Probably because Jobs and Forstall though that was too complex, like quick access to commonly used settings, which we didn't get until they were both gone.

It'll take time to get it right, figure out what's in common and what's user specific - but I think it's a feature that would be highly desirable.

I find it difficult to get excited over these video (and picture) leaks. All of them are showing the space gray back. If a video comes out showing a gold back, then i'll get excited.

This is going to be a really lame upgrade.

Faster processor? Big deal, they do that every year anyway.

64 bit is a big deal. And it is the first step to making iOS devices closer to the power of a computer, something Steve may not have been considering but came from 'the bean counter'.

Longer battery life? Who cares, nobody should be using their tablet all day anyway.

Some of us use them for work, in settings where we can just plug it in.

But you know what, if you aren't impressed the answer is easy. Don't buy it. There is no gun to your head, no law demanding it

honestly, if this thing is for realz, I think the groupbreaking bit is the WEIGHT. The ipad 3/4 are just too heavy, with retina display and the bigger battery. If apple can do what they did with iphone 5s, and weight I'll buy this new big ipad in a second!
+1. This is a very big deal for me too. I don't have an Ipad - I almost bought one last year but I found the full size Ipad to be too heavy and the mini lacked retina so I thought I'd wait for the next iteration. This might be it. I really want to see the weight of the whole thing and not just of the back plate.

It's about time they make the iPad lighter and thinner. I think in terms of comfort the very best iPad was the iPad 2. I didn't really get excited about the iPad 3/4, because despite the retina display it felt really heavy and uncomfortable compared to the iPad 2. So I knew that I was gonna hold off until technology makes it possible for the iPad to be light and thin again. It seems the time has come. :)

Shut up and take my money

Really, when will people realize that it doesn't matter what "improvements" Apple makes to it's products...people will still be lining up to buy them. 64 Bit processor...ambitious upgrade that will take time to fully take advantage of. Better camera...something EVERY new tech gadget has. Smaller dimensions...go buy new accessories. It's consumer choice, and sadly there are still plenty of people out there that love for Apple to make their choices for them. The iPad is a great product for what it is...a giant iPhone. If you actually want to be productive on a tablet without having to work around the limitations of the device, then get a Microsoft Surface.

I love the shape of the iPad Mini and would have upgraded from my iPad 3 if it weren't for the non retina screen.

My 3 has served me well, but it's time for the "thinner/lighter/magicer" 5 :)

Video is all in German. Good thing I watched this other one to help understand it! :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlATOHGj9EY

lol, that's a really funny video. BTW, the guy in the original video doesn't say anything interesting. He just talks about the size and form factor differences between Ipad 4 and Ipad 5 and then goes on about space gray color being available in iphone 5S, mini 2 and Ipad 5. He doesn't try to compare the back plate of mini 2 to that of mini 1 but from what we can see in the video they appear to be pretty much identical.

128GB iPad 4 is already available.

Sure, but what the anti-Apple commenters REALLY meant is that Apple should make 256GB iPad. Without 256GB option no one is going to buy iPads, because they are totally useless.

Doubling down on security? Really?

Tim Cook told us Apple was going to double down on security....i guess not.

Iphone 5s and the plastic iphone were not well kept secrets. 90% of new features were exposed early. And now the ipads are going through the same.

So, obviously, doubling down has failed...unless Apple has made this part of their marketing process to keep interest high.

  • Why would you need a 41MP camera on an iPad
  • Why would you need NFC on an iPad
  • iOS 7's multitasking is perfectly fine
  • The iPad already comes in 128GB
  • The fingerprint sensor literally just came out a week ago, give it time
I prefer the iPad 5 over the 4 because:
  • It will decrease in all dimensions
  • It will weigh less
  • The FaceTime camera will be improved
  • The rear camera will be improved
  • It will have a faster CPU
  • It will have a faster GPU
  • It has stereo speakers
  • It has a rear mic
  • It will probably have that M7 chip
  • It may have more RAM
  • It may have TouchID
  • It may have 802.11ac
  • It looks better, in my opinion
  • Buying it would clearly aggravate you, which would make me joyful

The last bullet is the biggest reason I will buy the new IPad and mini IPad.

Apart from the new case I'm not sure if we'll see any huge changed. NFC is unlikely since the new iPhone didn't get it. I'm betting we'll get the finger print scanner, maybe new colors. 128Gb would be nice but I'll only give that a 50% chance of happening. Of course they will be faster, better battery life and camera but I don't see any ground breaking changes.

There must be a large portion of people that totally missed the fact that you can get an iPad 4 now with 128 GB of NAND flash storage...

No one knew about 64 bit processor if im not mistaking. They put out stuff that was obvious and kept all the really good hardware stuff secret.

