FaceID is looking at 3d, plus heat maps and maybe just maybe blood vessels, (some of the infrared sensors can read info just below the skin) so FaceID can be better than TouchID.
Knowing this and reading about touchless fingerprint scanners has me really interested. There is absolutely no reason why the amazing array of sensors could not only read your face but also read your hand and fingerprints.
Not saying they are going that route this time, but actually biometrics under your fingerprints is going to do away with fingerprints anyway. Flat fingerprint scanners can be spoofed, 3 dimensional biometrics including blood vessels under the skin of your entire hand can not be easily spoofed.
This tech could read hands and multiple prints in 3D and include under skin heat and blood vessels which is way more secure and no worries about wet or greasy hands.
I found one of people who was named on a patent for touchless fingerprint sensing biometrics, had worked for Apple right after.
