No mention of resolution, but nice nonetheless.

Or use of frame gen.

Yeah could be.

Given the point of this tweet is put put the Mac version of the game over and the specifics aren't mentioned, I'd guess this is at 1080p, no RT with MetalFX image reconstruction and framegen. If framegen is similar to the DLSS before MFG came along it's likely a ~50% uplift, meaning ~80 fps with framegen off. I'm presuming that the image quality is decent, if they're showing this to the press so it's likely at least a 540p internal render (i.e. balanced) and hopefully a 720p render (quality). If so, this could suggest a playable frame rate with RT enabled, but we'll have to see how well path tracing/ray reconstruction works.

Not looking forward to seeing the performance on base level M chips though...

They showed the game running at 60fps (with frame gen) on an M4 Air. I think it’s going to be fine…

60fps with FrameGen, and it is probably safe to assume at least quality upscaling? 1080p? Without RT (let alone Path Tracing)? Yeah that isn't great.

What's not great about that for a base level fanless machine?
At least put it in its category. No one is expecting RT at 60fps on a machine that doesn't even have active cooling.
I mean maybe it would have been more impressive if it was getting these stats on a M1 Air with 8GB of RAM.
It just seems like it should be doing better, regardless of if it is passively cooled or not.

I’m not sure that’s a realistic expectation.

What’s wrong with just enjoying a playable framerate on your computer?

If I had a M1 Air, how would I know it runs at a playable framerate? (I have a M1 Max so I assume it should run fine, but have seen other games like Control and AC:Shadows run poorly on said machine).

I guess you’d wait for the game to be released to see? How does CP2077 run on other 5 year old fanless laptops?

it runs on integrated graphics in systems with no fans, not well, but it does run.
But how well does it run? I genuinely don’t know.

Edit: found this. It’s chatgpt so be warned. M1 Seems fine. Especially given figures are for crossover.
Note the HP, Dell and Lenovo have active cooling.

The Surface Go 2 (2020) which IIRC is the same year CP2077 came out "can run" CP2077 at roughly 15fps. I don't think that is playable, but I am somewhat a GPU perf snob.

Agreed 15fps might be OK for Minecraft but not anything requiring an active response. And if it’s average, that means at times it’s gonna be below 15…

To be fair, I did point out that Intel iGPU's could run this game ages ago and that Apple Silicon should have no issues. Of course I was ignoring RT/PT at that time. Now that there is hardware support, there is a (rightful IMO) expectation that you can turn those things on and still get alright performance.

You can look back to YouTube videos when Game Porting Toolkit was first released as people got CyberPunk running an various Macs. I seem to recall the M1 Air was in the 20-25 fps region with 720/low settings. Perhaps this could just about hit 30 fps with a direct port, but I suspect it would struggle to maintain a consistent 30 and you wouldn't want to use framegen with such a low rendered frame rate because the input lag would be very noticable.

I remember a time when 30fps was workable for me with small dips below and game playing, when that was the best I had.

In the 90s I dreamed of 30 fps on my family's PC. I got used to playing games like Duke Nukem 3D at ~20 fps...
Yes I played games at 15fps. I remember 2017 when a new game: Ark: Survival Evolved came out, fight/tame dinosaurs, I was on my Windows box with a decent graphic card, and it was practically a slide show! 😳 My 2016 MBR was out of the question, however with a graphic card upgrade, and some optimization by the developer, and I spent many years in both the group and solo play on The Island having a great time. This developer has since come out with Ark: Survival Ascended, with mostly a remastered landscape and I’ve been tempted to go back. There might be an issue with all my favorite mods from the original, either not updated or not working with this new version.

Yeah I grew up with 3dfx and matrox. Game graphics have come a long way.
I remember the introduction of 3D cards - sadly, I was pulling for PowerVR - at the time, games were typically patched for individual 3D technologies as D3D didn't exist - and I really wanted to play Ultim@te Race (which did look amazing) , WipEout 2097 and Rave Racer (when was cancelled). In hindsight, the fact that I bought it on clearence for 70% off should have told me how well more general support for PowerVR was going...

Turned out alright for them a bit later as PowerVR was picked up for first the Dreamcast and then the iPhone/iPad (until the A11 chip)
