Why would they go about production of your laptop if you do not have the funds to complete the purchase? An authorization charge is basically a way to check that the financial information you provided works and that you've got the money for it.

So, no one else would buy that ready to go laptop if the finance fell through? There's month long line of people who could then move up to get that machine.

An auth is the same as a cleared charge in that the money is gone - unavailable. If they are still days away from actually shipping it, why are they even talking to your bank yet? I know these are rhetorical questions, as no one here probably knows Apple's true procedures, but whatever their process is, it's not customer friendly.

They probably run the auth early so that they can contact you and get things resolved before it's ready to ship, so that your order does not get delayed by payment.

In my case I have a UK-based MacBook Pro with BTO specs including upgraded CPU and GPU. I also chose a US Keyboard layout, instead of UK layout. If they were to build that, before checking if I have the funds available, and it turned out I didn't and couldn't pay for it - you think they'd keep that laptop laying around until someone orders the same exact specs and US keyboard layout?

Anyone able to help or advise with this, today is the final day for processing the order before it is automatically cancelled by Apple. I have spoken to both Apple and PayPal but still neither are offering up a solution for the payment issue...

stephen.:
Yeah, PayPal advised the following:

stephen.:
standard (cash)

stephen.:
not finance

stephen.:
If I knew this would be a problem I could have just paid directly via my debit card

Margeret:
If the payment authorisation is not granted then the order would be cancelled, do you have another card at all you can use. As you can call the Service Team on 0800 048 04 08 and they can change the payment card

stephen.:
Unfortunately not because the funds are in my PayPal account

So it appears that neither PayPal or Apple are able to process my order.... Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers,

Hey sorry for what's happening to you. Any chance you can transfer the fund yourself like a bank transfer?

Unfortunately it takes 5 days for a transfer from Bank>PayPal and up-to 5 days to transfer back from PayPal>Bank :(

Time is ticking... last thing you could try would be to transfer them the money and email them the confirmation you did the transfer. I'm sure they can help.

I wonder if your machine will travel west or east from China. Also, I loved my time in Belgium. You have a beautiful country. :)

Thanks ;)

Got a Shipment notification this morning with estimated delivery of December 22.

I have no idea of how it will be traveling though.
Being part of the people who waited a few weeks before ordering, it feels funny trying to micro-track the delivery.
I mean that's what all the hard-core early adapters do, who ordered minutes after the keynote, but us? lazy-adapters ;)

Having said this, I saw there's a departure scan from Shangai, which is the latest UPS tracking line.
And now I will stop checking this until the package arrives.
Really. Yes Really :D

I'm not sure if that would really help, as the order will still be declined when they attempt to take the funds as they won't be available in the PayPal account... and for whatever reason don't seem to be transferring from my bank...

This has been the worst (well, no actually second worst) buying experience I've ever had, I'm literally trying to chuck my money at them and neither PayPal or Apple seem overly bothered or helpful.... wish someone would throw £3k+ my way, I'd definitely be more inclined to help....

Call and ask them if it's a possibility. You have nothing to loose! If you transfer them the money they will have to honor your order anyways

Sorry, I'm a little confused in what you are saying. Transfer who the money (PayPal?) as that would mean PayPal have to pay the deficit on my behalf (which obviously they wont).

Call apple and tell them you want to pay via a Paypal transfer and see what they say. Your payment method will be updated accordingly and they will stop trying to take the fund from your PayPal account.
You are running out of options here. Just trying to help

I appreciate the help, I'm just a little unsure what you are meaning. So what am I asking PayPal to do? Pay the balance on my behalf and then I'll square up with them later??

Nah you call apple and ask for their bank details. Then go on your PayPal account and do a bank transfer and send Apple the confirmation you did the transfer. Once the money is on his way not sure if Apple can cancel your order.
If you don't wanna take the risk then re-order asap.

I don't have the full sum for the order in my PayPal account (only £2300) so I wouldn't be able to pay the order in full and would need to transfer money from multiple sources which would no doubt cause issues itself. I'm going to give PayPal a ring... again... and see what other options are available to complete the transaction.

I can't believe I'm having so much trouble with this, usually its the other way and trying to get a refund but not when willingly wanting to give someone £3k+ :(

Oh so are you using PayPal financing or something?

Sorry just confused as I was reading the convo you had with Maggie. You said it's cash and you not using financing. But if you don't have the full amount available on your PayPal account how do you expect the transaction to go through?

Three days since authorization, still sitting at processing. Add another three days from PFS to actual shipped, followed by 5-6 days of travel, its still two weeks before I'll probably see it. This is getting tiresome.

As far as my understanding is, PayPal use your PayPal balance first and then access your confirmed bank account/debit/credit card for anything beyond that (or straight away if the PayPal account balance is empty).

My order is to be paid for using "cash" and not through PayPal financing. Previously, and for every transaction I've ever completed through PayPal they simply take the money from my confirmed bank account or debit card. This has been seamless for years with purchases made across a variety of websites, including Apple who I bought an Apple Watch Series 2 from only 6 weeks ago. This is the first time I've encountered such an issue :(

PayPal have escalated the issue and are going to get back to me in the next hour.

I only use Paypal when I have to. With them in the picture, you are adding a second layer of something that could go wrong - Paypal could screw things up, and your bank could too, on top of that. But I've never heard of your specific problem like this though. Weird.

Should it really take 8-9 days for the last 2 steps? I guess I'm lucky my card had the pending charge on Wednesday and was PFS this morning, but was hoping to have it next Friday.
