I can't seem to do the "look at people in front of you trick" with my confirmation number. It's got numbers and letters in the following format (I'll use "N" for number and "L" for letter instead of giving you my actual number):

LLLNNNLNNLLLL

I've tried playing around with the digits where they appear with no luck. Any suggestions?


When you log in with your "complicated" number (see above), the order status page displays a five digit "order number"... and when you log back on with that order number and do the distraction stuff, it should work...

Still waiting in San Mateo

I ordered my 16 GB Black on Friday morning, 10:30 am PST, in San Mateo, CA (94403). I've been checking status ever since getting the emails and was backordered still a few minutes ago, as were all of those ordered at this store.

Someone else here mentioned that they had ordered on the east coast at 1 pm on Friday and had received the shipping notification at 10 am this morning EST.

If what the AT&T folks said is true, that we were all put into the system in order and will have our orders fullfilled in that order, we should see shipping notices here in California very soon. Otherwise massive amounts of frustration will be felt.

I know we can check the availability at the local apple store...but aside from bugging at&t everyday with a call, there really seems no other option but to pre-order.
 
I called AT&T this morning just for "fun" and the rep said that my order was still backordered. I asked if she had any idea when new shipments come in and when it may actually ship. She said that there seems to be shipments every couple of days and to just keep checking the system to see if there has been any change. The rep then went on to tell me that there is a great demand for these phones and that over a million had been sold. That being said, all of us who have a DF order are counted in that million and it seems that no one at AT&T really knows what is going on.

This thread, AT&Ts weird site, and their reps all giving different information make it sound worse than it is. It's only been a couple of days since the release. Not weeks like this thread makes it sound like. And how it feels.

Go to AT&T and get a DF, than watch your Apple store if you want. You can cancel a DF.

Although I don't know if Apple can cancel a DF for you or not. Anyone know?

I am pretty sure that you cannot cancel your AT&T DF order at an Apple store. Apple seemed limited in what they could do with activation (I had a friend who wanted to port his number and they (Apple) said they couldn't and said he would have to go to an AT&T store to do that.
 
so my mom who ordered a 16gb black, phone came in today. My order was the next order number, 16gb white and still nothing says back ordered. Although i have yet to receive and email from att saying that its back ordered. I went through and looked at other orders and they seem to be random on how they are being fulfilled, a bunch before were not shipped, and a bunch after had been shipped.
 
Hmm.. Just used the order number trick. It looks like there are 94 people ahead of me who haven't had theirs shipped. Looks like I'm in for a loooong wait.

Ordered a white 16 GB Saturday at 3:30ish.

I hope I get mine before next week; I'm going on a backpacking trip and really wanted the GPS.
 
In my opinion it seems as if there is now rhyme or reason as to how orders are being filled. I agree with thornguy that everyone (including me) is overly anxious because of threads like this, but mostly due to AT&T's order tracking website and customer service reps, which is probably reflective of a poor order tracking system implemented by AT&T.

That is a problem with AT&T's order tracking page. I didn't receive my confirmation email till Sunday night, but I was able to track my order since Friday night, but I didn't know if my order was correct in AT&T's system because it just says phone, not the type of phone.

When I placed my DF order, the guys at the AT&T store I went to (Austin,TX) told me that to cancel it I needed to come back to *that* AT&T store (not another AT&T store). I don't know if that's true or not, but if so, it would seem to preclude Apple Stores as well.
 
Well I show mine as arriving today and the fedex link said delivered. I called my store to see what all I needed to pick it up. They said they dont have any shipments in. Then I said well on my order status it shows it was delivered at 10:31 today. She said they still need to process them, so that is lie number one. Then she said it woulndt be ready till tomm. I said that is BS because I paid for this phone and it shows in and I gave her the name of who signed for it and that I was picking it up tonight. Then she asked me to email her the email I got so she could look into and that is where I am at now.

I am pissed as I have paid for it and its there but I am not able to get it? I am awaiting her awnser, I am so mad right now. :mad:

That's BS. I'd march my ass down there...
 
for all of those who say you can't cancel this is what my email says that shows my phone being shipped: "You will be notified via email when it arrives. You will then have seven (7) days to pick up your order or it will be canceled."
 
8gig Direct Fulfillment

Hello everyone,

I've been lurking here for the past week or so, reading up on all the iphone 3g news etc. I placed a direct fulfillment order for an 8gig Iphone 3g at 5:00 pm on launch day, 7/11.

I was able to access my order status at least a day before I received any sort of email confirmation, during which time my status jumped back and forth between being backordered and not backordered.

Early this morning my phone was not backordered; at about 8:30 am eastern it was backordered. I just checked my status again and it was shipped today from Fort Worth, Texas to the store where I made my purchase, which is in western North Carolina. It's estimated delivery is tomorrow by 3:00 pm eastern.

I did the little trick to check the people on both sides of my order number, and it's a mixed bag: some have shipped, some have not.

Thanks for all the great news, information, frustration, and funny comments; it's been almost as cool as I hope/expect my iphone wil be.
 
I am in the same boat. I ordered my iPhone on Friday around 11am ET because they only had 1 iPhone left and it was the 8gb model.

I also got suckered into paying for the expedited shipping.

I purchased mine (black 16GB) on Friday just before 11am EDT at an AT&T store just outside of D.C. and it is backordered. The only concession AT&T offered was to offer free expedited shipping, which I think they could still waive once you go to retrieve the phone.
