Yea, prob is no iMessage, no Apple Eco system no iOS. I tried it for 3 weeks , Huge fail

I think this is exactly the piece that analysts forget. Once you have more than one Apple device, switching to Android or MS becomes just that much more difficult.

I've been an Apple fan and user since the mid 80's, so I've got far too much invested in the system to switch and have a bunch of products that don't necessarily work together cohesively the way that Apple has figured out.

And at my age, I really don't care about edge to edge screens, which frankly seem like a mistake to me from a user perspective. And I use my iPhone for work, so really the thing I want is for the apps and phone to work and sync between my iPad, rMBP and iMac and AppleTV.

If Apple is under the impression that they can release a minorly updated 6S in late 2016 and make it a huge seller, they're sadly mistaken. If that's the case, I won't be upgrading from my 6 Plus anytime soon.

See, Apple has a tendency of being late to the party with new features, but when they finally arrive they're awesome. At least that's how it used to be. At this point Apple is moving from "fashionably late" territory to just plain rudely late to the party.

After upgrading to the latest generation Apple rarely releases a new feature into its next release that makes me want to upgrade right way. The lone exception was the 5S with Touch ID. I had the original iPhone, skipped the iPhone 3G and upgraded to the the 3GS, then passed on the 4 and 4s and went from the 3GS to the 5. I did go from the 5 to 5S like I mentioned previously because of Touch ID but I skipped the 6 and am now on the 6S. I'll pass on the 7 and may even pass on the 7S unless something really compelling like wireless charging gets added in.

I think smartphone users are generally on a 2 year (or more) upgrade cycle at this point. That's not Apple's fault. Smartphones have matured such that it's rare to find a new feature or set of features so compelling that you feel like you've got to have the latest and greatest right away. It takes a few releases before enough new features are there that I feel like upgrading is worthwhile. Most of the people I know feel the same way.

Back in the day, the iPhone felt like a big deal. There was only one new model each year and people wanted it. It's all very boring.

The first time Apple unshackled itself from AT&T was the first time iPhone drew broad interest. People on the more reliable networks hated the iPhone, and the fact that Apple was stuffing AT&T down the throats of the USA. It was a toy to be admired and loathed from afar. The iPod and iPod Nano were more popular.

Now, Apple is a addicted to thinness and size over functionalism. Much as it hates Google, Apple is aping the business method of that company too much.

The iPhone can be current and useful beyond the portrayed 2 years - six years on, the iPhone 4 is still great. So, if people do not like the thinness craze, they will hang on to their older phones, effectively killing Apple's selling cycle.

Then there is the economy; when it falters, people will indulge less in a near $1000 cellphone every year or two! The buy it upfront scene now will make anyone think twice about buying a new iPhone - or any smartphone - as often as the makers of the devices want!

I held an S7 Edge in a phone store a couple of weeks ago because I was curious. It just... didn't feel quality. It might have been the fact that it was a display model, but it was a working device. It just didn't feel good in the hand.
And what about this OLED hype? The colors look like on lsd and if you don't hold the screen exact right, it's turning green to yellow. That iphone screen is way better!

As I've said elsewhere, some of Apple staff do need to be looking for the next innovation, but most of Apple staff should be taking care of their commodity products by making sure they have the latest tech for the best cost. Apple quit doing that on their Mac line years ago. Its like they can't be bothered. They better get it together with iPhones or those big stock option plans are going to be worthless in 10 years.
Exactly because it's very clear their focus is the iPhone! It's clearly their biggest pushed product and I guess rightfully so since it's their best selling.
But it's sad because I'd love to upgrade my Lapptop but they're just so slow to update some of their other product.

What goes up must come down. At some point there will be an iPhone sales drop / that is obvious.

Likely hood is that
iCloud and other cloud service integration is the file system "workaround." iOS is not going to get a full-blown OS X-style file system. My guess is that iOS 10 will focus more on better communication between applications and multitasking (perhaps allowing two instances of the same app so that users can have two Word or Pages documents side by side).

Sadly, yes - that is the case. iCloud is far too limited with the sharing aspect. Apple need to extend iCloud by allowing users to share their directories to other iCloud users.

I have two iCloud accounts. I'd like the ability to share the iCloud directories to each other...

Also, it would be great to have personalities like BlackBerry, i.e., for personal, and work - and be able to use different iCloud accounts for each personality. At the moment Apple would like users to two multiple iOS devices for these cases.

Apple is suffering from its arrogance and greed. They have become slow and confused. More nimble companies are going to eat their lunch.

And for those of you "too invested" to move on from Apple, try again. I used to think I was trapped too; it's not as hard as you imagine.

Linux Mint and flip phones well before I touch 'Windows call center Nadella', or Beaver teeth Page's OS. I try to avoid helping monopolies when I can. :p

You should have posted this 1st. Then the other 400+ would have been unnecessary. :apple:

I downloaded the 2007 commercials of the original iPhone just to reminisce. I really do miss Cover Flow! We lost in by iOS7. For all the credit Ive gets, I preferred Forstall's skeumorphic design. Not into the flat design Ive tried copying with WP. By iOS5, they added nonsense apps like Newsstand and such. I really do miss the simplicity up until iOS4.

Apple started losing me even way before most people here were running out to buy their iPhone 5 and 6 series. Probably by 2012-2013 when iPhones were available in more carriers and Android was improving, I knew Apple had nothing to offer except proprietary hardware, software, and services to keep me stuck in the ecosystem. I prefer cross-platform apps...

Hopefully, most people are realizing this now. Some here can have their ecosystem or whatever rah rah to Apple. RIM had overrated and overpriced plans for encrypted emails and BBM (iMessages before iMessages), look what happened to BlackBerry. When companies like Nokia, Motorola, and BlackBerry stops innovating, look what happens. No longer cool or exciting. Industry is becoming stagnant.

Mac was a hit because no one had ever seen a computer like that (well, Lisa was close but wasn't it like $10k?). iPhone was a hit because no one had ever seen a cell phone like that. Now, everyone makes a cell phone like that. Apple needs another something they make like no one else for a while. They're now going back to the late 80s, early 90s when they thought they could do no wrong and if market share was slipping away it's everyone else's problem and Apple will win because, well, they're Apple. That attitude almost bankrupt them. There must be others there (and out in the marketplace) who have innovative ideas; they need to listen to them. It can't be that Jobs was the only one who thought of this stuff.

Another hot topic from Ming-Chi Kuo, congratulations! You words earn us money!
