Yep go to your nearest ATT store do a direct fulfillment for the iPhone model of your choice.
Wait a random amount of time for your phone and until then, pull up a chair and start obsessing.

Should add: Don't believe anything ATT reps say about how long it will take.

Just ran the script this evening and some guy who ordered on the 18th (White 16G) had it shipped on the 19th.....one @#$% day. Still waiting from the 13th (I know that people from the 11th are still waiting). Went in on Thursday and spoke to the mgr about doing the same thing (cancelling my order and ordering a 16G white). If I did, I would have my phone by now. Sorry but had to vent when I saw this. BTW...his order was the only one that has shipped since the 17th.

How can you tell what kind of phone it is using the script?

I was one of the first people to do DF on 7/11 for bl 16gb. 9:18 Eastern time. Just got notice I will have it Monday. I was ticked at AT&T like everybody else last week. But I have to admit the phone is arriving within the 5 to 7 working days of the order.

I also got a white phone from Apple Store for my wife on Thursday. FYI Apple Site not accurate on store supplies. Call the Apple stores close to you. Just have patience.

I have to admit that AT&T and Apple are doing exactly what they said.

Now we can all get fired up when the 32gb or 64gb shows up in November and we can all start the bit$%ing again...

P.S. The white phone seems to be built well and the battery life seems to be just as good as my original iPhone.

I'm in Central Florida as well (Lake Mary). Wife received her White iphone 16GB ordered Sunday July 13th but my black 16GB is backordered.

I believe when ATT means 5-7 days, they mean business days and not actual days. At least you have your black iphone. My wife has her white iphone and I'm still stuck playing with my generation 1 iPhone......wife doesn't know I'm secretly trying to buy black 16GB iphone via craigslist for double the price.

I ordered mine at the ATT store 07.17 and talk about a shock to get the call from them on 07.19 to say it was at the store. I ordered the white. I was told at first that it would take up to 21 days to get it in.

Go to your AT&T store and tell them what you want. You'll swipe your card and pay for it at the time, and they'll give you a big long receipt with all of your information on it. (Order number, etc).

You'll then go home and wait by the computer, checking the order status up to but not limited to 500 times daily.

You'll then begin to get frustrated as other peoples iPhones ship before yours, even though they ordered after you.

You'll then begin to call AT&T trying to gather any shred of information regarding when yours will ship...You'll find no information though...

Then at a very random time, you'll check the status page and it will say "Shipped", and will arrive in most cases the next day...

...Then you'll be happy.



In short, just go to you AT&T store and tell them you want to order one using Direct Fulfillment. It's really easy and straight forward.

I ordered a 16GB White on 7/16 from my local AT&T store. It Shipped by priority overnight (at no charge to me) on 7/18 and I had it in my hand yesterday, 7/19. I had been told 10-21 days so I am really impressed with this turnaround time. I even got Saturday delivery. I don't know how this happened so fast but I am really impressed that it did.

So the white ones are shipping really fast... does anyone have experience with the 8GB? I feel like my 8gb will ship before the 16gb black ones... which might mean that 10-21 days would be lower end for 8gb and higher end for 16gb black.. with white just being too fast ;p

I think you're right. If I take that into account. It took 7 days to ship, just like they said. Even if it took 8, that would have been good to. Weird, it didn't feel like 7 days, felt more like 3 wks. I guess patience is a virtue.

When did you order your 16G? If I was you, I would just wait. I would rather wait then deal with an upset wife

AT&T will refund the shipping. That should have never been offered.

How can you tell what kind of phone it is using the script?

I called the store to speak with the mgr and asked what type of phone was delivered on this order. I also noticed last night that they must have received some 8G black models in as my two orders went off backorder (but no ship). I then queried the other orders and identified the other 8G orders as all of them (I assume) showed the same status (no 16G blacks were off of backorder). By POE and some "review", I was able to identify most by model. My store is small and only has 41 orders and here are the percentages:

15th 0/2 = 0%
16th 0/1 = 0%
17th 0/6 = 0%
18th 1/6 = 17%

From my analysis, 9 are white 16G and 1 is a black 8G!

I received my 7/11 order mid last week. but my 7/12 order will come in on Monday 7-22. Longer than I would have wanted, but shorter than I expected as far as wait times go. Both were 8 gigs.

Where is this surplus of white that everyone is talking about? I'd say they orchestrated this (Apple), but I don't understand what they would gain out of a bunch of pissed off customers, so I can't stay with that theory LOL

There's no real 'surplus' of white ones, it's just that less people want one.

If there are 100 white iPhones and 100 black iPhones, with 60 people wanting white ones, and 200 people wanting black ones, the white orders are going to get processed a lot faster. Which is currently what's happening with AT&T.

Yep, that's what I did today at my AT&T store. Just went in (first customer this morning) and ordered my 8 GB iphone. Tried the status website, of course, it wasn't shown yet. But I will be obsessing for the next 20-40 days, LOL They say upto 20 days, but I don't believe that. I will patiently wait.

But I am excited that I did finally order the iPhone 3G. Looking forward to it!

To add: I guess when the iPhone does come in, they will ask me all the important info about what plan I want, I guess?
