to dish out 1200 in labor+parts. So, not very happy about how apple handled that...
:apple:

My 2007 MBP logic board failed too, but it was fixed for free because that was a known defect of those MBPs. Don't know if yours was one of those defective models, but it certainly warrants a little pushback on your part.

lol. It takes 2 seconds to update the store, anything could happen tbh. But the MBP's will over-shadow the iPad.

Guess you haven't been around long enough to notice that with pretty much every Apple update, and certainly the major ones, the store goes down for a couple of hours while they publish the changes to all the servers. Then bring the store back up when completely propagated.

Even for the Aperture update a few weeks ago the store was down for a bit.

How much time do we have before we give up hope completely ??

Well once again it looks like a no show for the new MBP. A buddy of mine at work has a hackintosh, seems like way too much effort to set up IMO but as he kindly pointed out this morning, seems to be the only way to get OS X and new tech.

Wish there was better news for us this morning, I agree with the posts that absent an update today it wont be until after the iPad release (3g) version, so June or closer to back to school time.

I figure now I'll go ahead and order a new hard drive for my original macbook (core duo) and just see if they do a fall release after the back to shool promo. If they wait till June, then no way they will do another this year. Oh well, my macbook is slow transcoding audio files, but it works.

Those signs don't mean anything, it's just an error on the merch team's behalf. That happens all the time at my Best Buy (I work there), and I constantly have to correct them. They have two kinds of red markers - On Sale, and As Advertised. Usually if they run out of one kind (not in the store, just in their hands), then they will just use the other rather than go grab some more. As you can see, that computer is in the ad (note the yellow price tag with "As Advertised"). I would assume it's just a mistake. Also, there's no such markings on the Apples at my store, and I would know - I'm the "Apple Expert" (i.e., they decided I should be the one in the computer dept to make sure that we sell plenty of Apples).

Yeah, they are not in the ads, and they are the same price so it doesnt really mean anything

but whenever i ask the apple expert at a bestbuy, i usually get a similar answer to the one u just gave me...

That is just sad, isn't it. Sitting with money to spend, and Apple just can't deliver..... :(

I run OS X 10.6.2 on my ThinkPad's. Works great really.

Please don't take this the wrong way. I want an honest answer. How is OS X better/more reliable/(convenient?)/easier-to-use/seamless/ than Windows 7...or XP, whatever.

I would really like to know because I want to get an MBP Pro 17" WUXGA, which was rumored to have been released today (Tuesday) actually. I like the eye-candy and I love the fact that Windows runs on a Mac without having to hack into anything vs. the other way around, even though once it is set up, it works flawlessly.

I am dying to get one if it has an IPS screen, which every last screen of every one of Apple's product lines now incorporate, including even the forthcoming iPad.

Thanks a bunch! :)

I wish... the first person who attended me was not helpful at all. He said there didnt even have to be a connection between the physical damage and what was failing with my comp. Anything more serious than a scratch (in my case a small dent) voids apple care. I went again, and a more knowledgeble tech explained to me that in older models that are not unibody, it is likely that a hit can work its way and crack the layers of the logic board even a long time after the incident happened. I'm still a little iffy that there isn't proof but im just trying to find a way to make money off the rest of the machine.

That excuse certainly wouldn't fly in the UK. For a portable computer to fail as a result of what could only be termed as "reasonable wear and tear" would be unacceptable and would mean that it wasn't fit for purpose. A portable computer, after all, is likely to have the occasional knock by virtue of the fact that you take it out and about with you.

I'd kick up a real fuss at the "Genius Bar" if I were you making sure as many people as possible heard my complaint;). Think they would change their minds about it quite rapidly;).

Cheers,

jahman

I'm curious...are most of the people posting in this 79-page long thread new to Apple and how they do things? Are you really going to run out and buy brand-new, revision 'A' Apple hardware? And those of you unwilling to keep waiting for said hardware revision...is your usage scenario so flexible that you can just up and jump platforms to Windows at the drop of a hat with no loss in capability? Odd.

I'm waiting as well, simply because I'm looking to pick up a few current-gen 13" MBPs at discount prices when the new ones come out. But I still don't see what all the distress is about.

For me, the internal workings of OS X make a lot more sense, and create a more conducive environment, than does any version of Windows. That alone is worth the price of admission for me. Being better/more reliable/(convenient?)/easier-to-use/seamless/ than Windows is irrelevant in my case, since I simply do not like Windows.

Yes a hackintosh is way too much work, I have just got it running on an AMD machine and it was a huge hassle. No ati cards really run that well with it either.
Intel and Nvidia would be best to do such a thing. But i came to a conclusion, that it's not worth the time, nor looking to get all the little details working just for the best OS in the world. Sorry.

Just buy a mac save the time.

no update until WWDC wouldn't surprise me

last year the prices of iMac's and MBP's were also ridiculous compared to Dell/HP until WWDC. then they were cheaper, then a bit more expensive until the late 2009 iMac refresh. MBP's became too expensive around September or October again.

I REALLY wish they would hurry up and release new models. I'm due for a laptop upgrade at work, and I'm trying to hold off so I can get the new model instead of getting a current model that will be outdated within a couple weeks of getting it. I already had to tell IT to pass on me this time around for upgrades. I can't put them off forever!

HURRY THE HECK UP APPLE!!!! NEED NEW MACBOOK PRO!

According to Macrumors Buyer's Guide, it has been 281 days since the last time MBP was updated. Next Tuesday will be 288 days, which means the longest MBP refresh period ever.

The longest one is 287 days.

I think Apple really ought to break with the habit of a lifetime and pre-announce the release of the updated MBP. It doesn't seem to have done their sales any harm so far but I think the uncertainty will start to have an effect shortly if they're not very careful.

I only want one to have a bash at developing an iPhone app so I suppose I could just buy the current machine but I'm loath to buy a C2D machine when an upgrade really ought to be available.

Come on Apple, out with it!

In the past year the back to school promotion starts exactely at the macbook pro update's day?
And in 2007 and 2008.

I am student and I would like to have a macbook and an ipod touch

it's true really. i built an i7 desktop and found i could put snow leopard on it. running on one of the best motherboards with a crazy fast dvd drive and gtx 285 powering both w7 and 10.6

honestly osx is the only thing holding my computer BACK, because apple are ****ups about their hardware support and i can't use radeon's new 5xxx series

i can't even afford a mbp at the time anyway but it's really annoying that apple has developed an unwarranted ego about keeping to themselves on updating hardware and selling old crap at unrealistic prices. this entire computer i'm on now is light years ahead of even the nicest mac pro's available but i'm still curious to see what the do with their portable line. only because i may have to move into or buy a notebook for a second computer within the next year

noob question

OK, let's say I purchase a new Macbook Pro today from Apple. What is the longest time frame I can return it for an upgrade when it comes out? Does it have to be within a week, a month, what is the time period I am able to return it and get the new model?
