These speculations of the MBP update have been around since Q4 of 2009! I'm heading off to university next year and I'm making the switch from PC to Mac and would loveeee a core i7 MBP, lets all pray it comes out before the new school year !!!

I'm leaving for a year in Afghanistan (contractor) and I've been hoping I could buy a new MBP before I leave so I don't have to worry about it getting damaged in the military postal service. I leave in a week now, and have pretty much given up. Even if the DID announce them, there's no guarantee they would be available right away. One good thing, my 4-year old MBP still works like new, looks new, no issues with it!

(It is the ONLY laptop that survived one year in Iraq, in a squad filled with Windows geeks who all laughed at me when they saw I had a Mac. Every PC that went over there suffered some kind of damage, from either the dust, the sand, the heat, humidity, etc. Yeah, I was talking sh*t at the end of the year.)

Most important, you're back home, safely.

I stopped by the apple store in Tampa tonight, sadly nothing new to add to the rumor mill... but talking to the reps... they all seemed quite certain that there was an update to the MBP line last September... which would suggest the current line-up is only 5-6 months old... That isn't consistent with the macrumors buyer's guide...it says the update was back in June (3 months or so difference).

They were most likely thinking about either the MacBook or iMac which both were updated in October of last year.

The Buyer's Guide is correct - the MBP has not been updated since June last year... It your Apple Store reps are anything like the ones in SLC they're hardly "in the know" or even up to par on basic Mac facts / selling routines. I've gone to the store multiple times and recieved incorrect or at least not wholly accurate information... Not that Apple needs to hire fans in their stores, but I find it a bit annoying after applying at the store and being essentially passed over for someone who doesn't even know the differences in the mac lines *sigh*.

QUICK CLARIFICATION

I finally went into my local Apple Store here in San Jose, CA and purchased my first MBP. After chopping it up with the employee for a little bit, he actually informed me that the return/exchange period in case a refresh ever does come out is 30 DAYS (as opposed to the two week period everybody's been saying). That was a done deal for me. I purchased my 2.53 13 inch with my educational discount, and am ready and willing to pay a restocking fee within the next month if apple does finally decide to refresh.

But to those on the fence about waiting, I love my new (and first) MBP. No regrets, and its a relief not having to wait from Tues. to Tues.

I second that experience! Perhaps fans just don't make good salespeople, and vice versa!

The current macbook pro 13incn is awsome.i bought it last week its my first mac.It is great screw the update that might not happen anytime soon.unless you need all that new power, this core 2 duo is just fine.

So? Maybe that means no new MBPs for another 31 days then.

;)

I went ahead and purchased my first mbp. I went for the 1199.99 13in. I called around to my local Best Buys and asked if any open-box models were available and found one.

I ended up getting $200.00 off the retail price for it being a open box model. At first they only wanted to give me $100.00 off but then I showed them the model on Apples store for $999 refurbished. So they matched that. They even gave me another $100.00 off for student discount. So I ended up paying 899.99 for this laptop. They gave me a new copy of Snow Leopard. They also had an extra magsafe power cord and gave that to me as well.

This mbp is performing great. I was getting frustrated from waiting for each Tuesday only to be let down. Now if the new models do come out this Tuesday or that Tuesday, I wont feel cheated at all since I think I got a great deal on my new mbp.

Btw, this laptop is really fast. My wife has gotten tired my hearing the word Mac come out of my mouth. But the first thing she said was, "Wow that Mac is really quick." Now she is wanting one. :)

I might have to do this. I've been waiting in a desperate panic since mid-February and I REALLY need new computer.

CNET: Five future MacBook must-haves

So, how can Apple top this? Here's five ways.

Five ways to best a brilliant design:

•Powerful processors: no surprise here, but this after all is what everyone is waiting for. The Intel Core i7 and Core i5 processors provide plenty of power while their 32-nanometer technology goes easy on power consumption.

•Greater graphics: this is a another no-brainer. Either ATI or Nvidia will do. Intel is offering better integrated graphics, but let's presume that Apple will continue to shun Intel integrated graphics in favor of standalone, or "discrete," graphics from ATI and Nvidia. The key: adequate pixel-pushing power but not so much that it melts the aluminum.

•Cooler Connections: USB 3.0 would be nice since it's backward compatible and a lot faster than 2.0. Then there's the razor's edge of cutting-edge technologies called Light Peak. Intel and Apple have both been working on this. Light Peak can carry data at 10 gigabits per second in both directions simultaneously and Intel expects it will reach 100 gigabits per second in the next decade.

•Wider wireless: 3G/4G built in. This is a longstanding item on the MacBook wish-list. Alas, Apple appears determined not to include 3G as an internal option. Maybe Apple is waiting for 4G or maybe Steve Jobs thinks Apple laptops are not suited to the 3G world of the iPhone and iPad.

•Slicker storage: Hybrid drives are already standard fare on gaming machines, why not laptops? Put the operating system and apps on a relatively small (and inexpensive) solid-state drive and the rest on a larger hard disk drive. Also: an option for 1 terabyte of storage would be nice.

Other wish-list items might include a Blu-ray optical drive and an upgraded iSight camera. And I'm sure readers have plenty of other suggestions.

I have this little App called "Changes Meter". It keeps track of changes to all sites you put in there. If Apple's is down, I'll know it within a minute. Just got the message that Ebuyer's 17 incher is now sold out.

At least tomorrow is another good chance: the last update in the recent history taking as long as the one we're waiting for took 288 days (2005/1), offering the new Pro's. Guess what: tomorrow makes it 288.

Correction: The longest MBP update took 287 days.
Also today is day #287 since last update.
So, it is now officially the longest MBP update ever.
