'dpastern' posted a rumor in the comments section for the "MacBook Pro Update Due for Launch as Soon as Tomorrow?" article:
"As I stated in an earlier thread, I ordered a MacBook Pro 13" last Saturday. I was told that it was out of stock local, but it would be ordered, should be in by this Thursday, and could pick it up then. I already paid for the 13" outright, pending delivery. Between last Saturday and today, I decided that I'd go for the 15" instead and rang my local supplier today to see if this would be OK. Well, well, well, interesting news.
I was basically told that there is no stock at all for any of the macbook pro units. None. And, their Apple sales rep had told them that a new range of MacBook Pro units WILL be introduced next week. This guy was 100% certain.
Intel's recent stuff up advertising i5/i7 MBPs, special prices in different countries, lack of stock in different countries, and an overdue update all point to something about to happen. When resellers are telling me that new units are just around the corner, and to hold on, as I'll get a better unit for the same, or better price, is onto something.
I'm hedging my bets on next Tuesday, 23rd March. And I don't usually hedge my bets.
Dave"
It's just another Tuesday... Still, I hope he's right.![]()
what were the old prices?
OK, let's say I purchase a new Macbook Pro today from Apple. What is the longest time frame I can return it for an upgrade when it comes out? Does it have to be within a week, a month, what is the time period I am able to return it and get the new model?

I guarantee there is an update coming, as read below about the new updated Australian Apple laptop ads and new pricing, and it looks like Apple Australia has either deliberately or accidentally released new ads with new prices. Looks like the Land of Oz has leaked the info first. Firstly, its widely known that Apple will be releasing updated MacBook / MacBook Pro / MacPro / MacBook Air hardware along with updated pricing, but it seems Apple for some odd reason has released the new ads with the new Australian pricing. Despite the ads showing the new pricing, naturally they point to the existing older version on the Australian Apple Store.
I have taken the liberty to hunt down the links to these genuine Apple ads reflecting this new pricing as proof:-

Its been said that these ads are old ads - whats everyone think?
Those are the old prices from just before the white MacBook and new iMacs were released. They've since gone down to A$1599 for the 2.26GHz 13" MBP and A$1999 for the entry MacBook Air.
My money's on a stuff-up. The Aussie dollar is actually stronger now than it was when those new machines were released so I doubt there'd be a price increase.

Over here in the UK we have Curry's as our kind of "technology" shop... just thought i'd post this web link http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/r/macbook+pro/0_0_0/ which is a search for macbook pros.
You can see that they are all (except for one, which is out of stock) advertised with OS 10.5. When I phoned up to ask about this I found out that these are actually all 2008 models (i.e. pre-SD card slot) and they are completely out of stock of 2009 MacBook Pros. When I asked when they were getting more in, they said that Apple would not tell them when they could recieve their next shipment of MBPs.
Bit suspicious?
I'm not saying this means much of anything, but I checked my local Best Buy's in Central Florida and none of them have ANY 15 inch MBP's. They can still be ordered through the website, but none are available in Central Florida right now. Unfortunately, the 13 inch models ARE available (I'm looking to get a 13 inch).
Now, if we all went out and bought a 13 inch MBP and ran the stock out, maybe Apple would roll out the updates. Then we could just all take the "old models" back for the updated ones and we'd all be happy again!
If it were only that easy huh? Here's to wishful thinking!
I can't see them releasing a new MBP until the Ipad has been around for a while.
Why would they bother releasing two important new products so close together?
more speculation here for what is is worth:

I'm leaving for a year in Afghanistan (contractor) and I've been hoping I could buy a new MBP before I leave so I don't have to worry about it getting damaged in the military postal service. I leave in a week now, and have pretty much given up. Even if the DID announce them, there's no guarantee they would be available right away. One good thing, my 4-year old MBP still works like new, looks new, no issues with it!
(It is the ONLY laptop that survived one year in Iraq, in a squad filled with Windows geeks who all laughed at me when they saw I had a Mac. Every PC that went over there suffered some kind of damage, from either the dust, the sand, the heat, humidity, etc. Yeah, I was talking sh*t at the end of the year.)![]()
