I played around with the order numbers a bit to see what was going on with other people in my area. And a lot of people were still backordered like me, but some had shipped. When I looked on tracking, all of them were being overnighted. Is that standard, because their order still just says FRT? Or do you think they just shipped out those who had that priority shipping?

I'm hoping that since some people in my area were getting theirs today and tomorrow, then mine would be shipped soon (8gb).

it was ordered around 4pm on friday in central PA, didnt have priority shipping but it was overnighted by fedex from indiana.

Im Holding my Black 16GB that I ordered from ATT DF it came today at 1....... I oredered it at 10am on Friday in Atlanta :D

$5 says dmelgar is that desperate. :)

I would be. For a phone...a really cool phone.

I called the Apple store. They said there were no iPhones in the giant FedEx truck shipment. They said the Apple inventory system is messed up. It practically sounds like they haven't received any more phones since the Friday launch.

Makes me wonder if there really are any iPhones around of if they have to build them and ship them on a slow boat from China.

I'm sure the answer is here somewhere but I can't find it (I am searching from my phone...)

Can you go into an att&t store and order an iPhone if they are out if stock, or was that an opening day thing only?

Yes. They're doing Direct Fulfillment. Order at the store, wait some unknown amount of time than pick up at the store.

iPhone 3G Sells Out in 21 States
Categories: Apple (Macintosh, iPod), Apple iPhone
Tags: Apple, phones

Looks like it's Christmas in July. The hottest gadget on the market now, the iPhone 3G is in such high demand that many stores around the nation simply can't keep up. The portable communications device has so far sold out in 21 states, according to Fortune.

Fortune says that states reporting no more iPhone 3Gs in stock are "Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin."

Apple warns consumers that more shipments of the device are on the way, and that it is wise to check an Apple Store at 9 p.m. the night before for availability. Apple also advises people to get up early the next morning to ensure the best chance of getting an iPhone 3G. Earlier today, the software giant reported it sold its one millionth iPhone on Sunday.

Well out of the 2 16 giger's I ordered on Friday at 7:30pm EST - the black shipped today and is expected to be here tomorrow. I did not pay for upgraded shipping but it appears they are overnighting it from Memphis (I am in Virginia).

The white 16 gig is still on back order as of now but I am not too worried, I think it may have shipped and was not updated.

Ordered Friday, Shipped Monday night, Received Tuesday

For the following, all times are central unless noted.

The ATT store I went to had 40 phones, only about 15 were 16 gig phones. I got in line at about 7:45 am, and had my receipt for the order by just before 10:00 am. The different employees had mentioned numerous time frames for when the phone would be delivered/received, 3-5 days, 5-7 days, and 7-10 days being the most prevalent.

As of the 14th, my order was doing the "backorder, not backorder" dance that many others wrote about. The night of the 14th, I had gone to bed with it on backorder. On the morning of the 15th, it changed to shipped and said the shipping time was 7:10 PM (PST?) from the night before, which meant it was shipped far sooner than the "Order Status" site was updated.

The tracking website says I should expect to have my phone at the ATT store I ordered it from by 3:00 pm on the 15th. So, as of this writing it is estimated that I have an hour of wait time left.

I hope this information can help some of the people who had ordered a white iPhone with some of the anxiety.

News from AT&T rep.

They said that some people that ordered them on friday got them today, that's with the freight shipping.

That isn't saying much since I was the first to place an order on Friday at my local AT&T store in nyc and my order status still says back-ordered.

ordered White 16gb on 7/11 4pm. status is shipped due to arrive 7/16 by 3pm at local store.

I check the order number and I was about #27 or 28. Seems like a first batch of 15 phones got shipped and due to arrive today at 3pm. My batch is due tomorrow.

I am not sure if this time frame still hold true but I would rather order it via DF rather than hunting and waiting in line constantly.

hi, just joined this to post on this forum...
ordered my 16 gb black iphone 10:20 on friday 7/11

got an email that night saying my iphone has been ordered. however, I can't access my status, i've tried every combination of things...the rep at the store told me that it would either be there on Saturday or Monday, well obviously not true... it would be nice to at least see the status of the order to have some sort of information

Entering my contact number (cell #) and store zip code worked for me while everything else produced an error message.

And now the AT&T Order Status Page is dead. Hmmmm...

Gee, I was wondering...

If everytime you check your AT&T order status you cause a database record lock on your order for the duration. Then along comes the order fullfillment process looking for the next order in the queue to allocate this nice iPhone the warehouse just received. It finds your order, but, oh, too bad, the record is locked. No problem, the fullfillment process just goes down the list to find the next one that isn't locked. :p

... it wouldn't really work like that would it?!!?

I'm really hopping this is true as my order status shows my phone as being in backorder (24 hours straight not going back and forth)..
and with the little trick of checking order before and after mine i found out I'm 45 on the list, i checked every single one from 1-55 and ALL were 'backordered' .. it sucks!

any shipping info on phones ordered sat?

No that's not really something to worry about. First off, the system would wait the millisecond for the record lock to release. Usually a record query will wait 10 seconds or more before timing out. Second, the record won't get locked for a simple read query. Only if the record was being updated.
