Ok, here goes. Dells are cheap, always have been. That's because they're the 800 lb. gorilla of the computer world and they don't mind selling at basically zero profit to get market share.
I use a dell core duo laptop at work. I hate it. I don't care how cheap they make it; I'd still buy a mac. Why? I'll explain.
1. Macs may be more expensive, but I can still afford one. I'm a student, but it's not like I can't afford the mac. Ultimately, the price difference doesn't mean much over the life of the computer. If that makes me rich and spoiled, then oh well.
2. The OS is more important than every hardware component combined, at least for me. I'd rather run OS X on 3 year old hardware than XP on modern hardware. The OS matters more to what I do every day than the latest graphics card or processor. Maybe that's not true for you, but it is for me.
3. You pay for design. It's accepted in architecture, cars, landscaping, furniture, and basically everything else. Why is it so hard for some people to accept it with regard to computers?