Ive never even used 256gb of space in any of my computers or anything close. Nor would I want to. Im not a horder. I get that the picures are retina but...i think 256gb is overkill for this time period.

iPad mini is sort of Apples budget tablet, if it gets Retina then i guess wont get touch ID. I don't think packing Retina and touch ID in and still retain the current price point will work....
who told you that iPad mini is the budget tablet of Apple??
that's just what you think..
iPad mini is just the small version of iPad,many people actually prefer the iPad mini to full size iPad,regardless of price and apple knows that.
I've never seen in any ad or article that Apple refer to the mini as cheaper version or budget version.it might not get the touch ID which is fine, but it will and should get retina screen because at that price point it needs it to compete with likes of NEXUS 7 2013.

Super thin side bezels? Major downgrade. I guarantee you there will be issues with accidentally using the touch screen while holding.
Don't worry, they already ruined the touch recognition when they released the iPad mini.
I've gone from 100+ WPM on my iPad 3 to less than 70 WPM since they released that update with accidental touch rejection. It constantly confuses fast typing as an accidental touch and ignores characters.
Why would you need a 41MP camera on an iPad
You don't need 41MP, but good cameras are important. People said there was no point in putting cameras on a tablet, but I use mine all the time.
Why would you need NFC on an iPad
NFC gives you really quick and easy pairing with other devices.
iOS 7's multitasking is perfectly fine
All you can really do is play music in the background when doing something else on the device. You can't run multiple apps at once.
I know it's not popular here, but Microsoft's Surface is far ahead of Apple in this regard. And you get multiple user accounts for each device too.
And while I prefer the 4:3 aspect ratio of the iPad to the 16:9 or 16:10 of other tablets, especially in portrait, it's not really suited to multitasking.
It has stereo speakers
Are they really "stereo" when they're still coming out the same side of the device when you're watching videos?
You lost all credibility when you put a 41MP camera on your wish list. That's an absurd number of pixels for any camera and serves no purpose whatsoever other than to market it as a gimmick to gullible folks like you.
It's actually not. 41MP means that you can have really nice images in good light, and is equivalent to a 6.4MP camera with large pixels in low light.
DSLRs moved away from having large photosites a long time ago, and yet every year as the resolution goes up, so does image quality.
When viewed at 100% size, it may appear that the higher resolution camera has worse image quality, but when you actually view the images at the same size, the higher resolution camera looks better.

  • Faster processor? Big deal, they do that every year anyway.
  • Super thin side bezels? Major downgrade. I guarantee you there will be issues with accidentally using the touch screen while holding.
  • Smaller form factor? Who cares, it's not smaller by enough to make it more portable, but it does mean that any previous iPad case won't fit.
  • Longer battery life? Who cares, nobody should be using their tablet all day anyway.

When are they going to add some real specs, like 41MP camera like Nokia has, or NFC like Samsung has, or multitasking, or 128 GB, or some function for the fingerprint sensor (which may not even be included) besides the super rare function of security from intruders?

So far there is literally zero reason for any logical person to be interested in this product. It's actually WORSE than the iPad 4. This is what happens when you trade a visionary like Steve Jobs for a beancounter like Tim Cook.

Ignorant troll. Plain and simple. Go back under your rock.

I was tempted to rant, but so many others have done such a great job already, I'll pass.

One question, though. You say that Apple "traded" Jobs for Cook. Unless the entire world is delusional and you know something that nobody else does, Apple didn’t have a choice but to fill Steve’s position after he died.

And “replacing” him is impossible. It’d be like replacing Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan. Guys like that only come around once in a lifetime, so they had to settle for someone.

I’m not defending Cook, but let's give the new regime (he and Jony Ive) a chance to prove themselves before condemning them.

I tried the surface and hated it.

All I care about is whether ipad mini will have retina or not. I love my mini but I want dat retina.

Let's talk pricing. $1000 (after taxes) for a 128GB iPad with 4G/LTE. WOW. That's a pocketful of cash for a tablet. Most notebooks cost far less. No doubt, the iPad 5 will inherit the 4's pricing.

I'd sure rather spend $600 and stick in a $40 64GB microSDXC card (or better yet, have multiple 64GB cards or even soon-to-be 128GB microSDXC cards).

Why do you think Apple doesn't put a memory card slot in the iPad? (apart from making oodles of profit from raping the consumer on the tiered memory pricing scheme)?

All I hear is whining in your post.

- Faster Processor means faster software and games. That matters to people
- Such epic fail on the bezels. The software and touchscreens already account for this and don't take holding as input.
- Smaller Form factor and weight matters, especially those on the go.
- Longer battery life matters to those that use it as their main device.

The one thing that Apple needs to add to the iPad is pressure sensitive screens.

Lastly, Steve Jobs had many fails as a visionary. Just go look up every Apple device ever released. There are lots of fails in there.

Sorry but your post is just all about you. No one cares about you.
