This animation has been there since the beginning. Does it in messages app.
I know, your point being? I said they use it more in watchOS 4. Judging from the beta preview page, the workouts app now uses it, and the new Siri watchface does as well. Don't know if there are more.

Just please, Apple, don’t make my millions of watch straps incompatible with the new watch.

The crown will stay .... can't see them getting rid of one to the items that makes the watch look like a watch. Besides, it doesn't need to go, it works very well.

Just received my Garmin Fenix 5 on monday and have yet to turn my AW2 on again. As an athlete I cannot depend on the AW for anything serious sports related.

No way will they do round. EVery single app would have to be redone and updated.

Not necessariy. You're assuming the usable screen would be circular when Apple could simply have usable rectangular space be default, and leave it to developers to take advantage of other space if interested.

An always-on screen would require a massive upgrade to the battery. Probably not feasible even if the entire device were twice as thick. It was possible with the Pebble due to the e-ink display technology, but for a color, animated display, that's basically not an option with current technology.

Don't hold your breath.

You are not taking into account improvements with OLED, and capabilities of a smart watch--"always on" doesn't mean "always on," e.g., display can shut down or dim, etc., when it senses certain situations, and can use "low power" mode, ala iPhone.

If it stays, it does so for the same reason many here argue against round watches -- design aesthetics. There are better, more ergonomic ways to accomplish what it does, while also limiting mechanical parts. I personally find it a tedious little control, which has a documented history of being prone to manufacturing defects, and maintenance issues. Not to mention that it functions inconsistently between apps and OS. It's also a symmetrical, such that it alters the design appearance and/or functions differently for left and right handled customers.

I agree with your last point ... I said from day one that the crown should have been in the middle with a button above and below it

Seriously apple you have so much money and u make the best products and I love iPhone but u guys need to stop keeping the same design for more than 1 year the iPhone 8 looks exactly like the 6
What do you want, a triangle phone?

You misunderstand apple. They don't do change for change's sake and have said so explicitly numerous times.

Gee, if only designing an actual successful product were as easy as saying it on a rumors site. smh

You can, you just don't want to.
I tried to running marathons and trying to use it for sleep tracking always left me stressing about its battery life. It shouldn't be that complicated. Its a nice status symbol watch but hardly good for anything that involves some serious time given to sports.

Really excited for this, I've owned the gen 1 and now the series 2. WatchOS 3 really improved the battery life and I can get 2 full days out of the watch. Seeing a new form factor without compromises sounds great.

Keywords: without compromises

So you're saying it would work for you if its battery life was better?

Given some of Apple's patent filings and other rumors, wouldn't be surprised if new the "form factor" included either extra battery and/or secondary functions on the band, which would allow for Apple to offer standard and XL use versions, esp. useful say for workouts with LTE version where you had GPS and streaming on. I imagine the XL band would be a lucrative (for Apple) $100 or so add on. And a great differentiator between Gen 2 and Gen 3. Now whether the existing band connection can be modified to make this work or not I don't know.

They make things thinner for the sake of making things thinner.

Yeah you're right, best get this site shut down as there's no need for a discussion forum, world ended.

Can't blame Apple for you choosing the wrong device for your needs.

Personally I would like a slightly larger screen. To me the current line up looks like child (38mm) and female (42mm) but not male (44mm?).

Also the blood sugar measurement would be great. These two improvements at a fair price and I would upgrade.

From a fashion point of view, this is Apple's biggest mistake with the Watch. The people who like to wear watches, wear them because it's a fashion statement or it adds something to the wardrobe, that's why you might have a few watches each for a different occasion. But the Apple Watch looks like someone strapped an iphone to their wrist. It's ridiculous, the ultimate sign of a nerd. And the watch is still not good as a fitness or a medical device.

I'm secretly hoping that Apple would get back to the drawing board and create a beautiful watch first and just add a few useful Apple-esque tech things to it to spice up the deal. Maybe even drop the whole "Apple" name and go with a completely different watch manufacturer for the design, sale, and manufacturing, but keep the "designed for an iphone" logo. Right now, as a fashion item, the Watch has failed completely, imho.
You are entitled to have your own opinion, no apologizes needed

Prove it. First iPod, iPhone, and iPad were their fastest selling products to date.

iPod 3g was first to have usb. Earlier ones only had FireWire, only very few macs had FireWire and almost zero Windows PCs sold had FireWire.

iPod 3g was released in 2004.

You alluded to it as support for a circular face, when it’s not, since that animation has always been there.

There will never be a circular Apple Watch. Text in a circle is a terrible user interface. Apple Watch is used as a watch same as iPhone is used as a phone.

I was hoping there would be information about Apple Watch and the glucometer. Is there any chance?
