a bit off-topic but Bootcamp was great.
Install windows, use windows drivers and play all games like for like on a windows.

Crossover is a subscription (yeah, its a pay once, but it only gives you updates for that one year of payment, so effectively it is a yearly subscription...) and it just annoying.

I guess that opinions differ but I like Crossover more than I ever liked Bootcamp. The constant rebooting was annoying and I got a Mac to get away from Windows. :).

The Crossover renewal is cheaper than the initial subscription and they have a Cyber Monday sale every year (essentially the cost of a new game).

How does game performance compare between the two? I seem to remember Bootcamp performance as superior to any game running under native MacOS.

Using bootcamp and Windows 10.
I tested the benchmark on a Mac Pro 7,1. 16-core, 96GB RAM, with Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB.
It ran stable capped at 60fps at 1440p.
It can do 30fps at 5k (2880p), see photo.

Saw the 9060 XT benchmarks at 1080p over on Ars. The charts compare PC GPUs in the $350 USD range (both current gen and the discontinued but still popular models).

Here’s hoping MacOS-flavored CP2077 drops soon.

I’m curious how the base model M4 Pro Mac Mini will compare? (This model is $1,199 USD at Microcenter and Best Buy stores match this price)

So the answer is no.

Maybe this fall with the release of macOS 26...
Yeah, maybe so.

Also from today:

“MetalFX FrameInterpolation generates an intermediate frame for every two input frames to achieve higher and more stable frame rates, and MetalFX Denoising makes real-time ray tracing and path tracing possible in the most advanced games.”

That the base game is done (after all it runs on the Switch 2) and they are sitting on it until Metal 4 is released.
Until Metal 4 is released for the public. You can already download Tahoe beta, Metal 4 and GPTK 3 and work with it. They’re not sitting on it and start working after Tahoe is released.

By sitting on it, I mean not releasing it.

Maaaaybe they are rewriting shaders for better performance so that you don't need upscaling to hit 60fps for 1080p w/ "basic" RT. MetalFX Denoising is the same as Ray Reconstuction on nvidia?

Maybe it’s getting close to me upgrading my 2016 MBP, but it’s likely the next one will be the equivalent of the Air, if they're still making those, or is that now the low end MBP? 🤔

I can live without gimmicks like Raytracing, and I usually turn all that fluff off. As long as it looks decent, plays better, and doesn't crash, I'm happy.

At first, I felt the same way when the result was struggling performance, but when the horsepower is there, this and related approaches are impressive realism environmental enhancements.

I will say, for this generation, Alan Wake II and Cyberpunk are the only 2 where RT is night-day difference. [on PC at least]
